So I went into null sec today looking for a fight...and couldn't find one. I don't know if it was the time of night or what, but it was completely empty. Is this normal? I was just roaming null to see what I could fight. So how do you go picking a fight in null? I want to avoid fighting in low right now because I dont want to take the sec hit. |

Use the map, the ingame map will give you a good idea of recent hot spots, in the map control panel there is a tab called star map, from there the first tab is labeled stars. On the stars tab you can scroll to the bottom and you will see a folder labeled statistics. "Jumps in the Last Hour" will show you traffic and then there are two options for ships destroyed and pods destroyed, all of these overlays will give you an idea of what is going on where.
You can do more refined research using Dotlan. Here is NPC null sec region called Syndicate Clicking any of the systems on the map will bring up detailed info about the system.

The Borders from Low to 0.0 are always busy and camped, you could visit them for an fight :)
I highly recommend to use the Statistic function to display more details regarding jumps (already mentioned), ship kills in the last hour etc..
Check out Staging System and around them :)
PS: Good Luck :)

Roam around NPC nullsec regions. Curse, Delve, Syndicate and Stain are good places to find a fight. Catch is a good spot too because Brave newbs.

With regards to the question "is this normal" yes it is. There are definitely more and less busy times of day and this varies based on who the locals are and what timezone they live in. But yes much of null sec is empty most of the time.
Null sec accounts for the majority of the systems in known space yet the majority of players live in high sec. This is why if you follow the forums and the dev blogs over the years various topics come and go but the discussions about how to get more players to spend more time in null never go away. |

What were you roaming in?
Chances are, somebody saw you and commented on their private "intel channel" -- every 0.0 entity has one or more of these, usually for the region or constellation. If you were in an interceptor or frigate, everybody who saw it probably assumed they couldn't catch you, and if you were in something big, they probably assumed you were bait with a large gang behind you. People are paranoid out there.
If you really want solo fights without all the waiting, I'd suggest visiting the factional warfare areas of lowsec in a frigate or agile cruiser. Amamake is always a good starting point. You will often find a blob, so come in something agile and run away if they outnumber you. It will not take long to find somebody who is willing to take a 1v1 and despite what people on the forums will tell you, they don't always have an off-grid booster or a fleet waiting to warp in once you're tackled. (They only sometimes have those.) |

Null sec is pretty dead or blob warfare. Try faction warfare zones . Go to the map > sov> factionwarfare> all millitias That will highlight the different FW zones. OR you can use killboards, look at solo kills , then head to a system near you Looking for people in the complexes Good luck

I really like dicking around renter stations. People usually will give you a confirmation they saw you in local like *try harder ganking my afk-ship, scrub*, if they write something like that in local, you just find your potential fight. System can be found easily using the ingame map, just check for a remote system with people in space.
As to the tactics: Stay about 150-200km off their station and talk *anything* in local, some heroes will move out to you on their own after a few minutes. They'll usually bring ships two/three sizes above yours, so having an afterburner can be quite vital.

Dear OP,
if this is your first account, congratulations! By jumping straight into solo PVP you're on the path to winning EVE!
I have zero experience in null, but I can tell you that you'll get lots of PVP, manageable solo (though you'll die a ot) in Black Rise lowsec (Gallente/Caldari FW space).
Consider joining Faction Warfare if you're worried about sec status, you won't get any sec status hit for engaging the opposing militia. Though you're right, to effectively PVP in lowsec it's best to be ready to not care about sec status.

I'm not exactly an expert on this stuff so other can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fairly certain that sec status is a lot easier to fix than the faction standing hit you'll take with the opposing faction in FW. But even that is fixable. Also I'm pretty sure that you don't get any sec standing hit if you are not the aggressor so as long as the other guy engages first you should be fine with sec status.
Also you could do double duty. If things are slow in low sec then belt rat to get sec status up until someone show's up. You might even get some decent faction drops in the process. |

Correct! I'm a dirty -9.97 pirate and renegade and don't care about either, but it's important to point it out.

Correct again! But not engaging first limits your options somewhat, it's best to not have any limitations, especially when solo.
