I'm sure this has been discussed at some point before, but I couldn't find any topics on it after a while of searching, so here we are.
How do we learn? Has it ever been established in lore? Can we just plug ourselves to a computer and go "I know kung-fu!" or do capsuleers still have to do the learning the boring, old-fashioned way? Or are skills just game mechanics, and are we just considered to have (technically) learned everything when we start as a capsuler and skills are actually how long it takes to cut the red tape and be allowed to fly capital ships?
I have this faint recollection that skills are simply just a game mechanic and we shouldn't read too much into it, but if anyone else knows better, I'd appreciate your input. |

If I remember correctly Empyrean Age implied that skills are loaded into a capsulers brain via his implants. Skillbooks would therefore be something like blueprints of neural connections and firing sequenzes coding the knowledge of, for example, flying a cruiser. Training more levels into a skill would allow for the restructuring of more sophisticated neural connections and deepen the expertise in a skill's field. |

I can't speak to the mechanism by which it is achieved but Marcion is right in that the lore established that skill training is a passive process which occurs through our implants. Somehow.

They're injected into your spine via the ports in the back. This is shown in the Origins trailer at about 2:31 (the EVE Online twitter account about a year or two ago posted that image while identifying it specifically as skill injection).
