Do you prefer drones or hybrid guns?

Like this all so far just one to add.
For lvl 1 and lvl 2 the Federation Navy Comet can be a very good alternative. Excellent blaster platform and 3 lights ot help out. |

any of the galente drone boats will do well. Vexor/Myrm with light drones will wreck L1-2 missions, the myrm will be able to do level 3 missions too. |

Newbee with low skill will most profit with Gnosis, IMHO. There is no sense to discuss L1 missions cause you are not fighting with low standings - you just grind mission loop. So L1 missions will be gone as soon as you make couple of them and have at least basic social skills. L2 missions - passively tanked shield Gnosis, rail guns and 5 small + 5 medium drones. L3 missions - active armor tank, missiles and 2 sentry drones + 5 small drones. You have to carefully read what you will find in eve-survival.org about the specific missions and choose drones and missiles accordingly. Almost each mission requires the specific damage type applyed to NPC and different kind of missiles / drones allow you to adjust the damage type. You will be struggling against drones with hybrid turrets, for example, since drones are vulnerable for EM but hybrid ammo does kinetic / thermal damage. So for drones you take curators + mojlir missiles. Do not forget to fit medium micro jump drive.
Keep skilling for drone boat and you will get to cheap and effective L4 mission ruinner - Dominix. |

For L2 missions: [Gnosis, Cheap low sp PVE Gnosis for L2] Damage Control II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Experimental 10MN Afterburner I Large Azeotropic Ward Salubrity I F-12 Nonlinear Tracking Processor, Optimal Range Script Medium Azeotropic Ward Salubrity I Limited Kinetic Deflection Field I Limited Thermic Dissipation Field I
250mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M 250mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M 250mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M 250mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M 250mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M 'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher, Mjolnir Heavy Missile
Medium Processor Overclocking Unit I Medium Nanobot Accelerator I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Hammerhead II x5 Hobgoblin II x5
Use meta 4 modules, where you do not have skills for T2. Shield hardeners are mission specific. Do not be surprised by rigs - they will be needed later, when you use same ship for L3 missions: [Gnosis, Low sp PVE Gnosis L3] Damage Control II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Medium Armor Repairer II Shadow Serpentis Armor Thermic Hardener Shadow Serpentis Armor Kinetic Hardener
Medium Micro Jump Drive 10MN Microwarpdrive II Omnidirectional Tracking Link II, Optimal Range Script Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron
'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher, Scourge Heavy Missile 'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher, Scourge Heavy Missile 'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher, Scourge Heavy Missile 'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher, Scourge Heavy Missile Drone Link Augmentor II 'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher, Scourge Heavy Missile
Medium Processor Overclocking Unit I Medium Nanobot Accelerator I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Hobgoblin II x5 Garde II x2
Since you are not going to use missile launchers on Dominix, there is no point to add ballistic control or other damage modifiers for missiles here. Only target painter. Serpentis armor hardeners are cheap and allow you to save much CPU. Hardeners, missiles and drones are mission specific. This example is against Serpentis. If you can fit everything and has enough CPU - replace Medium Processor Overclocking Unit I by some other meaningfull rig.
I never tried the Gnosis so I cant comment on the recommendation. But why do you recommend that he train Hybrids for level 2 missions and then have him train missiles for level 3 missions? Isnt that alot of wasted time spent in training skills? Surely it would be better to use Hybrids for the level 3 boat as well?

I do not recommend to train hybrids or missiles. He is a gallente, his main focus can (should IMHO) be drones. Cause it is the way gallente pilots adjust their damage type. Missiles in Gnosis get bonuses from hull just the same way as any other damage module. Except drones - they get bonus twice as big. To train missiles to some basic degree does not take much time and I guess he already got some hybrid weapon skills. Main idea is that with missile launchers newbee can adjust the damage type. And L3 missions do require to pay attention to produced damage. Not as much as L4 but still... If OP will stay with security missions as main fun / ISK pve income, he will end sooner or later in Rattlesnake and it is a missile boat any way.

Here is a t1 myrm fitting for lv3. The nano/reactive combo can easily replaced by mission specific hardeners, but honestly in 90% of the times your shield wont go below 50% anyway. Fightmechanic is the same as later with the domi/rattle, warp in pocket mjd out if you want, shoot stuff while drinking coffee and use afterburner for the cases you need to move. If you have a lot of money use geckos + sentries.
[Myrmidon, Myrmidon lv3d t1]
Medium Armor Repairer I Omnidirectional Tracking Enhancer I Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane I Reactive Armor Hardener Drone Damage Amplifier I Drone Damage Amplifier I
Medium Micro Jump Drive 10MN Afterburner I Cap Recharger I Omnidirectional Tracking Link I, Optimal Range Script Sensor Booster I, Targeting Range Script
200mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M 200mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M 200mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge M Drone Link Augmentor I Drone Link Augmentor II
Medium Anti-Explosive Pump I Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Hobgoblin I x5 Caldari Navy Warden x4
The guns are mainly for show. Use missionspecific faction drones (and dont forget them like I do, they are the only thing worth a bit). |

Don't know how good this is compared to others but I like it for lvl 2 and the occasional level 3. I have the skills for the all T2 fit if you do not simply replace these with the T1 counterparts.
Drone Link Augmentor II 3x 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II
2x Cap Recharger II Tracking Computer II Omnidirectional Tracking Link II
Damage Control II Medium Armor Repairer II Gyrostabilizer II 2x Adaptive Nano Plating II
Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump II Medium Nanobot Accelerator II Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
5x Hobgoblin II 5x Hammerhead II
Possible changes and my thoughts. I use auto canons since you primary dps is your drones and the auto canons do not require any cap. You can replace these with rails or blasters if you prefer them, or you do not have skills for the auto canons.
Tracking computer helps the guns, the omnidirectional helps the drones. one of each or 2 of either one is a personal preference thing.
The gyro stab helps the guns and can be replaced with a third hardener if you want or need it. I fly with the adaptive nano plates, for lower skills switching to mission specifi hardeners would be a better option.
Nano pump and nanobot accelerator both help with the armor rep while the Cap control helsp with your cap recharge rate.
Hammers and hobs are probably the best cboice for all around drones for a low skills pilot, but using damage specific would be better if you have the skills.
Here are a pair of Myrmidon fittings I have used in the past. Don't fly either of these much since I skilled for the Ishtar years ago. Bth of these have 2 empty low slots that you fit mission specific hardeners iinto. With these there are no ship bonuses to guns so I use auto canons to help with cap and just like the Vexor the drones are the primary damage dealers. Replace the auto canons with whatever weapons you prefer. These are all T2 fits so adjust to T1 if needed.
Drones loads are subject to personal preferences and mission requirements.
Single rep 4x 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II Drone Link Augmentor II
3x Cap Recharger II Tracking Computer II Omnidirectional Tracking Link II

5x Hobgoblin II 4x Bouncer II 5x Hammerhead II 2x Medium Armor Maintenance Bot II 1x Light Armor Maintenance Bot II
Twin rep fit [Myrmidon, Twin Rep Mission]
