I am a low sp explorer. I've been making good money exploring low and null sec in an Anathema.
I'll soon be finished with all my scanning / hacking skills and want to pick a T3 cruiser for my next long term goal. The idea is for a ship that can both explore and run any combat sites I might find. Is there one that stands out as paticularly good or bad at this? Or are they so close in performance I should simply pick the legion for conveniance?
Thanks in advance for any feedback. |

Tbh I would train into a Stratios first, it can be fit as an all in one better than the T3s but has limited capacity for DED and unrated sites.

This came up pretty recently. My answer has been pretty standard for years now: it depends, but not a Loki. The other three all shine in different environments but never a Loki. |

I use a tengu as it has the range to hit things, weapons are not reliant on cap, TD doesn't affect it and a decent tank, even after the nerf, to do most sites. You will need to carry a mobile depo as trying to run higher end sites in a cloacky / interdiction fit tengu, or any t3, is pretty hard. If you staying in hs.. just use a stratios. does decent damage with sentries and ogres.. Gila is also a great little ship. BTW, T3's can't get in to some of the HS sites.. think it was the 3/10's

T3s can't get in to any rated high sec sites (nothing below a 5). They can manage to get into most unrated sites though.
There's definitely something to be said for a Stratios (or a Gila if you don't mind the lack of a covops cloak) in low sec. There are quite a few 3/10s and 4/10s that go unloved because the T3 pilots have to pass them by. However, T3s have it much easier in 5/10s and higher. Depending on which space you're in the payouts may be better one way or the other. |

Is there a reason why a gila is better than an ishtar for lowsec exploring? |

Less training time to fly one properly? |

I didnt thought about that. So its either stratios or gila as OP requests for a low sp fit. |

I can fly Tengu and Legion...and personally I don't understand how and why would I use them for exploration.
Those ships can maximum run C3 wormholes, income there is around 120 mils per hour (correct me if I am wrong) and there is a big risk to get killed and loose an expensive ship + skillpoints. Doing lvl4 missions gives me around 100 mils income.
Also another big question is cargo hold size. To travel / scan in WH / 0.0 / Low sec I would like to have 3 subs dedicated to this (interdiction nullifier, cov ops config and sub dedicated to scanning hacking) , also you need a mobile depot and mobile tractor beam, and a combat configuration. After all this you have only 40m3 space left (or similar numbers). For Tengu or Proteus there isn't enough space for ammo.
Also there is a big question of ship cost. Tengu with WH exploring fit and additional subs will cost around 800 mils.
So my advice get a friend in a Gila and train for Stratios. This way you will be able to do very good damage, scan effectivly, and fit stratios for PvP with neuts. So you will be able to fight back, if you get jumped by someone. |

Gila does quite fine in C3 which i do often. As long as your smart enough 150-200m depending on which sites are up is doable (salvaging on the go while killing sleepers) |

a gila for null exploration? good luck with that one. tengu is your best bet with covops and interdiction nullifier and few warpcore stabs, mobile depot and combat fit in cargo

One of the major turnoffs for using a T3 is cargo space. After everything you need to carry the amount of room leftover is pitiful and makes the ship unviable for true exploration where you might not run into a station for days or even weeks while being out in the field. Stratios as been great, I also have been using a curse to get around in wormhole for data/relic sites. Being d-scan immune is freakin sweet.

Thanks for all your responses, you've given me a lot to think about.
I've decided to go for the Stratios first and see where that takes me. From what I've seen I think it will do better in WH exploration but will be too slow for travelling null safely. I'm guessing it will be at least 6-8 weeks to fly one properly so that gives me plenty of time to save up for a few to lose to stupid noob mistakes. |

Stratios would be a better step up i think....
I still use a stratios if i do any exploration....
yes its expensive but still half the price of a proteus |

double the risk of a proteus too, first bubble you land in and your a killmail
t3 is more flexible in nullsec, spend the extra to be safer

Yes I agree about the Stratios being risky in null sec, I would only use it in low sec and wh space. I don't think any of the training needed for the Stratios would be wasted so it's the most logical upgrade imo. |

I use the Stratios and love it for exploration sites. I even go to null.
