A new way to get new players to log off and take the opportunity of trying a different game....
Seriously, do CCP want new players in Eve? or are they trying to limit the number to something managable, maybe it's a survival of the fittest thing, only those new players who can get help in Rookie Chat make it through and sub their trials.
Eve is difficult, I get that, I have been playing a long time, but 'Opportunities' is like teaching someone to swim by chucking them off a 10 metre board into a deep swimming pool that has great whites swimming in it. At least provide some explanations, Aura did that to about 50% of the required info, 'opportunities' provides about 10%.
I guess CCP will be able to look at the stats for new player registrations and compare the subbintgof new account of 'opportunities' players vs 'Aura tutorial' players and see what's happening. My guess is that this won't look great.
Thank goodness the Career tutorials have been left in although I suppose as part of the new NPE, these will be trashed too :(
After Scylla will new players spawn in null to give them the full butthurt experience???
I look forward to not receiving any reply from either ISD or CCP here or in rookie chat. |

The worst part is new players can't post in the official feedback thread. |

Hello,
Opportunities are still in development as far as I can tell (I'm not a dev so can't speak on the subject 100%) and CCP is still taking feedback. If you want to really provide feedback your best bet is to file a support ticket and like you have already done post here. The developers do read the forums so productive feedback is already a good thing to do :)
As Gregor Parud you can also post here you're suggestions or comments as well: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1936565#post1936565

They are like "achievements" in normal video games. You check a box for shooting an NPC, another box for jumping into lowsec, another one for selling something on the market. If OP had read the dev blog about them, she'd realize that "throwing them into the deep end" is the whole point. New players find the tutorials boring and don't like reading the walls of text. This is an experiment to see if they'd learn better with minimal explanation and just a list of stuff to attempt to figure out.
I am a scientist, and I'm all for experiments. What the heck is OP's problem? It's not like they're going to delete the existing tutorials when they introduce this.
It's got me thinking, even if they never implement it, I'd like to introduce an out-of-game "achievements" system (maybe just a pencil and paper thing, although a web app would be cooler) for things the game can't measure automatically:
Check the things you have done: [ ] I scammed somebody by passing off a T1 ship as a faction ship [ ] I ransomed a ship for an out-of-game reward (e.g. pizza delivery) [ ] I hunted down and killed the first player who ever killed me in PVP
I can think of a hundred of these... |

First of all, new players should not and I repeat, NOT be thrown into the deep end. All that will do is make the majority of them quit Eve even faster. Also most new players I've talked to liked the Aura Tutorial. As for the 'Walls Of Text', there's a lot of important info to be learned right at the start of this game. CCP can easily reduce the amount of text contained in each segment by just adding a couple more mission chapters to each Career Agents mission series.
Now about this 'Achievement' aspect, that sounds more like something that should be offered to older players who are getting bored of this game, not to new players who are still trying to learn how to operate their ship.

As a concept it's great but the execution is poor. It's riddled with issues, mistakes and situations which are impossible for a newbie to complete and it's very short resulting in newbies who actually managed to ,somehow, complete it to lack a whole bunch of information, freebee skills and whatnot. Skills the career tutorials expect you to have. |

Especially in this game the major question should be if it's too much text or too small text. I think it's the last although it has gotten better since i bought a 26" display. On my old 20" I was lucky when I managed to read something without burning a hole in the screen with my cigarrette.

Can I apply my idea for an opportunity?
Create a forum thread that will be locksd due to violating the ranting rule.
OP can already tick that one off then.

A rant is a post that is often filled with angry and counterproductive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and is helpful in development of the game and community. Rants are disruptive, and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise and clear manner while avoiding going off on rambling tangents. As already suggested by ISD Athechu, please use the linked thread to post your feedback.
