Hello,
So I am on my 2-3 day of my trial and I am currently working through my second Career Agent and have made 2m Isk! Woohoo.
While doing some research I think I want to start out with missions to begin with. I will be sticking with Minmatar ships to begin with. What ships/weapons/skills should I be looking at for doing missions?
Also I would like to be doing mining in my downtime with my venture. I am currently mining either Veldspar or Scordite. Is there something better for me to mine in my downtime that would increase my influx of isk?
Thank you for any help you may provide. Rufus Sprague |

If you browse through these new player threads you'll find these questions answered repeatedly.
I quick run down however is that minning does not make as much isk as combat does. Most ores are pretty close to each other in isk / m3 value making more money in minning is much more influenced by boosts than by type of ore. Also as you get into exhumers by the size of the asteroid.
As far as mission running basically level 1s are intended to be run in a frigate. Level 2s in a cruiser, level 3's in a battlecruiser and level 4's in a battleship. These are not rules that are written in stone but guidelines. |

Minmatar has 2 viable play styles for PVE. Both work, it's personal preference. However, the Marauder (pretty much Minnie end game for missions in high sec) is turret based.
1) Turrets with support from drones, this is where you mostly train up gunnery and train up drones as an extra 2) missiles with lots of drones, some of Minnie's missile ships are actually really good, especially the BS, and you'll train up drones quite a bit for extra dps.
So once you chose either (or both) then you'll start to focus on the rest. Tanking is mostly going to be shield based if you stay in Minmatar space and you'll always want support skills like engineering and navigation.
The most obvious route is projectile gunnery and support, engineering for fitting and capacitor, shield, drones, navigation.
If by down time you mean "while at work or semi-afk" then mining is pretty good and it scales well with having multiple accounts but once you get to lvl 4 missions make a lot more than solo mining. Also, every minute you spend on training mining means it'll take longer to train up combat so yes: you can do both but it's probably better to make a choice, for now at least. |

Small Projectile turrets to level 4 first, stick to Meta 4 weapons. Then some shield tanking skills, engineering skills and navigation skills. Once you get yourself in a destroyer (thrasher preferred if you ask me), get Projectile turrets to 5 and train small autocannon and small artillery specialization to at least 3.
Stick to L2 missions with that.
Once you are comfortable with the destroyer, start training Medium projectile turrets to 4, then Minmatar cruiser to 3 or 4. That will let you do L3 missions comfortably enough.
By that time, you should pretty much have an idea where you wanna go with this game and you are probably near having to sub or have already subbed.
Mining is pretty much the easiest way to make isk in the beginning (as in easy, not more profitable), but a very boring one at that (personal opinion of course).
Also, finding a good corp will help you a lot.

Oh I almost forgot get friends. Eve is a true MMO and you really need friends so either find a player corp that suits your style or find some friends to hang out with and do stuff with. Early on you really almost have to have real time access to vets to be able to ask questions. If you try to solo eve you most likely won't make it past the trial.
As far as what ships I think that the breacher is an excellent mission running frigate, possibly the best tech 1 mission running frig in game but that is debatable I'm sure. As far as minmatar cruisers both the rupture and the stabber should be fine for mission however I have to confess I've not really flown cruisers much since the tiericide. As far as Battlecruisers go both the Hurricane and the cyclone will run level 3s fine. The cane will be more DPSy and the Cyclone will be more tanky.
The breacher and Cylone are missile boats where as the cane and the 2 cruisers are turret based. Eventually you'll train everything but at some point early one you'll likely have to choose between turret and launchers for a short term focus. If you decide to go the turret route you'll want to fly the rifter instead of the breacher.
Once you get comfortable with the basics of ship piloting and ship fitting you'll want read up on gunnery. It's important to understand gunnery even if you don't fly gun ships as how you fly your ship effects how your opponent applies dps to you.
Also it's good to note that you can read what ever you want but you really can only truly learn from experience so at some point you have to just try stuff. That being said one of the best things that you can do early on is just try out different stuff. Try different ships try different fits try different tactics. Just play around with stuff and don't be afraid to blow up from time to time.
Google can help you learn about most stuff in this game as there is a vast wealth of player knowledge out there. Eve Uni wiki is a good place to go as a starting point for most things and this includes when wanting to learn how to fit a ship. |

Also, finding a good corp will help you a lot. this is pretty good advice here but I want to point out that the gunnery support skills or generic gunnery skills as I call them are probably more important than the racial gunnery skills when considering what to level up first. Minmatar's projectile weapons use no capacitor so controlled bursts won't be of any use to you but motion prediction, sharpshooter and trajectory analysis are very important and should not be forgotten about and maybe even prioritized over the racial skills but certainly get them to 4 before training the racial skill to 5. |

Tanking skills vs gunnery support skills.... I dunno I'm divided a little bit on the order of importance, but you're right, those should be trained too.

Here's a good skill plan for a newbie. It's a plan for your first month and a half or so, designed to get you to an 'ok' level in a variety of ship classes and roles. Useful for PVE and PVP. Don't feel the need to stick to it exactly, but it's a good place to start, stage one (first 18 days) is particularly good.
Try a bunch of stuff out, and specialize from there.
Oh and do read the introduction, it's a good breakdown of how the skill system works. For even more info check out this thread: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=406047&find=unread

Any tips on finding a good corp in my part of space that would be helpful for a new guy and roll with the kind of things I am doing? |

each item has a meta level listed in info. Well meta 0 items might not but everything else does. The meta level basically means how good it is. The higher the meta the better the module generally speaking. This is not 100% true but it is generally true. Meta 5 is tech 2. Anything higher than tech 2 is going to be expensive usually. Tech 2 items usually have higher fitting requirements so they have good "stats" but require you to have more skill points in fitting skills (stuff that increase CPU or powergrid or decreases your use of CPU or powergrid). There for meta 4 is usually the best of the cheaper, easier to fit modules. I have not read it but here is the eve uni wiki page on it. Also if you go to show info then the Variations tab then click compare at the bottom you will be able to select and compare various stats.
Shields are shields they are not any different on a drone ship than they are on a turret based ship. I recommend that you browse through the market's skillbook section especially under shields in this case but also just in general. You will want to get familiar with what skills are available and which you have yet to train etc... This also works for modules and ship, the browsing that is, I call it window shopping. You are going to want to aim for T2 mods pretty soonish with tank so if you are active tanking that would be hardeners and boosters. If you go passive shield you'll want to focus on skills that get you T2 mods for that as well as anything that increases shield amount or regen rate as you passive regen is a percentage or you total at a given interval so anything that increases either will help.
As far as engineering skills you will need skills that increase: CPU amount, Powergrid amount, capacitor amount, capacitor regen, as well as weapon upgrades and advanced weapon upgrades.
I intentionally gave you guide lines on what skills to look for and not just told you which skills because if you are forced to look the skill up yourself you will learn more about them then if I just give you the names.
