Anything else where the balance is so skewed in one sides favor can not logically be classified as PvP. Unbelievable, did you really just say it is not logical to classify a player fighting another player as PvP? Yes and I'm absolutely correct.
To PvP one must be able to counter. When there is absolutely no counter because you're melting someones ship in less time than it takes for a player to activate a module or take an action then the player becomes irrelevant.
The only thing you're fighting is the servers representation of an asset attached to a player. The player may as well not be there. Most PvP games go to great lengths to avoid this because its not a lot of fun or at all interesting, not PvP.
You could make a case that everything is pvp but I'm talking about combat not mining, which is what we're talking about, mining ships with weapons, simply a variation of mining roids with mining lasers.
Marsha Mallow wrote:Infinity Ziona wrote:He's mostly right though. A lot of EvE "PvP" is not PvP at all. I love PvP which is why I never got into the regular EvE PvP - which is essentially melting a player ship in which the player has 0% chance of doing anything to change the outcome.
If you want to PvP in EvE you do small gang, solo or fleet vs fleet. Anything else where the balance is so skewed in one sides favor can not logically be classified as PvP. PvP in the EvE sense covers a broader spectrum than games with rigid boundaries/matching systems. Which it should in an open world sandbox. Evading a gatecamp, dodging gankers or depriving people of kills is also a form of PvP imo. You just dodged the baddies because you fit your ship properly, know how to get past/avoid them and used your brain. If you die and lose something you can afford - and take it in good fun - it's content. Yes this is true though I'm talking about EvE combat alone.

Clearly you never heard of MANY new players that started to PvP within days...

I never said I was in a wormhole either.
You don't have to, we can see that from the killboards. Also, after 60 seconds, you are visible (no more gate cloak). Then you also became fair game, just becuase you didn't do anything, doesn't mean others should not fight you.
You got killed in your probe in a WH You are butt hurt about that. You blame the game instead of the actual error (YOU).

I agree, "carnival of degenerates" does have a nice ring to it. I'll try to find a way to work that one in at least once a day areound here. By the way, I just noticed today is this char's 2nd year and 10th day anniversary of joining this carnival of degenerates.

First I'd like to point out that "eve is dying" has become a meme and as such is of no practical use in regards to EvE's health in terms of player satisfaction. "eve is dying" started when some space themed MMOs where first announced and seemed to "correct all of EvE's shortcomings". Some of those games were:
- Star Trek Online (This subscription based game by Cryptic Studios that was sold of and went Free 2 Play pretty quickly) - Black Prophecy (by Reakktor Media. RIP BP.) - Jumpgate Evolution (RIP) GǪ
interestingly enough World of Tanks and League of Legends did (lol) to EvE than those space themed games. RIP Soundwave.
As for the mentality of EvE's playerbase, I can see nothing wrong with us GǪ and I usually don't refer to myself in plural.
Also, can someone explain what this thread is about?-á (Relax ! I'm just quoting Holgrak Blacksmith here.)

I fretted a bit about Elite: Dangerous - not as EVE done right, but as something that might appeal to the proportion of the EVE playerbase that wants internet spaceships but not cheerful amorality.

Ah yes, Elite Dangerous. I avoided mentioning ED and Star Citizen aswell for two reasons:
1) I didn't want to spark that discussion again. 2) I think people who have played the original games (Elite and Wing Commander) should definitely try out those games.
But you're right: nothing to worry about, because EvE is different in some very crucial points. CCP has got its niche.
P.S. Star Trek Online, was rather successful (Qapla' !) GǪ but it still belongs in the fail! category due to: 1) selling livelong subscriptions for 200$ and then going Free 2 Play 2) not attaining the millions of expected subscriptions expected while under Cryptics responsibility. 3) being sold of as "GǪ meh, it's dead Jim !" 4) failing to kill EvE despite "walking in stations, on planets GǪ heck even on the bridge of a spaceship"
P.P.S. sometimes I wonder if CCP have a secret place where they keep track of all the space themed games that tried to copy EvE or just parts of EvE and failed horrendously GǪ think like fighter planes get markings for every confirmed kill.
P.P.P.S. We should not make fun of failed games after Incarnagate and Dust514 GǪ not to mention World of Darkness (sincere R.I.P.)
P.P.P.P.S. Lol, ignore my P.P.P.S.
