So not only am I new to Eve but I'm new to the world of MMORG's the last games I was into were DOOM and Duke Nukem. Yes I'm old.
So a buddy at work has played EVE off and on and just looking the whole idea....building space ships and blowing stuff up yeah that works for me.
Here's the thing I'm following the basic tutorial with the AI, which has me flying around looking for a hostile NPC to orbit--I can't find one lol, I dunno if I'm just missing it or missing the point.
I watched a couple of youtube beginner guides that seem to be a bit out of date. Soo can anyone point me to a current beginners guide or maybe shed some light on the boggle I just mentioned?
TIA

Old youtube vids for beginners should not be out of date enough to matter all that much. Some UI changes have happened in the past few years to make things look different and there has been some rebalancing to make the ships fit differently and such but basic combat has not changed.
Also keep in mind that there are 2 different tutorial systems currently one of them is experimental and it seems many new players have had issue with. Not sure which you got but regardless keep in mind the tutorials are not everything and they may not even be all that good.
Eve is a true MMO in that you need to play it with other people. Your being new to MMORPGs is actually probably a plus TBH. Anyway back on topic you'll want to be looking for a new player friendly corp as some point so you have vets to ask questions of. If you are having issues finding someone to help in game post what timezone you are in or your normal active play times and someone in here I'm sure will be willing to help you. |

The agent info panel will have an option to warp or set destination to where you are supposed to go to complete the mission.
The agent info panel icon looks like a man in a hat, and appears at the top left of the display. |

Ok, where would I find such a corp?
I'm MST GMT -7 I believe, anytime on the weekends or evenings, except for the Ice Hockey games I'll be watching today :)

Assuming you warped off from the spot you started in, there should be a landmark in the system you started in (looks like an empty white triangle on the list of stuff in the top right hand corner of the screen, also known as the "overview"). At that landmark there will be some weak NPC's to kill.
Note, I haven't gone through the new tutorial system yet, so I can only speak on what I've read.

Here in the new player Q&A section of the forum there is a guide on how to find a corp that is a good fit for you. There is also a recruitment section in the forums. Additionally I believe there is a recruitment channel in game. Also when you see people in local or where ever and you click on their name for info you can then click on their corp which will bring up their corp's info. Often corps have recruitment info in the description.
Regardless of how you find a corp, many corps or their Alliances have a public channel that anyone can join. You can join their public chat channels and talk to them for however long you like. You can have multiple of these chat channels open so you can talk to several corps that you are thinking about joining. If you find some that are for sure not a good fit you can just close the chat tab or if you find one that you like apply to join.
You might get lucky and find the corp that you will be in for years to come on the first try but it's also possible that as your game knowledge grows you'll have a better idea of what you are looking for and decide to switch to a corp that more suits your play style at that time. The point is there are many of us in game more than happy to help out new players so don't feel like you are leaning on someone by asking noob questions. I can't say that you won't run across people with an attitude but this game is known for it's community.
Also with in the eve community there are sub communities and you can find many public chat channels that way. So most twitch streamers have channels. People with specific interests like: exploration, incursions, mission help, public roams (NPSI) etc... have public chat channels. Just interact with other players. You will find some that you like and some that you don't. Stick with the ones that you like. |

Hostile NPC is a (soon to be replaced) red cross usually referred to as a 'rat' from one of the npc pirate factions.
To find a one you either ask a lvl 1 security mission from an agent (assuming you have a ship of c.) or by warping to a near by asteroid belt (represented by a triangle). You can get you first ship by entering any station (the square in space) and clicking 'warp' or 'dock' to it.
Unless you were given as specific place to warp (right click in empty part of screen for menu) you are assumed to go and find that rat by your self. |
