Current Mining Implementation: *Asteroids have only 1 ore type ex Veld, Dense Veld, Spod *Asteroids have an exact amount of units that can be pulled from the rock *Survey Scanner can be used to see how many units in the asteroid *Very easy to determine isk/hr - no real "reward" feeling
Some ideas for change: *No more single ore Asteroids **Survey scanner used on an asteroid will show veins in the rock ****get a pop up that looks similar to hacking window ***target the vein itself ****low quality lasers have very little effect on high end ores ******example: Miner I > arkonor vein has very little yeild (If any) but high waste of units in the Asteroid 10 units in the vein - 1 unti mined 9 units wasted ****Severe penalties for off crystal strip miners example: Veldspar mining crystal used on a Arkonor Vein will have a high waste factor *****High reward for correct crystals example: Arkonor crystal on an Arkonor Vein *Can target different veins on the same Asteroid simultaneously
Add reward to mining *Once a vein is used up a new vein may open up in the asteroid **possible better ores closer to the center of the asteroid **new types of super high yield ore - very rare spawn - think faction spawn for miners **more veins per rock the lower security space you get into
Better mining cycles *Have mining lasers charge up **Mining lasers start with lower yields close to the start of a cycle **mining amount grows until reaches optimal amount **Stays at optimal until lasers are deactivated - continues until next cycle unless shut down **More "collection" ticks - not just when the cycle ends
I think this would make a much more interesting experience. Afking would be a lot less profitable since you would need to target the veins themselves, and have the correct crystals. Stripping out just the most valuable ores in a belt would be impossible. Let me know what you all think!

I think that requiring all miners to pay attention to a single client in order to get even halfway decent yield would do absolutely terrible thinks to the mineral market.
Multiboxers pull in the vast majority of ore in the game. If you can't retain high efficiency while multiboxing, the total amount of minerals brought in would drop like a rock.
So while I'm somewhat sympathetic to mining being fairly boring, I'm nowhere near sympathetic enough to pay 3 bil for a carrier because the multibox miners stopped working. |

If it made life harder for multi boxers and made it to where corps and alliances value the miners then I would consider that a win. |

What about some trolly updates like
- Just remove the survey scanner
- Make range of mining lasers much shorter
- Make ore holds much smaller too
^^ Delicious goon ((tech nerf, siphon, drone assist, supercap)) tears.
Taking a wrecking ball to the futile hopes and broken dreams of skillless blobbers.

No need to troll. It is a very legitimate part of the game that has had no love. |

Do you mine?
The majority of miners I know complain about the mining mechanics, but when pressed they admit its a good system and miners actually make decent isk ATM.
You are content to be content. This is not a jedi mind trick, its just a game

As a miner, the only thing that I can complain about is the lack of diversity when it comes to mining. Combat players get hundreds of hulls and five different weapon types. Miners get 8 dedicated mining hulls and 2 dedicated support hulls (I don't consider haulers dedicated miner support), and only three "weapon" types (not counting specialty mining systems like ice and gas).
I would like to see the partial cycle system removed and changed to the same system as damage modules. when you try to stop it early it just finishes that cycle and ends. Combine this with additional ships that get barge/exhumer yield using standard mining lasers or drones would allow for additional ships to choose from.
In general the idea would be to have standard mining lasers with fast cycle times and low cycle yield that would be better at mining small asteroids but would require more attention. Barges/exhumers that have slow cycle times and large cycle yields that are better at mining large asteroids. And drone boats just for the fact that I personally love drones . |

@Zimmer - I do mine when I want to watch Netflix or I am otherwise distracted by something else. The isk is decent but the gameplay is extremely boring and repetitive with no change unless you get ganked. There is no reward feeling to it like getting a faction spawn or a good drop from a data/relic site.
@Sorra - Problem is they can add more hulls and more mining beams but the gameplay stays stagnant. Lock asteroid, sit and wait until asteroid dies or cargo hold is full. This has not ever changed but I feel it really needs to. |

That sounds incredibly boring, and is unrealistic.

I don't think you know what a vein is... |

Both a mining drone boat and mini-game would make it more oriented toward player skills (not skill book). Drone need management and a mini-game would make it no more afk able. Problem is a lot of people will no more be able to afk or multibox it, and so wil complain about price raises (without saying anything about incursions that is).

I don't think you know what a vein is...
A vein is a layer of ore between layers of rock .... So the idea would be once you drill through a vein, you may have access to a new vein of ore or multiple new veins until all veins are exhausted. One that could not be seen by the scanner before the first vein was completed allowing some surprise and to keep people from cherry picking asteroids. |

By the same argument, Missions require a mini-game. All you do in that is lock targets and hit F1, maybe a bit more frequently, but still the same process. And in missions its worse, since I can fit a ship with drones and just have to hit F once and watch them wipe out a whole mission with no interaction at all.

Missions are static and unchanging as well. The same mission will be almost the exact same each time you run it. They also need a change but that just isn't the topic I wanted to post ideas on at this time. I just wanted to select a single topic and discuss it with other people who gave their honest opinions and ideas. |

And incursions, anomalies, escalations, complexes etc etc etc...
OP, do you really want to gut the supply of lowends that badly? |

While I agree with that other topic as well, what I am trying to point out is that you set a dangerous precedence by insisting that mining requires a mini-game to complete. Once you start adjusting the gameplay in one area, you will have to adjust every similar area in a similar manner to keep the game balanced. |

I want it to be an active process, something more interesting and engaging. It will not gut anything, it will make mining more engaging and the market will change to accommodate the change. |

I agree that there should be something that requires more attention to mining. It needs to be something so people can't multi box 10 accounts at once. There should be a small increase in yield and ore hold so the ore prices don't rise to steeply, and the lack of multi boxers would increase an individual accounts profit. Players shouldn't have to run more accounts to make decent isk. They are at about the same risk as mission runners, if not more. |
