So I'm tossing around here trying to figure out what to do inside this bubble. We are not a large corporation, maybe 20 guys, and we want to be able to really "live" in this wormhole, which means planning for a long stay.
We're in a C5, so we will have to live with the potential for capitals entering to bother with us. I know about controlling the mass of our wormhole entrances so that we can limit our exposure, but I'm also wondering how to fit POS and which towers to get.
I realise that you can't make any pos invincible, but what's the best setup? I'm vaguely familiar with death stars and **** stars, but I'm not familiar in a granular sense. I don't know how many ECM would need to be anchored, for example, and how many would need to be online. I've also heard that you should anchor tons of extra modules above and beyond what you have onlined so that you can keep bringing new ones online.
I'm also concerned about caps and marauders. Since they're not affected by ECM at all, how should we handle that? Obviously in that sense, a **** star seems like it would be pointless, but at the same time, a death star is unlikely to be able to kill them? I've been playing around with the numbers on fitting and it doesn't seem like you can have an adequate amount of guns.
Can someone help me out with this? If we decide to do this, I will be basically taking most of the resources I've accumulated in my eve life and rolling the dice on something I really want to do, but am not totally sure of how to do, method wise.
Any help would be massively appreciated. |

Welcome to wspace. The first thing to realize is your tower will not keep you safe, it merely increases the amount of effort required to displace you. Of course you want some neuts, points and guns but your primary defense is effort required to displace you being more than the desire.
Give fights, avoid smack talk and never allow the situation to become one where someone else greatly hates you. Far better than a tower is simply having pilots that have fighting ships and experience using them.
Also poverty is a pretty good defense. Avoid being perceived as having excessive wealth and goods laying about. For example if your tower has three labs and 7 CHAs some might imagine that you have a ton of blueprints and goods. While the tower might be empty or filled with rocks that wont matter because that is not how it is perceived and someone could hit the pinata hoping for candy. |

In a c5 the only real defence you have is the RF timer and keeping your POS fueled. And do a large tower. Neuts, guns and ecm will keep your tower from being stront checked too often or hit by opportunistic small gangs. 2 neuts. 5 of each ecm and fill up with medium guns on remaining pg will suffice. and 2 webs and disruptors. Shield hardeners for at least 43% resist. Amarr towers give you the most online defense mods.

Here's the commie renters' answer to not get stront checked. It works really well. I don't think anyone's messed with them since they adopted it.

POS defenses in cap capable holes are largely decorative. You want enough neuts to be annoying to a single dread and enough ECM to be annoying to subcap logi, rest is purely decorative.

Aim fora 70% resist accross the board with a sprinkle of ecm and neuts and I can assure you that you'll deter 90% of the groups out there from bashing your tower

im not still living in c5 w space because my pos is so defended nobody can kill it. nor is it because i am so strong that i can defend anything thrown at me. most of the people in this forum can easily evict me.
i am still living in w space because im allowed to live there, mostly because i fight almost anyone. and because i fight, people like me and because people like me, the dont evict me. this is much more important to understand than how to defend ur pos. provide fights to people (even ones that you will lose) and aint nobody got a problem with you.
and if someone IS trying to evict you, you have hopefully made enough friends through good fights that they will be happy to help you defend your home. w-space is not about world domination or defending your turf or any stupid nullsec bullcrap. its supposed to be about good fights.
all idealism aside...
make sure u have 3-4 neuts (for dreads) sansha neuts are really really worth it points and scrams (obviosuly) bunch of webs (so bombers cant speed tank your tower), faction webs are really good here but not required. have 7-8 hardeners cover it in guns. make sure u got small and medium guns.
and the pos gunning skill works WONDERS.
but in general if someone wants to RF ur pos..... they're guna do it. get ur dudes logged in for the RF timers. thats when it really matters.
however if u can neut out a dread and kill it before u get RF'd thats a really really really really good thing. seeing how u have home-field advantage and just popped one of their limited supply caps. |

That min tower looks beast. Just add like 10 more nuets & 20 large arty{various dmg} guns, offline. Some people love to shoot the modules.
Have ur frat bro's in nullified ships, pos gunning at least IV, teamspeak & ALPHA those plebs for their foolishness. |

A few random POS tips:
* POS webs are insanely good, faction POS webs are downright silly (something like 97% slow on a Domination stasis webification battery?)
* Missiles and blasters are terrible due to insurmountable range, DPS, and/or fitting issues.
* ECM is great, but without guns your tower is a target for drones.
* Most electronic warfare batteries are measured from the individual battery, while most gun ranges/tracking are measured from the control tower.
* Laser batteries do degrade T1 frequency crystals, albeit slowly. It's still slightly less volume to haul than other ammo types, but ignore anybody who says they'll fire forever.

It's impossible to get even close uniform 70% resists - the in-game display is bugged and not counting the very real stacking penalty.

What I'm hearing is that guns don't turn off in reinforce, while missiles do.
So even if I had a DG tower, guns would be the better choice? |

not really.
Usually POS Defense outside of the FF is shot into "incapacitated" status as well either before POS is set into RF mode or afterwards. If they are not brought into incapacitated mode, they are not noticed as a threat and even in that case it would not make a difference. ;) |

The CPU issue isn't the main reason why, its cause they have vastly less dps than everything else. |
