Circadian Seekers have these in their cargo upon destruction - managed to down a few before the Drifters started coming through the wormhole and making a mess of things... bastards destroyed my Aliatra Signature series, along with everyone on board...
At any rate, took a closer look at some of these little baubles and figured they look a bit like some kind of Jovian engineering... Grabbed another vessel and headed off to one of the de-cloaked Observatories; noticed that it was pretty beat-up. Seems the Seekers had done a number on it but I suppose that's to be expected...
What perplexes me though is that the parts that weren't attached to the structure itself, just floating out in space, seemed to have the same pulse of energy that the rest of the structure did. My theory is that its still being powered despite not being connected to anything and given the design of Drifter ships and their weapons operating separately - remotely - I can't help but assume that these little bits came from the observatories themselves rather than from the other side of these wormholes that keep popping up.
The Drifters seem pretty hellbent on defending them, either way... Had two of their Battleships idling some distance away from one earlier...

It does appear the Seekers and Drifters are cannibalizing the Observatories for these elements. If true it would also suggest that despite having access to Jove level technology they lack the ability to build these themselves and are forced to salvage them. For what purpose, well we can only guess but I doubt it is anything good.

I agree with Tykari here, they are definitely harvesting them from the Observatories, but I don't think they're responsible for the damage, they may merely be a 'cleanup team' or simply taking the elements.
If they do have the power to do that much damage to a Jovian Observatory, which our best laser and projectile technology simply bounced off of, then we are in some serious trouble.

Keep in mind the Drifters have access to powerfull weaponry, and they may possess knowledge on the exact composition of the material the observatories were constructed from. So it is probably easier for them to devise a means to break them open.

Judging by the power od the DD scale weapons on the battleships we have seen I think they could be used as a pretty effective can-opener at a push...It's possible the ships the Drifters are piloting have not been built by them but by a later gene-strain of the Jove. they may understand how to pilot them but not how to build and maintain them. |

Its a possibility. My curiosity mostly stands with the fact that the Drifters do like to hang out around the observatories, if not necessary engage the observatories themselves. Hard to stick around in the area long enough to find out.
Shame we can't send an insertion team onto one of those Battleships and see if we couldn't take control of it but I'd suspect they'd have some sort of counter measure in place for that as well... Need to figure out a way to disable them entirely or some other means of destruction without conventional weaponry or we're going to lose just on sheer numbers alone. It takes a tremendous amount of firepower and lives to take those things down and it seems we're just adding to their numbers whenever we try.
We need to tip the scales in our favor.

Do we have any documentation of Circadian Seeker behavior when scanning capsuleer vessels holding these Elements in cargo? I'm curious if they would use force to reclaim them. |

No, though I have seem them become aggressive on a Rookie Ship that was too close to an Observatory for seemingly no reason at all.

They're protecting their salvage op. Just like we would if we were in a wormhole system, hacking a data site and didn't want other people to take the goods.
Maybe they need the tech. Maybe they need it as fuel. Maybe they just don't want us to have it.

No sane, intelligent, creature would want a Capsuleer to have any sort of advanced technology.

I've been following this Artemis Tyrannos for the better part of an hour, watching it saw away at an Observatory. No real success on it's part but a few Seekers swing around every so often and then slow-boat over toward the Drifter. Once they're close enough, they all warp out in unison, without ever having accrued anything of value it seems.

I would like to point out the Seekers also carry corpses with them, I have found a few while playing pest control alongside the Antikythera Element. I have to wonder are they just recovering the dead from the field or maybe they are finding them in the Observatory? Or any unlucky capsuleer who dies near them gets their corpse abducted, like we capsuleers seem to do ourselves.
Are they keeping them as trophies? Biomass? To be put to rest?

I recently decided to act on a theory and it proved... circumstantially correct.
Either Artemis Tyrannos don't engage capsules and only Apollos do, or they simply don't go for clones without implants. All of the known Capsule deaths had extensive augmentation in the clone - mine did not and I followed the Drifters and the Seekers for the better part of an hour without being engaged.

I saw that and i've seen an Artemis engage but only Apollos take the credit? I'm not certain.
