I'm curious about the best way to bump another ship, like, repeatedly. I have done a little experimenting and it looks to me like a difficult task. Approaching gets me repelled at, it appears, around 300m. Then, re-approaching from the repelled position results in no action. Approaching and then hitting max speed without changing direction also results in no action. Double clicking on the space immediately beyond the ship's icon just causes me to miss it by a wide margin, since I can't tell where it is in 3-dimensional space. Yet, I'm always hearing about people bumping other ships. So, how is it done?

Hmm,
if your target is stationary and you're lined up straight towards them at no transversal, you'll bump them straight away from you and will hopefully stay lined up for the next bump.
What also works nicely is bumping them against something unmoveable, like a station or a rock.
If your target is nimble like a frig, or you're in a slow ship yourself, chances are you will probably not be able to keep them from warping.
Additional ideas: - Deploy a couple drones and maybe keep them orbitting *you* instead of your target, so they'll run into those with a bit of bad luck. - If they're aligned, jet a can in front of their nose - Missiles used to give a little bump. A high rate of fire helps, so maybe use rockets. I'm not sure this is still in effect.

I did this with a corpmate's BS once in my arbi, drove him nuts trying to warp

Isn't bumping someone to keep them from warping considered an exploit? --- WTS: Forum Signatures, 30mil a piece. Evemail me!

I hope not because I once killed a Brutix with 4 stabs by bumping it into an asteroid
In all seriousness, I don't see why it should be (if it is) its a game mechanic...

Yes but only if are doing it in high sec, for example, to stop a freighter warping for no good reason. If you are killing them i believe its fine. |
