o7 comrades
So i made a trial account and downloaded the game outside of steam. I want to keep playing and get the sub benefits, but i can only pay through steam, because i have 30 euros on there i want to spend. But if i buy the game through steam do i have to make a new account? Luckily i have only invested about 3 days (not game time) on this character. I would of course prefer to keep my character and still play through steam, and do all the paying from there. |

Yes, you would have to make a new account. Steam accounts and normal accounts aren't transferable. Steam's also apparently quite a pain, so be sure you want the extra hassle (and do some research) before you decide. |

1. Steam goes offline for updates and you get the occasional disconnect for whatever reason. Didn't happen a lot to me, but enough to be noticeable. These combined with the Eve client DT and random DC's from the Eve Client make for an annoying experience if playing through Steam.
2. You can only ever sub 1 account through your steam account, and chances are that you'll eventually roll an alt or two later down the road. If/when you do this, you'll end up having 1 account on Steam and the other accounts through the Eve Client, which for me was a PITA and too much for my OCD to handle. May as well just go straight to the Eve Client with all your accounts.
3. If/when you do decide to transfer your character from a Steam account to the Eve Client, you will have to pay a $40 transfer fee.
4. Logging into the Eve Online Forums if you sub through steam can be another PITA. If you browse the forums from work all night like I do, you'll constantly be hit with the "You are logging on from a new device, so please verify your account through the email we've just sent you," bullshit.
In summary, Steam is great but not when used for playing Eve. Save yourself the trouble and just sub through the Eve site.

And i cant afford them, and it ruins the game for me personally. Thanks for telling me anyways, but all people i know playing through steam is fine. |

Steam is fine. I have only been delayed in getting into the game due to it twice for a few hours each in 10 months. On the other side, I have been subscribing for like half price from hitting a Steam exclusive sale.
Eventually I may get a second account, maybe, but for now I have no real need. |

If you want to keep the name biomass your current character to free up the name before you start a new character through steam, takes 24 hrs IIRC. You mean i delete my character right? so i can name my new one the same? |
