Hi! Sorry, me again! *kinks* (:
I wondered if people actually use them.
It took me years to even consider them, then started using them but realised that the whole system is flawed.
No automatic settings based on username/corp/etc.,) and there's a rather low limit of them available. (unless that changed?)
So after using them for a while, constantly moving mails onto the appropriate labels, I gave up on it, because it really doesn't do me much good.
What about you? Any care for these labels? (not to confuse with contact-labels please!)
Edit: I'd like to add a followup question:
Would you consider using them if they actually worked as one would expect? (aka automatic filtering, for example)
Thanks again! :) |

I label all my mail in bulk.
CTRL-A Trash.
That may not be the best use of the system, but it sure is quick.

Not really. Usually after I click trash, I right click and hit empty.
I think I have half a dozen mails in my box. Any more than that and I get delete happy.

I used it a bit, but since it doesn't matter if you flag a mail since it won't show up after it goes beyond the max number of mails it's kinda useless. That was specifically the reason I wanted to use it, so I could easily find 6 month old mails sorta

/c Interesting.
Can you tell me if reading mails from the API restores the past ones?
I only know it shows even deleted mails (unless that changed?), and I am not sure how to look for it.
API is kind of unimportant for me right now.
Thank you, Chribba, and others. :) |

Last time I checked no, it will only return a set amount of mails.
However sometimes sorting mails in EVE Gate will show up mail from like 2007, so they're there CCP just refuses to show them to us.

I tried to use them once, just to get an idea of how they work, and I wasn't happy with the experience. At the end of it, I had to wonder what the word "label" translates into in Icelandic, or vice versa. It sure didn't do what I expected it to do. And, it got out of control real fast. I have a lot of experience in documentation and filing systems, so it was a feature I thought might be useful. It wound up being something that requires lengthy explanation. I don't have time for that with something like this.
Oh, the follow-up. Sorry. YES. I'd use a cross-referenceable document sorting process. I'd also love to see notes from the notepad integrated into it as a single documentation system. As is the mail function is clumsy and cumbersome. Being able to create live links in it is great. The character limitation isn't. But, hey. I dunnat wan' to be no trouble to the boyz in charge, now.
PS I'm glad somebody finally mentioned this.

Would you prefer automatic assignment of labels, depending on filters?
What about an actual search? |

Would you prefer automatic assignment of labels, depending on filters? What about an actual search? OOooh, automatic...take a look at the messenger's auto-complete debacle. I'd rather use my own reasoning. Tagging by subject would be nice. Say your alliance is trying to coordinate tasks with several members - not everyone is involved in all projects. Some way to color tag maybe - everyone procuring fuel; everyone providing security, that sort of thing so you don't have to wade through stuff, reading it all...losing something in the pile, having to go back for it. Being able to send out task specific mailings only to those involved in a particular thing would be helpful as well.
Then, rather than hanging onto all alliance correspondence, just in case, being able to delete, or even retire to a folder, things already acted upon. Just the regular routing/disposition activities with correspondence and documentation.

Also, on-topic ... you don't use the labels, do you?

Well actually, the open thread on that topic can be found here.
And on the topic of this thread, yes, I use them quite often. Especially to differentiate the internal ISD/CCP mail from the rest. But as Chribba already stated, there are limitations regarding the amount of posts you can see. As such there are also limitations to the functionality of the mail label.
Btw, you are aware of the fact that you can create your own custom labels?

I hinted at that in my initial post. I'm not up2date, but a few months back I hit the limit. It's not that many.
I had no idea labels really were a thing people use.
This is important to know! :D
Thank you! :D
