Someone suggested this in this thread earlier; I felt that it really does deserve its own post.
Leonard Nimoy is a man whose name is entangled in Science Fiction, and it seems quite logical that EVE Online could provide a tribute to him.
Naming the Caldari Tactical Destroyer after him would not only be an amazing tribute (or tributes, as many perople will fly them!) would be a really meaningful nod to him; I doubt a name could cause much trouble, and in addition it really is a very nice name!
I just wanted to throw this out here.

I'm fine with a monument or a limited edition ship maybe one that can be modeled to reflect the man himself rather than just slapping his name on the next new ship

Limited-edition ships are hangar queens though. You'll never see one. Monuments have a tendancy to go unnoticed or be forgotten.
If you put a name on a production ship, however, it will suffer neither of these fates. Hardly 'slapping it on', especially when this is exactly the sort of thing the US Navy does with their own ships. |

Would better suit the Gallente T3 Destroyer. Caldari, by their character, don't have much connection to glamor and chic, whereas the Gallente adore and admire their stars and VIPs.

When Harrison Ford dies do we name a ship after him? And so on and so on?

Implying "Svipul" has a nice ring to it... And it's mainly because of the immense impact Nimoy's character had on sci-fi |

The T3 Caldari Destroyer should be called something like Wryneck (little woodpecker). If we start naming ships after influential sci-fi people surely Roddenberry would be higher up the list than Nimoy? He did create spock after all. |

yup I agree since lots of the caldari ships have bird names... I guess they can go Australasian once more (after the Moa) and use a deadly bird's name like the Cassowary from Australia. If you would like it to be more like a hunter, then use Egret... or if it will have those long range missiles, use Kite or Harrier...Jeager or Skua, Nightjar or Swiftlet. There are many names out there but whatever it will be, we'll like it |

I can't really speak for what Leonard Nimoy would want. But I suspect that he would prefer it be something that reflected positively upon the character he portrayed. Something centered around science, exploration or possibly some sort of logistics ship.
I'd say let the Caldari have another bird named ship.
Leonard Nimoy can have something unique. |

personally I find the actual hull names irrelevant, in my old WH corp someone accidently called the bantom a bongham... that was what that ship was knows as corp wide.

Historically speaking Caldari ships have been named after animals. It wouldn't be make since to the lore of Eve to name the ship "Nimoy"
I understand his contribution to sci-fi, however I can't say I would directly link him to Eve, not to the degree that would justify a ship being named after him. We don't have a ship named after Yuri Gagarin, the first person that made it into outer space. We also don't have any ship named after the Sputnik, which was the first satellite in space. Long story short, it isn't for CCP to recognize these individuals/feats of human engineering. The people and events of RL, deserve the recognition of the RL community. Let it being a monument, a video biographic or what not. |

Gonna say this. We go down this route let's have some ships name after Doctor's as they pass. Doctor who predates Star Trek and has run as an intact series (no spin offs like ds9, tng, most of which arguably better than Star Trek the og series) for much longer. That rates a ship name or 2 imo if going down this route. But eve isn't dr who either lol. |

really rather than the writers that created them or you know... actual scientist that devote their lives to making scfi real
good god the list of people we need to commemorate is huge we gunna need more ships
but to be serious no he doesn't need a ship named after him or anything really at least not in a game he had no interest or investment in.

I would rather see some serial number on SoE ships including name of the Trek character rather than real life last name. Some sort of S50cK-NCC-1777. Fleet of Nimoys sounds dumb.
