So, I'm an old can flipper/ war dec guy who is trying to get back into the game.
CCP drove me off for a while (with these awful new crimewatch mechanics), but I'm trying to get back into the game. I don't often post on the forums, but I didn't see a lot of information on the topic in which I'm interested.
I popped a mission ship the other day and got a nice officer module worth a lot. It reminder me I once killed a macharial that dropped 2.3b in loots. I want to relive that experience more, I think.
Now I'm wondering how hard it would be to non-consentually engage some of these massive faction fit ships. I used to gank bots now and then for laughs, but I haven't done much of it.
I can choose just the active fit ones and, if i need, I could open the gank with 8 heavy neuts to prevent modules from getting turned on (at a gate).
I do have experience with alpha shooting, but I think I need to find exact concord response times to determine how many shots i'll get with a given gank ship. All i can find on this is people's guesstimates.
Here is the gig, I'm thinking.
Step 1) spend a day outside a mission hub with passive scanner and sensor boosts looking for suitable fits and recording the info Step 2) Choose a ship with about the right EHP Step 3)Arrange team gank with either 50k ehp alpha or neut followed by gank (need references to do the maths).
Has anyone been doing this? Seems like an untapped natural resource to me. I hadn't considered doing this. If you have the maths done, please post.
Thanks, Mo

There is no time or need for neuts, either the target is paying attention or he is not.
Looks like you got it besides that.
Consider baiting them as an alternative. Its sounds like you have a few alts, just steal out of their wrecks in a noobish looking ship or shoot their MTU and irritate them until they engage. If you are unsure about your tank, have a logi boat or two on standby.

If you are set on suicide ganking them, most of it is done on the system gates of mission hubs.
Example: Sometimes, the mission agent in Apanake will send you into Sheroo to do a mission. If a blinged target is seen jumping from Apanake into Sheroo, get eyes on the Sheroo side of the Sheroo-Apanake gate, then get a fleet of highsec legal instanados on the Apanake side. When they finish their mission, shoot them as they get into Apanake.
Your eyes then scoop loot (Deep Space Transports do this well)

Looking at the damage profiles, it's pretty sneaky: Wait till the crab faget gets into low shield/armor from incoming NPC fire, then land a group of thrashers on him.

Last time I was in Lanngisi (SOE L4 mission hub), feral packs of Mad Drunken Russians hunted the wild mission bear with hordes of Arty Thrashers.
Being that they were popping blinged out Marauders (Krono's were especially popular that day...) they were making what we in the business like to call 'the phat lewts'.

Since the rebalance of Marauders, it's much more common to see them with mostly tech 2 fittings, however - maybe tech 2 with 300m of faction/deadspace modules on top.
I personally fly a PVP oriented Marauder fit that's very close to that - one AAR, one X-type deadspace rep (the only valuable module), and the rest all tech 2 (meta 4 for the neuts).
Ships like that aren't profitable to gank. (They may still be fun).
Shoot everyone. Let the Saviour sort it out.

This is pretty much a couple of us multiboxing. The biggest issue is sec status. We found a way to balance out 3 ganks worth of sec hits for the whole crew with less than an hours worth of eve activities. You just have to stay ahead of it and stay positive while you are doing it.
We came out over a billion ahead from start to finish. We only did if for a week or two. Once you solve the math problem.... it's kind of boring. The logistics aren't what I would call difficult (assuming you keep a positive sec status).
(How those deep immersion CODE role players do it is beyone me. The question you really need to ask those ninnies is which is more boring? Mining or flying around in a catalyst dunking mining barges. They both take about the same amount of eve skill. To each is own though, you can't have a healthy forest w/ out a few nuts rolling around here and there) |

How to make stupid amounts of money for no reason:
Bait officer vindi bragging about it's officer fit in local.
Let people scan you for about 10 minutes near the closes mission hub, drooling about how much gucci that's fitted, warp to your mission , wait for about 2m for scouts to find your location, warp to another station, refit to lollerbulkheads, jump back to mission, have logi friends waiting on cloak, inc 15 or so alphnados, they all lock onto a 500k EHP vindi, they all drop their T2 1400s and scout 1400s. Repeat until financially satisfied or the imminent 40man fleet for no reason is formed.

Whatever you role players believe is cool with me. I've tried to sort through all the elaborate hoo haw you guys put out to 'justify' the low skill stuff you do and tbh I just get overwhelmed with the sheer magnitude of BS you guys generate and lose interest. The elaborate fantasy world you goobers have created would waste too much of my time to get my arms around it all.
Straight up role players I get. They have a mission statement and then 'talk like pirates' (or whatever). It's short, simple and doesn't waste too much of my time. Then there are you guys... Sweet Mother of Pearl you guys have some creative juices.
It's my fault, not yours. I just don't have all the free time necessary to wade into a pond that deep. |

I am not a huge fan of most forms of highsec pvp, as I've established by now. But looking at some of the fits posted in the burner thread...flying around in 500m ISK frigates and advertising that you're doing it is excessive. I don't know how many people actually use faction/deadspace fits for these missions but it is a question that needs answering.
Obviously trading one thrasher for even a single decent faction mod is a huge ROI.

Ok, So, what do you think about this.
Skill books don't spawn in Jita. They have to be flown there.
The closest place they spawn at (that can see Jita's market) is "Sakenta" which is 2 jumps from Jita.
When I was a carebear, I used to trade skillbooks because it's a very safe commodity (spawns at set prices). I flew large values of skillbooks in ships as small as an Ibis.
Imagine all those copies of "capital ship" skill books traveling to Jita...
What do you think, farmable? It's a shame that nobody gets to enjoy all that value.

Late to the party, citizen. CCP just released a dev blog confirming what every ganking advocate has been saying for years: getting ganked is the most exciting thing that's ever happened to a new mission runner or miner, and that said mission runners and miners are more likely to quit if they have no lossmails.
Ganking is love. Ganking separates good players (and revenue) from the chaff. Pessimism verboten!

There is a big difference between losing a noob ship one time, and losing from a 200M to more than 1B ship. So, the good players are sadomasochist players ?
