It asks me to run a pre-release version of the launcher. I click ok and then it crashes. Is there a way to fix this? |

this^^
make the shortcut from the repair tool inside the test server directory of course..
worked for me like a charm, had some issues with the launcher crashing before but now its fine. Also, does anybody have a solution for mac users with the exact same problem?

I've been having similar issues, (though not apparently exactly the same one), the launcher for Singularity doesn't let me play/adjust the location of the SharedCache folder. I wrote in detail about it in the DoD thread over in the information portal: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=5537572#post5537572 (the linked post and the next one).

Not quite correct. The repair fails with that format as it still points to Tranquility in the repair dialogue.
The format (for windows at least) should be:
/server:Singularity Append that to the end of the target line and you should be good for the shortcut to the repair tool.
The repair is still running for this so I'll update results later. |

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Singularity claims it's /server:Singularity for eve.exe (and for exefile.exe apparently), but --server=sisi for repair.exe (and I checked, that wiki article has been updated this week by CCP Habakuk, although I didn't check which parts). And my Singularity install changed from an incompatible release (version) to a working one thanks to the repair, and I'm fairly certain I didn't do any other changes other than the repair.exe --server=sisi in between those attempts.
But yes, apprarently the repair report does have "server: Tranquility" even with --server=sisi, but since that's under "Build folder info" I'm assuming it's just reading start.ini... I could be wrong though.
Tested using repair.exe /server:Singularity also shows server:Tranquility on that same line. BUT using that command it also started a 7GB download for the full cache. So I just NOPEd and canceled that repair tool run attempt. |

Ah, had not even gotten to the Wiki yet so I did not see that officially is should be --server=sisi for the repair tool. Which I had tried using, but had failed.
Also, Codename and branch are where I saw it say Tranquility (server seemed consistent as Tranquility) when using --server:sisi versus codename and branch showing CLAUDETTE when using /server:singularity.
I don't mind the download so much.
Now, I just tried it on my main machine (was working this on my laptop) and the --server=sisi appears to have worked fine (still got the pre-release launcher blurb but this time OK did not result in a crash). The main difference between my laptop and main machine was that I had completely deleted the old SiSi folder and copied the current EVE folder to a new one. I find I can log into the client on my main machine but the play button is greyed out and the update bar shows 100%. Not sure what is going on there yet till I can compare the results with my laptop. |

Ok, that was interesting. So on my main machine, where I had started with a new copy of the current EVE client for SiSi the --server=sisi applied to the repair tool worked just fine.
For the laptop, where --server=sisi had been applied to the repair tool, it did not work. The laptop still had the last version of sisi. After trying it with /server:Singularity it did the whole download but again failed to launch correctly - crashed after clicking OK for the pre-release pop-up. However, when I adjusted shortcut to the repair tool back to --server=sisi the repair tool ran fine and did not crash.
For both machines the client is ready and will launch.
Curious as to why the repair tool failed with the prior sisi image versus simply updating a copy of TQ. |

The thing is, I *do* mind the download because I specifically wanted to test the actual DoD functionality... especially as no client or launcher has ever managed to ask me if I want to prime the cache, so I don't get to test that way of installing the shared cache folder. If I just download the 7GB and install from that, that's exactly identical to the current full install, and I'm not testing anything.
I didn't have a Singularity folder before trying to install one these past couple of days, so I can't help you with why that worked or didn't work. Sounds like maybe your laptops older version of Sisi might have a different (older) version of the repair tool, which uses /server:Singularity instead of --server=sisi for the repair tool as well. Then when you ran the (old?) repair tool it downloaded a full install of the game , including a new repair tool, but either it downloaded an old version of the Singularity client (or even the TQ client), which was incompatible with the current Singularity server version, and crashed. But then you ran the new repair tool, and it worked and repaired the client to the current Singularity version too? That's my hypothesis at least.
I think my --server=sisi repair tool always showed CLAUDETTE as the branch. Not completely sure about that though, wasn't paying much attention to it.
What's weird for me is that (at least almost) everyone else who's having problems with the test server launcher mentions the warning popup they get about a pre-release launcher, but I never got that in all my attempts. I think later today I'll be trying fresh installs probably both from the installer download they provided for the Duality DoD test in the mid-December dev blog, and from a fresh copy of the TQ folder, to see which steps exactly are necessary for me to get everything to work. Logically/Ideally/Hopefully it would just be sisi-repair + exefile with /server:Singularity. At this point I'm not really hopeful that the launcher will magically start working for me, which is sad because it's basically stopping me from staying on Singularity for longer than some minutes (my C drive would fill up). |

I tried out the new DoD for SISI client. Set a custom location as defined in the post
http://community.eveonline.com/news/news-channels/eve-online-news/testing-eve-online-download-on-demand-your-first-steps/
SISI client went about extracting the resource cache to this location.
However on starting TQ client, I get the same msg about running a pre-alpha version of the launcher, and a 7.44GB download starts.
I thought the DoD was only meant to affect the SISI launcher, and now i have to re-download eve all over again?
Did i miss something?

so while the eve repair tool was downloading the 7.44GB patch, i reopened the TQ launcher and it had a 75MB patch.. this quickly loaded and the game opened. So I canceled the repair tool download..
Now all my game settings are reset. UI, everything.
So far, I'd say this DoD is a fail.

Annexe: I answered you in the dev blog thread with more advice. However, here I will say that you didn't say at all what exactly you did to create/update a Singularity install before you "Set a custom location as defined in the post ", and that's very important for what happened to your install.
DoD is only meant to affect the Singularity (and Duality) launcher and client, yes. So far, many people have had issues with the new Singularity DoD launcher version and some with the game client/gameplay with DoD running, but I don't think anyone else has had their TQ install ruined by it, so it sounds like you screwed up somewhere.

I've had SISI installed for a long time, correctly as stated for installing. Copy EVE file to new directory, change shortcut target etc. Never had a problem with SISI and TQ. I have TQ on my SSD and SISI on an internal HD
I opened the SISI launcher and was given the DOD option. I clicked NO, went to settings and changed cache location. Restarted launcher, clicked YES and everything seemed to work fine.
Opened up TQ, and was suddenly given the NEW launcher.
Please tell me where I went wrong, or how I can fix it without downloading full 7GB. Can I pull files from the SISI folder?

When I open the SISI folder and open the Shortcut with the /server:Singularity it opens the new launcher, but when I open the .exe file also in the SISI folder it is opening TQ with normal launcher and no DL.
It seems to have pulled all the cache files from SSD TQ to HD SISI. TQ folder is only 290MB. Can i copy the cache that was created with new launcher back into TQ directory? If so, what is the correct destination for launcher to read them?

Ok, I believe i found where i messed up.. the shortcut for SISI was linked to my SSD TQ .exe. I did not make a shortcut for the NEW SISI folder .exe when changing the target location.
But is there still a way to copy needed files back onto SSD TQ?

Thanks for the clarification on what you did... and hey, at least you discovered your mistake, even if it doesn't really help you fix your install.
AFAIK when it primes the cache, it changes the organisation of the files (splits the TQ .stuff files into a larger amount of smaller files), so you can't just copy them back, because they don't exist on your computer in the original form anymore. I have 115 .stuff files in my TQ folder, the ResCache folder had 256 *folders* before I deleted it (to keep some space available on C:). |

Deleted launcher from TQ folder, along with any patch files. Ran repair tool, left comp to download 7.4GB
Feels like a waste of download data (damn aussie ISP's) but at least Eve is back up.
Cheers for help :)

So it seems trying all the various options the day before yesterday have deleted my TQ client's settings too, after all. Probably because I did try using the Duality installer.
Eh, I'm not that annoyed by that though. Just a warning: using the test server installer will most likely lose you your UI settings! So don't do it, at least not without a backup of the settings folder.
Aritemech Crendraven wrote:I do have the same problem here / launcher bug / did a repair with --server=sisi / nothing change / deleted cach / nothing change / downloaded game, recreated shortcut / nothing change...
If you've got space for 13GB or so of cache on your C drive, try making a shortcut of the exefile.exe (found in EVE\bin\) and modifying that shortcut's target line to have /server:Singularity, just like you did with the eve.exe shortcut. That gets you past the launcher and directly into the game (which the sisi-repair should've fixed to work with Singularity already). You'll be running a 'true' DoD though, can't prime the cache with your existing .stuff files if you do that. |
