I'm returning to the game after a hiatus and was wondering in today's world of eve, what voice comms are the most common?
(ie; ventrilo, mumble, teamspeak, etc.) |

Yes.
Different groups use different programs. |

Are those 3 still the most common, which of the 3 would you say is most used. Are there any other voice comms that are common that are out there? Does anyone use eve voice? |

Not sure if EVE Voice is used; the advantage of mumble, TS3, and ventrillo is that if your EVE client crashes, the comms don't crash with it. EVE Voice may be used for Sansha Incursion groups. |

My fleet uses EVE Voice. It's not the most reliable - there can be delays in joining - like, ten or more seconds between joining and actually hearing anything - or sudden invisible loss of communication for an individual even though every indication is they're still connected.
But it's guaranteed that every EVE player has access to it, which is a major plus.
Funny thing is, EVE Voice uses different network ports than the game client, so even if the game client crashes you can still communicate as long as you keep the socket closed error up.
Anytime I've done anything else in EVE requiring voice coms, it's been over TS3.

Having TS3 and Mumble installed should give you a good coverage. But the preferred tool depends on corp and fleet FC.

TS3 is the most common due to very high compatibility with the Eve client and a solid GUI overlay that doesn't interfere with gameplay.
That said, voice program footprint is measured in MEGAbytes. Just download all three and load them with your in-game handle or something similar, update the ones you don't use every month or two, and keep 'em all on tap. If your computer can't handle that, why are you in these forums? Your comp can't handle the Eve client either. |

Very rare but add Skype to the list as well. In my experience Team Speak and Ventrillo are the most often used, so as the others have said it really depends on the group you are flying with.
If you asked for a personal preference I try to use Team Speak whenever possible since it has less trouble cooperating with my computer and some of the drivers I have installed. |

All of the alliances I have been in have used mumble or teamspeak. Ventrillo has become less popular over the years as it is starting to show its age from what I have heard. Ventrillo was really popular for a long time as Teamspeak didn't support macs at the time meaning that Vent was the main source. Mumble is popular as it is open source and thus is significantly cheaper for alliances and corps to set up and use. Teamspeak is still quite popular although it requires more money to set up and maintain.

Skype is used more for communication between diplos or alliance leadership in my limited experience. It is a good thing to have though.
