Looking to pick up a HIC but really unsure which one, I torn between the broadsword and shield tank, as passive regen will add some extra ehp. And has more resists than a onynx. Or go for a arm or tanked devoted, which are your preferred hics n why, thanks for the input in advance :)

Passive regen is inconsequential for a HIC. You will be going for a massive buffer tank. The Minmitar T2 resists are very beneficial for a omni damage buffer tank. That said, you will be able to get great tanks out of all of them and you should choose your HIC based upon the fleet you'll be in. |

There is some benefit for the passive shield regen in small gang fights, but it shouldn't really be your primary tank. Depending on the makeup of your gang, go for buffer or active fits instead.
In larger fleets (especially in nullsec or WH space), you will depend almost entirely on maxing out your buffer. The HICs in your fleet will take turns bubbling (or pointing the primary in focused mode) for a cycle, then getting remote-repped.
Broadsword and Devoter are both nice because their shield and armor resists (respectively) leave no significant holes. The Devoter is also really nice for small gang work now that it has a small drone bay.

It depends on your skills and fleet composition. The broadsword is faster than the two armor HICs because well...it's shield. The Onyx is similar.
However, the Phobos/Devoter are very good armor HICs. Usually it comes down to what Cruiser skills you have to V and whether your fleet is a shield or armor doctrine. |

Thanks for the replys, we haven't made a firm choice on fleet comp yet but I have all cruisers to 5, so no there, my preferences really are the broadsword and the devoted, maybe I should get both lol. But the drone bay will be a bonus for the small gang

This is not true at all and is dependent on what you are doing with the HIC
if you are out in null bubbling for large fleets then yes
however if you are in a WH where fleet sizes are much smaller the 1.3kEHP/s of the onyx is amazingly powerful
overall i would say go with the minmatar one
if you do a lot of WH stuff then go onyx where passive regen is king on a HIC(minm gets good passive as well) and then it's use of RLML will give your fleet a major advantage in frig shattered holes

Devoter for armor and Broadsword for shield. You'll need every bit of ehp you can get. If you're sick of tidi, and want to just be done with it and take the pod express home more quickly, fly the Phobos instead. |
