o/
Now, I've read the blog - https://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/a-glimpse-into-the-future-of-ship-skins/ and have (only) listened to the Fanfest Ship Skin presentation today, yet I still have one question that many of you are probably going to be asking very soon.
Question is: Is it enough to have, let's say, an Omen Kador Edition to "own" the Kador skin - Would you be able to apply it to a stock Abaddon, without actually having owned the Abaddon Kador Edition?
I've missed watching the part on Ship Skins today, can anyone clue/provide the link where it is stored on CCP's twich channel?
http://www.twitch.tv/ccp
I think it was during Game Design Panel.
Regards,

There is no whole-of-faction skin as such. It's individual hull skins.
It was in the keynote speech.

Yeah, that's how I understood it too. In your example, you'd need the "Kador" license for both the Omen Hull and the Abaddon hull.

So you must have a Kador BS sitting in dock someplace to apply the same paint to a new one? That's an awkward system.
How does the Genolution 'Auroral' AU-79 implant fit into this? The golden pod Genolution Auroral 197-Variant pod.

The skin isn't tied to the hull. You buy a license for it. You can then apply that skin to every one of those hulls you ever have.

It seems the new system involves injecting the skin, so I don't think it sits in a hangar somewhere.
Up until you inject it, it can be traded on the market. Once injected, it is permanently injected.
You can then hot swap the look of your ship at any time it looked like, even while in space. No need to be docked.
I don't imagine it will affect the golden pod implant at all, but who knows. That wasn't discussed. It would kind of make some sense to roll that into the skinning mechanic, so I guess we'll have to see.

102 new skins, bringing the total to about 130.
Minute wise, about the middle.

Wasn't it something along the lines of "You buy the "skin" you have it forever attached to your character. Any time you fly a ship that can use that skin you have the option of turning it on in the fitting screen.
So if I buy the Kador skin I can use it for my Omen, Apocalypse, Punisher. But not my Dominix. If any of those ships are destroyed I do not lose anything. I just turn it on again with the next ship I buy. |

I hope I'm wrong, but that's what I got out of it.

What of those ships that people do already have, like the above Kador Edition Omen -- will this qualify as a licence is the question! |

Actually, the devs previously indicated there would be two types of skins: Ones for individual hulls and ones that could be applied across different hulls of the same race. How many of the 'multi-hull' skins will be released and the cost difference is anyone's guess at this point.
Iroquoiss Pliskin wrote:What of those ships that people do already have, like the above Kador Edition Omen -- will this qualify as a licence is the question! Yes, CCP Seagull specifically addressed this - as long as you have either the ship or the BPC it will be convertible to a license.

The above question to this quote still stands - When the system goes live, does ownership of a Skin ship qualify as a licence - or are those ships going to become one-time Editions of some sort and thusly sky-rocket in price.
Anyway,

Yes.
I can confirm what Arthur said about BPCs & their conversion when it all goes live.
However, following the Ship SKINs part on that Stream, there is a most excellent presentation of ambitious-proposed new structures for EVE Online. Structures, which in due time would replace the current POSes, that could become anchorable _ANYWHERE_ in the system, not just moons or planets!
This structures' project could revitalise EVE beyond wildest imagination: the future dynamics of true player content in our sandbox would be at hand.
I would like to enter any system and see 20 - that's twenty - 20 player-owned stations/offices/hubs all around the system with warpable beacons to them! Wouldn't be any different than the same number of POSes said system could contain, albeit all hidden behind moons.
Of course, whether to make these stations accessible to the Public is the owners' prerogative, but the fact that they would be there... Bring a tear to my eye.
P.S. I'd charge transaction tax on mine, though. |

Shrug, people want to look at pretty. Otherwise you just have stats shooting other stats; back to the text-based era.
They'll probably make more money selling ship colors than from Valkyrie or other side games. The skins are character-bound, rather than account, so there's definitely multiple purchasing of the same skin. |

Yes, I think it was mentioned that some licences would be player-created - perhaps, just like the alliance logos? |

It is not hard since each ship skin has a template. And yes I was thinking of a similar sort of approach with the alliance logos. It seems a little detail but I'm sure many pilots would appreciate flying personalized ships, not available to anyone else outside the alliance.
P.S. and since there are threads questioning why players avoid leaving NPC corporations it would also be a tempting incentive. |

Silly rhetoric aside, I really like the high-contrasting ones, say deep blue + on grey-ish. The same hull palette for 10 years have grown very old on me, leading me to ownership of Pirate faction vessels on the sole basis that I liked the c0l0urs more.
The multiple graphics upgrades over the years have been a relief, but there's a limit on how innovative, creative and varied you can be while recycling the same models using the old colour palettes.
HIGH-5 for HIGH-contrasting Ch0isEs!
P.S. NEWS AT 11: Rumours are spreading as to the cause of great mayhem in the lower Empire regions. Some eyewitnesses have reported seeing roaming gangs of shiptoasting, nanogaf Ishtar bittervets, crayon-coloured in full My Little Pony rainbows. |
