Hey guys,
I'm coming back after a long hiatus and will be trying to get into level 4 missions for a steady stream of income. I am able to do L3s in my Harbinger without much trouble but still consider myself a combat noob... so my question is what are the safest ways to mission? Do the L4 AI ships ever scram? Could I use something like a warp core stab or micro jump drive to ensure that I escape with my 300 million isk ship (still a lot by my standards) even if I am unable to complete the mission?
My idea, as of now, is to use a Navy Apocalypse and run exclusively in Amarr space. Until I can use T2 pulse/scorch I plan on sticking to beam lasers and will try and take advantage of the range combined with a micro jump drive perhaps.
What do you guys think.
For reference my gunnery support skills are pretty solid, all level 4 with gunnery itself @ 5 for the large lasers. Drone skills are okay with drone interfacing up to 3 and most other support skills @ 3 but no T2. Tank wise I might be a little lacking, as I won't be able to fit a T2 large rep. |

No, they don't scram, some will disrupt but it is pretty rare. If you are worried about losing your ship MJD will get you out of sticky situations. Sounds like you have the right idea although I would probably start off with a less expensive BS until you have built up your funds a bit more and are a bit more confident in running the level 4s.

Navy apoc is a good choice, make sure you have a set of light drones, T2 preferably. Fitting warp core stabs firstly gimps you dps and or tank and makes your targeting take longer.. so don't do that. If you not sure of your fit, try it on the test server, or fly with someone. I am in amarr.. pretty big place I know, but happy to come along as will many people in the helpmymission in game channel..

Incorrect, there are several level 4 missions that may spawn warp scramblers although webbing or disruption is far more common.

Iv been scrammed a few times in lvl 4 missions. Usually by the little fast frigates. Use hobgoblins to get rid of these while main weapon system concentrates on other ships.
Can't remember which faction does the scramming though, sorry :/ |

No level 4 mission NPCs ever scram. Even though it says "warp scramble" it's almost always a regular disruptor. |

Agree with this. So large micro jump drive will get you out if things will be getting nasty. Unless your capacitor will be dry. Then you will lose the ship.
Even in Amarr space you will face not only Blood Raiders, Sansha or Rogue drones, but also Angel Cartel , Serpentis or Mordus huners. You will have to adapt your type of damage to do missions quicker than 1 mission in hour. It will be pain to get with lasers through Angel extravaganza L4 for example.
If you have zero Gallente battleship skills you should pick up Armageddon with sentry drones and cruise missiles. That way you can adapt your damage type. Just jump 100 km from NPC and start cleaning the space. When they come too close - jump again and keep cleaning. Range is your tank and safety belt against disruptors / capacitor drainers.
Newbee is far more safe with sniping fit (Dominix or Rattlesnake) than in brawling fit (Machariel, Abaddon) and Appocalypse is just poor DPS comparing to boats with bonused sentry drones. |

L4 are a different beast than L3.
As a rule of thumb, if you get pointed by rats, your best bet is actually geting RID of these rats. Meaning T2 Light Drones. T1 Drones just don't cut it to kill elite disrupting frigates.
In fact, as a rule of thumb, you shouldn't get into a BS unless you have the skills to (except for guns, Meta4 are acceptable) T2 the thing.

And if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order.'
Yeah, we're like that.

Bships make easy level 4 missions. Just equip microjump and pop yourself 100k away then snipe with sentries or long range weaps. Sure its boring but until you have sufficient brawling skills you are better off safe and far away from danger - 1 ship loss pretty much erases any benefits you would have obtained for the last x hours of play. Over tank and play conservative until you can afford a second ship.
Tech2 and tech3 cruisers are also good for taking on lvl4 missions but you have higher max potential with battleships. I skipped battlecruisers so i can't comment on those. |

Good advice here.
I flew a drake back in my early L4 mission days. Like another person in the thread said......going from L3 to L4 is like night and day.
I had to kite my arse off in just about every L4 mission while trying to drone everything down. I lost a few ships because of impatience and stupidity. Its all about picking each part of the mission out and knowing when to do what when chaos begins.
I was never a battleship guy really....wasnt fast enough for me. I stuck with BC's for the longest time and went back and grabbed every cruiser skill and took it to level 5. I bought a T3 tengu and havent looked back. I would try out a T3 down the road when you got the skills.
Destiny always seems decades away, but suddenly it's not decades away; it's right now. But maybe destiny is always right now, right here, right this very instant, maybe.

After 5 years of level 4 missions I would have agreed with you until a few weeks ago. Now all I have to say is the luck of the mission gods must be with you.
