I have just come back from being inactive for over 500 days. And I never really played much before that. This character has around 400 mil for some reason, and I have a only a Badger and a Cruiser in my hangar. I'm also skilled for pretty much just industry with around 1mil SP. I know I won't be able to fly my Cruiser regularly because I'm not skilled properly. So basically I have no idea what's going on on this character and I was wondering if it would be easier to just create a new character and start over skilling combat (which I want to do much more than industrial stuff). I'm also a Caldari but I would really like to fly Amarr or Gallete ships, so I'd also have to skill that. |

Since it sounds like you'd be starting from scratch one way or another, might as well just keep the current toon and refocus your skill queue.

Right, but I just have no idea where to start. I don't even own a frigate! |

As you're basically in the same position as a newbie with reference to skills and direction I suggest taking a look at Tippias newbie skill plan 2.0 for some general idea of basic skills that will stand you in good stead whatever you choose to do.

Well, buying a frigate would probably be a good start then
Hooking up with a newbie friendly pvp corp (i.e Red vs Blue in highsec, Stay Frosty in lowsec, or Brave Newbies in nullsec) would help point you in the right direction. Meanwhile, read this article and see if you can use the fit in it. If you can, fit it up and start causing explosions! If not, it's a good basic fit to train towards and use while you skill up some support skills.
EDIT: Also +1 for Tippia's skill plan

There is no reason to ever start a new character. No skill points work against you and you can fly any ship regardless of your race. Also new characters are all born with almost no skill points and they are all pretty close to the same anyway.
If you were to create two new characters let's say one caldari and one Amarr and you wanted to make the caldari one have all the skils that the amarr one did i.e. amarr frigate and small energy turrets those skill could be trained in about 4 hours. It would probably take you 4 hours to go through the character creation and get all of your stuff moved over. |

With the exception of changing your identity, this is true. If you're less than a month old and have a stupid name or something, you should restart and pick something that you'll be happy with for years(potentially.)
However, if you just have "wasted" skillpoints, restarting won't help at all. It's better to have semi-useless skills that you aren't currently using than to not have them at all. |

Umm why would you want to get rid of the enormous 1m skill points? Seriously, just change your skill plan to whatever you want to do. There is absolutely no need to restart. And you might even want those skills in the future.
