Dear fellow Capsuleers.
My name is Utari Onzo and I am asking for assistance in finding a good friend of mine. This morning, I was checking on this Galnet site set up by Miss Lisa Ouyano to document her journey in to wormholes. Her first update seemed normal enough, and I had personally given her a connection system to enter in to the chain. However, the second update is more concerning. It is a binary code burst transmition and decoded tells us she's gotten herself into a lot of trouble.
Decoded Transcript wrote:There was an incident while entering the wormhole. As I passed through the wormhole began to collapse, as intend. . . but not as expected. The warp core was breached and I was forced to make an emergency landing on a planet. Sensors showed the nearest planet as terrestrial, but upon shortly after landing I discovered that was only partially true. To call it a landing is putting it lightly. I can only assume the ship survived because of the sheer density of it. From where I am now I can see a scar across the land of where I landed. I mentioned the readings were only partially accurate. Raging storms cover this planet, and the scar is quickly becoming a sizable lake. Recovering pieces of the ship in the mud and water are going to prove difficult. There were also casualties during landing. Three fourths of the crew perished. This sets me back by about 75 men. The science team is miraculously unharmed, aside a few broken arms. This adds another 25 able bodies, setting our crew at an acceptable 50. I am unsure what caused the comms systems to malfunction, but I am unable to receive though I think I can still send. There are likely many other errors I haven't even noticed yet. I guess this is going to take more than 1 day.
What I need is for capsuleers talented in communications to see if they can find a way of knowing where this message came from. We can already eliminate any wormhole systems known to not contain terrestial planets. Even if all we can work out is the originating k-space system, I'll atleast have something to go on as I can ask around my contacts in Anoikis if it might have been an exit in their own chains. Once I have a list of potential J-Systems I can begin rolling 13's static to find her.
Any and all useful information should be shared here. I thank you all in advance for your efforts.

From that message alone? No, of course.
I don't see anything on her Glanet site's recent entries to give clues as the class of hole she was exploring or it's J-sig. Galnet kill records don't note any possible vessel losses that correspond with the details in this or her last entry. You'll need another source of information, Mr Onzo or somehow manage to re-establish some form of contact with Miss Ouyano or her vessel's systems.
Wish I could help somehow but I'm no technician, nor is search and rescue what I do.
Good luck in anycase, sir.

The fact that she was even able to get a signal from Anoikis to New Eden is remarkable, if not suspect. However, just because I doubt the veracity of this signal does not mean it is not genuine. Still, there is no mention of a J-sig in her message and therefore there is no way of remotely knowing where to even start looking.
Ouyano made a mistake and she and her crew are dealing with its consequences. Best leave them to it - we have bigger problems here than recovering the lives of a reckless pilot and her crew from a system we can't even find. |

Why do you jump out of perfectly functional space ships?
Mr. Onzo, Ms. Dusette is correct. There are thousands of documented Anoikis. More information is needed to something other than just keeping an eye out for her.
Hopefully, at some point, it'll occur to her to crawl back into her pod and activate the self-destruct. And then, the burn-scan headers might provide a clue to her to go back and rescue her team.

There are various methods, but comms are generally quite stable to and from most systems in Anoikis. Only last night my sister was forced to confiscate one of my younger sibling's datapads after she caused a late night ruccas on the Galnet. Again.
So yessir, it's often of similar quality to transmissions through Empire. At least on Isogen 5's relay network.

I fear you might be right, but until any more news comes about I'm going off on what I have. Atleast awareness is being raised and if any new information comes to light, there might be a few more pilots who know about Lisa's plight who can assist.

I'll keep my eyes peeled in our chain, for what it's worth, and have the girls in Horizon do the same.
I'm assuming you've tried standard comms networks? I dunno, Mr Onzo, perhaps a comms specialist is your best hope. If someone can get a response with that J-sig from her you might stand a slim chance. Even better if you're willing to put a lot of money behind it. From her transmissions it's clear she cares for her crew, so I can understand a hesitancy to take the pod-express, so to speak, sir.

If every tritanium-built ship explodes violently in the atmosphere there's probably no Caldari Prime left after the Shigeru crash-landed onto it. And every time we turn on life support our ship explodes.
No, tritanium-derived compounds do not explode violently in the atmosphere, the same way magnesium chloride does not ignite in a bucket of water.

Tritanium is infact unstable in most atmospheres, the temperature of habitable atmospheres being the main concern.
The Shiigeru was already in pieces when it crashed into Caldari Prime's crust. Despite what could be confused for material breaking up on it's decent through the atmosphere, tritanium falling through a temperate atmosphere is akin to igniting a few tonnes of fireworks.

Tritanium is highly reactive with certain atmospheric elements. When exposed to oxygen and nitrogen at temperatures higher then -30 C, Tritanium undergoes extremely rapid oxidation, releasing large quantities of heat and transforming it into the much weaker materials tritanium oxide and tritanium nitride. These materials are brittle, and prone to cracking and shattering, which further exposes interior tritanium within a material to oxidation. However, the interior tritanium can also be preserved in some cases by the formation of a thin layer of tritanium nitride on the surface of the material.
That said, ships are obviously not made entirely of tritanium, and while tritanium is commonly used as a structural material, it is first alloyed with Mexallon which makes it stable in atmospheric conditions.
Not that any of that is actually relevant to saving Lisa.

This is a curious incident. If her ship was trashed I don't know why she didn't just take the pod express home. Or is she a mortal? Then I wouldn't understand why this is coming to my attention. Ms. Ouyano's message indicated survivors among her crew. Ms. Ouyano cares a great deal for her crews. It does not surprise me that she is staying with them to ensure their safety. I'm holding out hope that the reason for her not showing up in a medical bay yet is a matter of choice.

Quote:117.03.05 Still inside the wormhole117.03.05 Still inside the wormhole. More disappointing news. I landed on the night side a planet which has an axis perpendicular to the local star. Temperatures have not even crossed the zero threshhold, nor does it look like they are even going to. What's worse than landing on the nightside of a planet that has no day/night cycle? Landing on a planet which has ammonia rain. Yes, the liquid on this planet is ammonia. So on the positive side of things we are not going to have issues with ice. Crew morale is understandably low. The desire to go outside has been eliminated by the double threat of death outside. I didn't bring environmental suits either, as I didn't expect to land anywhere. We have enough on board supplies, food, water, medicine, to last a month. Hopefully we can figure out what to do before that time comes. I don't know if anyone can even read this, but I'm actually scared. I can never tell the crew this. I don't think they're going to survive, and my only hope is to activate a clone. I'm not going to choose this option until my crew . . . . I will not let my crew die. The choice to activate a clone will not ever come to pass. I refuse to let that happen.

'sup Mista Onzo?
Hrmmm ... I dunno yo. Looking at all the info she's been able to transmit, yet neglecting the most critical part that could get her saved, you know.
I think you're lookin' at one of two situations, Mista Onzo, sir. Knowing what us ladies can be like at times, I'm guessing she's neglecting that piece of info of purpose. Maybe she don't wanna be found n' is like taking a break or .. somethin'? Maybe she's not really missing at all? Maybe she just want some attention? You know, all totally options.
Either that or like her nav comp is soooooo badly busted up she can't even see the J-sig of the system. Pretty unlikely to me, Mista Onzo, I never heard of that before, but if that were to be actually the case then yeap, she be in some trouble yo.
If she don't wanna part with the J-sig when she easily could, or if she really can't, then time to start a new colony and get comfy, or put a bullet in her own head like my sista done that time, haha.

Those tritanium compounds, albeit not as explosive as their ore form in atmosphere, would not be barred from human habitats if they were perfectly stable in such environments...
For the Shigeru, I am pretty confident that besides the immediate concerns of toxic radioactive waste spreading out of the wreckage, there is a possibility of further explosions of some parts of the hull have not oxyded or burnt yet after the atmospheric entry.
That is why if this planet has a standard atmosphere, I cannot see a conventional starship keeping its integrity after entering it. We saw exactly what happens at the last Tsuruma incident when such actions are taken, if there really is a need for examples.
Not that it would be of great help anyway since... starships are not made to fly in atmosphere to begin with. They would fall like bricks.
If the capsule is intact, as it seems to show, then they are either on a small rock or moon with not much gravity, and without heavy atmosphere, or even without any at all. But amoniac rain indicates that there is one.
That planet looks fascinating... I hope we get more details soon. |

Decompose, yes. Oxidise, yes. Explosion? No.
Steel, upon exposure to the air, doesn't explode either. Instead, you get Iron Oxide and compromised structural integrity.
They are barred from human habitats NOT because the damn thing explodes, it is to prevent oxidization of the Tritanium-Mexallon alloy. The alloy does not explode because the alloy does not undergo a highly exothermic reaction with oxygen and nitrogen the same way pure tritanium does. Instead, the sodding thing decays at a more accelerated rate than steel. This is why the material is isolated away from humans, because human habitat is oxygen and nitrogen rich. It is to protect the alloy more than the person.
That's my entire point. It doesn't explode! The Bestower won't explode and kill the crew, instead she will more likely collapse and crumple and be rendered inoperable.
Also modern starships, other than orbit-to-surface shuttles, do not generate enough thrust to lift its mass and exit a gravity well, slingshot or no. To generate enough thrust to lift a cruiser, or at least a destroyer, one requires fuel and energy far exceeding what even the most powerful of starship reactors can provide. Without space-based industry, we wouldn't see even cruisers in space, or at least what we call cruisers would likely be the size and mass of a frigate.
It is possible however to improvise the Bestower to leave the planet but it involves removing the limiters of the engines and the reactors, cutting down the mass of the Bestower greatly (estimated by 78% at minimum) and alot of fuel. As you can expect, this is delicate work and many things can go wrong. Not to mention that issue with the fuel.
The capsule, I am certain, is intact. It just can't leave the planet due to the the reason I state above. The propulsion system does not generate enough thrust, even if she managed to eject it from the Bestower. However, an intact capsule should still have access to the neocom and she, by all rights, should be able to see the code name of the system. So why didn't she just use transmit that information and save us all the trouble?
