Hello all, I am looking for some help. Please do not tell me to go to Battleclinic, that site is outdated and terrible for fits.
I am considering putting one of my mains in a Null Renter Corp. They are stationed in Vale where there's lots of Guristas type rats/anoms. I am having trouble finding ships that will work well down there that I can fly. Right now I am mainly doing L4's in a Mach working towards a Vargur, but should probably change my plan if I am moving to Null.
What I am looking for is if anyone can recommend various types of full fits that will be able to rat/solo combat anoms down there in Null. Preferably something other than an 'isktar' or 'rattlesnake' fit.
Thanks. |

Well, I think the reason everyone recommends the Rattlesnake is because it is one of the better solutions out there. Alternatively I suppose you could try to the Domi? |

I am not against the Rattlesnake, I just cannot fly it right now. So there's no point in looking at it, I am trying to identify if there's anything I can take down there now and be successful. |

Assuming you have some missile skills... have you considered the FoF Raven? I know, I know, no one uses FoF missiles for some reason but I personally have found them to be pretty decent, especially against Guristas. FoFs do not require the target to be locked and shoot beyond your max lock range (at least they used to and I haven't seen anything in patch notes proving otherwise in the past couple of months), as long as the missiles themselves can fly that far, so it's ideal against Guristas who use ECM.
The following fit is an omnitanked one, but you can switch hardeners to be Guristas specific. With Cal BS IV, Cruise missile spec IV, FoF missiles IV and supports at V, you get 525 dps with FoF missiles compared to 580~ dps with regular T1 cruises. I admit FoF missiles have their drawbacks, such as shooting drones, always targeting the closest target and thus sometimes leaving a NPC at 30% hull and allowing it to regenerate shield/amor, but it's a viable fit for some lazy ratting. Being able to sit at 150km+ also negates vast majority of any incoming damage.
[Raven, FoF]
6x Cruise Missile Launcher II (Inferno Auto-Targeting Cruise Missile I)
Large Micro Jump Drive 2x Adaptive Invulnerability Field II Thermic Dissipation Field II EM Ward Field II Large Shield Booster II Cap Recharger II
Damage Control II 4x Ballistic Control System II
2x Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst I Large Warhead Flare Catalyst I
Please don't hang me for suggesting FoF missiles.

FoF missiles are just about the only way I can avoid hanging myself when ratting guristas. Or a sentry drone ship like the ones you didn't want named :)
Look at missile ships and stick cruise launchers on there.
You will have to put a decent tank on there though, since missiles tend to take a bit to kill the small stuff your stuck under fire longer than with a gunboat.
TL;DR basically a +1 to every post above

You like Minmatar ships, so here's a Maelstrom fit I use for fighting Angels. Works fantastic with Angel rats, but they like to come in close. With Guristas you're likely to spend more time using the afterburner or MJD to get in to close range with them.
[Maelstrom, autocannnon with mjd] Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer
100MN Afterburner II Large Micro Jump Drive Dread Guristas X-Large Shield Booster Shield Boost Amplifier II Explosive Deflection Field II Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

Large Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I Large Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I Large Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I
Valkyrie II x5 Warrior II x5 Hornet EC-300 x5
For Guristas, because they jam, you might want to swap out a tracking enhancer for the low-slot version of an ECCM. Switch to Phased Plasma ammo for more thermal damage. And change shield hardeners and drones, of course. Naturally, you could do something very similar with a Machariel and it would be even faster. Artillery would solve the range problem, but ratting with large artillery is like Chinese water torture. You will be hitting self-destruct within an hour. |

Seeing as the Raven only has a 75m3 drone bay and 50mbit bandwidth, the obvious choice is to either have a set of medium and light drones of the preferred damage type (thermal/kinetic in this case) or two flights of light drones and a set of ECM drones in case you **** up and get tackled. |

See a lot of this. People joining corps then coming here to ask questions. What kind of corps are these?

Couple mentions of asking my Corp, they have mostly said use an Isktar or Rattleisk/Tengu. I cannot fly any of those well enough to actually warrant flying them. Upon asking about what direction to head in, there's a lot of silence.
Finding a good, helpful, enjoyable Corp in this game is not easy. I have been through dozens of Corps and none of them really seem interested in "helping the new guy". I like the Corp I am in because once I am up on my feet, I will be able to fly with them. However, right now I just don't know what to do. I just sent a few fits worth of cargo down to our System, not sure when it will arrive. I am going to try those out and see where I stand.
Maybe I just picked the wrong types of ships, I really like the Minmatar but it sounds like I need a Gallente pilot. Maybe I should just try selling my Mach pilot and try to find a Tengu/Isktar pilot. Or I can just try training 30 days worth of drone skills and try the Isktar. |

I agree with what everyone else has said here. The only thing that I have not seen mentioned is the Tengu and maybe that's due to the recent nerf but I'm not sure how big of a deal the nerf is for PvE. I've never flown the tengu but about a year ago I had a friend who flew them in level 4 missions all the time. We were in caldari space so him and I could pull the same mission and I would get almost perma jammed on some missions while he claimed to almost never get jammed running the exact same mission. I'm not sure if tengus are still that strong in that regard but I figured that I'd mention it.
If you are in safe enough space you could go with a Marauder for bastion mode. Otherwise like has already been stated you'll need ECCM, FoF missiles, and / or drones or some combination there of. If not the guristas ECM will eat up a lot of your dps. |

This is going to be fun....
Flying with a corp...while in a renter corp...
p.s.
They suggested those fits, because they are the best fits to use to maximize income.
p.p.s.
They are renters, the only reason they are in null is because they want maximum income, hence the ship's suggestions.
p.p.p.s.
Good luck flying "with them" as 99.9% of the time, they will do their own thing, solo. Cause who wants to share income with others.

I was going to be helpful but I'm afraid I just lost my monocle and spilled tea everywhere. When's the last time you fought Guristas rats? Being jammed 80% of the time lowers your DPS so much it can be difficult to break their passive recharge. Drones and FoF are really the only viable solutions.
Kali Itinen wrote:Looks like I need to spend about 30 days draining Drone skills OP do you have missile skills? Just slap some t1 cruise launchers on a Typhoon and load them with FoF. Train up your missile support skills as you go. You shouldn't be waiting 30 days to go ratting. Sure maybe it isn't optimal, but some is more than zero.

Hi you are in a renter corp. Some out there are good, I cut my teeth in one a few years back, but generally they are simply the worst. If you are looking for ISK and a corporation to help you get ISK there are a lot of Highsec mission/Incursion famring corporation that will do just that.
Find ones with 0% tax.
Talk to the guys and hang out in their "public" area for a bit. Lurk in their teamspeak for a day or two. Above all, get into one of their ops BEFORE you join, even if it's just a T1 derp frigate roam. You'll see what their playstyle/personality is like .If they are lacking many/any of these things you probably do not want to join them. |

At 5 drones of T2, the Tristan is nearly as powerful as the Algos, with a cheaper price tag, better maneuverability and speed, and smaller sig radius to avoid the lazy carebearish T3 station blapping -10s who have no life. Pick tristan for FW.
