Hey folks!
I'm new to EVE but am really enjoying it so far. I've been playing at home on my laptop without any problem but when I try to play on my *ah hm!* work computer *cough! cough!* I'm experiencing a problem.
So I open up the launcher, log in, see the Client is loaded and ready at the bottom. The problem is when I click "Play". After about 30 secs I see a new EVE window open at the bottom of my screen. If I click this window at any point it changes to "Not Responding". All that's left to do is to force close it.
I've tried a few things: Launching from the Bin file, creating a shortcut and adding /triPlatform=dx9 /noconsole to the end of the target to the same result.
When I click on the cog in the top right of the launcher I can get in to the menu. In the Game Tab it says DirectX version used by the EVE client with DirectX 9 ghosted out in a box on the right. Not sure if this is right or not but this computer doesn't support DX11.
Any and all help appreciated. Thanks,
Richard |

I suggest getting your admin to play EVE and unblocking the ports.
I also suggest you rather work, because they WILL find out and they WILL fire you .........

Maybe you can't play EVE at work but you can always play EFT!

Yeah, it sounds like the issue isn't directx, but rather the fact that your company is probably blocking the IP ports that EVE needs to communicate with the server. They are probably logging attempted access, too, so my recommendation would be to uninstall the game, go back to work, and hope you don't get fired. |

Well it's just me and the boss that work here and I'm the go to guy about computer issues. Nothing as complicated as getting EVE Online working apparently |

Have a search through this forum. (It would be the better place to post for this sort of question, but trial accounts are restricted to posting in NCQA).

Sorry then. ^_^ I hope your company doesn't go bankrupt... ^_^

I'm not worried. The "Evil Empire" isn't going anywhere as long as computers exist. *cough* |

Not sure why you would say this, unless you are the guy's boss or work at his company and know it to be true. Everyone has different life situations and work environments. In the past I've been paid to sleep and paid to drink and go to strip clubs. You don't even know what this guy does for a living much less what his work environment is like so why are you trying to tell him what the rules are at his place of employment? |

OP the only suggestions that I have are check your direct X version and see if it is indeed 9 or if it's 11 and eve just does not recognize it or just try to update direct X.
Next step that I would do is to try the repair tool. Of course this is assuming that you have checked the minimum requirements of eve versus the system stats. Also if you barely make those requirements crank your settings way down.
If all else fails try waiting a couple minutes after windows first loads so eve is not trying to load while everything else is. It could be a time out issue with everything try to access a slow ass laptop HDD at once.
If it's a laptop try it at a different location on a home network to make sure it's not the network. |

Try validating the local game files via Steam. That works for me. |

Check for, and disable any proxy.
Probably the #1 cause of EVE problems is stupid proxies installed by malware or "firewall" products.

100% spot on! At work it's either super busy or super quiet. EVE would be for the quieter times. Also, in response to your 2nd post; I've tried everything you listed but I think I'm going to bring my laptop in and see if EVE will load. At least then I'll know if it's a network thing or a software thing.
Freya Sertan wrote:Try validating the local game files via Steam. That works for me.
Haven't tried the launching through Steam yet so that's definitely worth a shot
Steve Ronuken wrote:What happens if you try to launch eve directly? that's exefile.exe in the bin directory?
Exactly the same thing but without the launcher. An EVE box opens in task bar and just sits there. If I click it it says "not responding" and I have to force close

Another good suggestion. I'll post an update once I have one. Thanks everyone! |

at least that eliminates the launcher as an issue.

Holy $hit!!! The most obvious answer is sometimes the right one! It seems as though this heap of crap just about manages to scrap by most requirements:
CPU
Minimum: Intel Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz, AMD Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz You Have: 2.0 GHz
RAM
Minimum: XP (SP2) GÇô 1 GB / Vista GÇô 2.0 GB You Have: 2.1 GB
Free Disk Space
Minimum: 20 GB You Have: 22.2 GB
Minimum attributes of your Video Card
Required: 3D Yes --- You Have: No Required: Hardware T&L Yes --- You Have: No Required: IPixel Shader version 3.0 --- You Have: 2.0 Required: Vertex Shader version 3.0 --- You Have: 0.0 Required: Dedicated Video RAM 256 Mb --- You Have: 128 MB
I feel a little foolish I mean, I know the work computer isn't the latest pc off the shelf but it's not a relic either. Hopefully this thread will save someone else the embarassment. The moral of the story: Start at the start, check your system meets the basic requirements.
A big thanks to everyone who posted. I've heard (and have seen in-game) that the EVE community are a great crowd altogether. I'm only new but I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone |

I don't know if it is still in the launcher options, but you used to be able to select DirectX 9 vs. 11 |
