I don't know why this is happening, but a friend of ours bought my wife and I the premium version or whatever on Steam about a week ago. When I create characters, I start in a pod or whatever inside of a station, and when she creates a character she starts in a ship in the middle of space.
She also doesn't have the tutorial tab when she opens help, and our settings screens are different (beyond just the color scheme)
Screenshots of the differences-

Could someone please tell us how to fix this? We're trying to play together (and I know we could play beyond the tutorials together,) but this is bothering us. |

I'm going to guess you chose different races and you just have different starting areas...? That sad it's been years since I made this character. The difference in color is just based on race. Mine is red! You can change the coloration easily enough... |

The way you fix it is in the list with the colors in your first screen shot, just change them both to the same color.

There's a new system being trialled for people starting. It's known as A/B testing.
Run both at the same time, and see how people react.
You'll be on the split between the two.
The other big difference on the settings screen, is because one of the characters is logged in, the other is at the character selection menu.
Woo! CSM 9!

And is there any way to change which one you're using so we can both have the same? |

I looks like you started as Minmatar and she started as Caldari.
Different factions/races start in different systems in the game. That's why you can't find each other.
One of you needs to travel to the system that the other one is in. NOTE: aside from appearance, background lore, starting skills, and starting location... the faction/race of your character DOES NOT... - prevent/penalize you traveling to different areas of space - prevent/penalize you from training for the ships/equipment of other factions/races - prevent/penalize you in what activities you choose to do.
As for the differences between your respective tutorials (or lack of thereof)... I have nothing. The New Player Experience in EVE has always been notoriously bad.
Your wife can probably find/start the tutorials by going into the "Help" window (it should be located on the utility bar to the left)... or by warping to the station in the system she started in (right click in space > Stations > mouse over desired station (should be the only option) > Warp to / Dock).
Your situation sounds more like the "normal" tutorials.
One last thing... missions in EVE are not designed for "co-op." Each mission location will be randomly generated and player specific (though, you can allow a friend to come with you by "Fleeting" with them... Right-click player > Invite to Fleet)

I think maybe you didn't read the post or look at the pictures.
The problem isn't that we can't find each other. I don't think I ever said anything about that. We know how to find each other on the characters we play together.
The problem is the difference in tutorials, and the question was answered by the dude above you. Apparently everything will be the same once we get past the tutorials section of the game.
Thanks though. |

Nope.
Basically, the one who started in space is a guinea pig for CCP.
Keep in mind though, you both can just do the career agents (F12 menu will show you the closest ones to your locations).

While you are at it, it might be a good idea to document and give feedback on the new new player experience. The experimental one is the one that starts in space and CCP could probably use any feedback you can come up with.
Having two people doing the two different new player experience models in the same household is likely to result in good feedback as you compare your experiences. |

ya eve can be a rough game to get up and going in. I have a relative get me into this game. I had him on vent to answer questions in the begining. I'm not sure I would have made it in this game without that help. That being said I think a lot of vets are in similar boats with regards to that start up experience so we are largely understanding and helpful to Eve virgins. So don't be afraid to ask for help. |

Your first play session or two will be different due to the testing of the new tutorials.
After that, the two should merge pretty much together.

OP, you and your wife are in a superb position to do all future EVE recruits a huge service.
Please give CCP as much feedback as you can regarding your opinions of the two different induction systems.

I get that two people in the same household got two different versions of the game.

CCP Rise gave a talk at Fanfest a couple of days ago on the New Player Experience (NPE) and the changes that CCP have been making to it. They have been testing out a new version of the tutorial alongside the old tutorial system; it looks like you and your wife are getting to try out both of them
