Another question for all the helpful souls (with many, many thanks in advance as it is already the third time I'm asking for help!)
I'm looking for a decent skill plan for new pilots. The idea will be to get T2-level ready on frigate/destroyers while starting to learn cruisers. I looked around and saw several plans, but they all look, well, a little confusing. Also, I have downloaded Evemon. If I understand it correctly, it simply lists out the skills you should train, right? It doesn't automatically put those skills in the queue (or is there a way of doing that too?)
Currently I have 32 skills with 255K SPs.
Armor: Hull Upgrades (3), Mechanics (3), Repair Systems (1) Drones (1) Propulsion jamming (1) Engineering: Capacitor Emissions (1), CPU Management (3), Power Grid Man (4), Energy Grip Upgr (3), Weapon Upgrade (2) Gunnery: Gunnery (4), Motion Prediction (2), Rapid Firing (training to 2), Sharp shooter (2), Small Energy Turret (3) Afterburner (1), Navigation (3) Cybernetics (1), Industry (2) Mining (2), Reprocessing (1) Survey (2), Astrometrics (1) Science (3) Shield Management (1) Social (3) Amarr Dest (3), Amarr Frigate (3), Amarr Indust (1), Mining Frig (2), Spaceship Command (3) Trade (1)
Ideally, I would like to train for Frigate/Destroyer level PvP in Faction Warfare (so get to T2 lasers, etc) and L3 missions as the first step (which will probably require a cruiser, I imagine? I'm currently struggling in a coercer through those missions). |

I don't believe EveMon can update your in-game queue. If it did, a lot of people might never log in! The best features IMHO are where you can put in a particular module or a particular ship and see what skills are needed before you can use it. Often you miss things like the need to train Evasive Maneuvering 5 before Interceptors 1, and so forth. |

Currently the only way to change the skillqueue is, log in yourself and change it.
Though CCP did make it a lot easier by changing it from a 24h queue to a 50 skill / 5 year queue.

Ah right. That said, evemon remains a big help figuring out what I need. Now, to put those skills into the queue. |

Yes eve mon is a very useful and helpful tool. Very very helpful.
As far as skills you'll want to make up a skill plan that gets you T2 weapons and T2 tank mods as well as support skills and of course the space ship command skills that are needed. A good way to figure this out is find a fit of a ship that you want to fly like maybe from the eve uni wiki site maybe by googling the name of the ship. Any way enter the ship and all the mods into a skill plan on eve mon or / and then go into EFT (Eve Fitting Tool) and import your character. Then adjust your character's skills to make that ship fit work including having the fitting room then export that character from EFT into the EveMon skill plan. Then reorganize the skills by quickest to train at least as best as can be done due to prereques needing to be trained first. |

I usually don't even bother with EVEMon for skill planning. I use EFT instead. Once you've picked a ship and created a fit you can import your character's API to see the fitting stats with your skills. Then if you right click on the fit you can see every single skill that affects the performance of the ship hull. Right clicking on a module (for example, a laser turret) will show you every single skill that affects that module (gunnery support skills, Amarr frigate, weapon upgrades, etc). You can even modify skills one by one to see the change in performance you get for training them.
I do use EVEMon still, but as more of a "oh darn, the alt's queue is almost empty" reminder since it can be easy to lose track when you are training long skills on several characters. It's also useful if you are making a long term plan and want to remap your attributes. It can calculate the optimum remap for your exact plan.

Thanks ergherhdfgh & Cara. Yes, I'm playing around with EFT too and aiming for those T2 set ups (my first two would be an executioner and a tormentor as I want to learn to fly them both). It will take some time to get to T2 levels though. I already managed it for Cap Recharger II on my coercer which I use for missioning, and I can already see the difference as I don't have to warp out every minute !

Lasers use a lot of capacitor so "Controlled Bursts" will be an important skill for you as an Amarr pilot, as well as the general capacitor skills. It's important to have good cap skills for PVP so you don't need to waste slots on modules like cap rechargers (though in most situations cap boosters are preferred for PVP because they give you a large immediate boost in cap). Also keep in mind that many viable fits for both PVE and PVP are not "cap stable". You don't have to leave everything running while fighting. Rather, pulse your armor repairer only when you need it, shut off your MWD if you don't need it to control range, etc.

Thanks again Cara!
I didn't know about the Controlled Bursts skill (I'll get it immediately). I've started to work on my cap skills in the skill queue (just subscribed so no longer limited to a 24h queue!!!).
I've already started paying attention to the armor repair module.
A follow up question: for PvE missions, is it better to use afterburner or Mwd? I have kept away from MwDs for the moment because I thought they light you up like a cruiser. But that shouldn't really matter in PvE, right? |
