Well famous characters eh?
1. Ragnar ... he had a war and a magic hat named after him, what else can you say? Seriously he had a huge effect on Beta, was infamous in the early game, and then went on to provide the motivation for the most fun I've had in games for a long time. Bringing him down was like hunting the great white whale from Moby d-ick ;)
2. Stavros ... he stood for emperor and got podded, I disagreed with the majority of things he ever said, but he always had plenty to say and was sometimes pretty funny - always missed the point of alliances though and was an incorigable boaster about mOo exploits! (small e)
3. Morkt Drak ... he was a great opponent of the old VA, a good friend of the new NVA and knows the score, in and out of game - this man understands the importance of player led action and an independent press.
4. Sarkos ... he was (and is) a high profile roleplayer and alliance leader, and has stayed enthused with the game in thick and thin. Always a pleasure to talk to - Sarkos proves that being a roleplayer is not the same as being an impotent numpty with no in-game power.
5. Miso! ... she almost caused a revolt when she left, is always fun to read on forums, and always fun to talk to in-game, plus - she, naginata and reikoku have defined the "playing with cheap-ass ships for fun and creative mayhem" agenda in eve. Nobody else did more to debunk the "gotta-have-a-battleship-to-fight" nonsense.

Damn, you posted too soon Merdekka... I just found this thread but was going to add you...
Merdekka Radaen: Merdekka used to harass us back in Beta. We had no trouble keeping Spectral Armada and their patsys in line, but Merdekka and Acuna would give us hell. Merdekka's the reason I got into ECM in the first place.
I know there's been some fan-fiction about getting beat up by Merdekka, just don't remember who wrote it or where to find it...

Sigh....I dont get it, my top players would be based on, players who are true to the game and help make the game enjoyable.
Not players who either (A)troll the boards (B)Are pirates who pod for the sake of it (C)Just post all day on the forums.
My top 5 would be ppl most of you dont know, who dont go about posting 20 posts on the forums each day, ppl who joke around and help others in the game. Or those pirates who dont attack newbie frigates and only go for fair game or profitable endeavours.
They may not be the most famous ppl, wealthy or infamous and respected but they contribute more to the game than the ppl who always get voted for.

a megathron? lol! the only time I've ever encountered you was when I was hunting you down with Lecavar in a pair of Ravens. You 2 hid for about 5 hours until I went to bed and he podded you after you thought you could double-team him

The most famousest of hobbits would have to be Leeloo from Beta, even before the likes of Lord Zap, Setec and the others came along, Leeloo was the one everyone loved to hate. Leeloo almost reached the 1 billion isk bounty mark which is quite an achievement as far as imfamy goes. Leeloo was the anti-hero when the game was still in the late stages of beta.

Those who create content for the game by making maps, organizing information in databases for the public.
Those who make webpages dedicated to the game, the radio and news guys.
Those who help test/bug in chaos regularly and effectively.
The people who bother to make player made content for the game in the form of contests, player stories, player events etc.
The smart folks who digest, test, and disect the game mechanics, elements, gameplay etc. and publish it to the public for better understanding of how things work.
And most important, the people who bother to help others in positive and constructive ways.
Specially the new players.
These are the unnamed ones and these are the people I give much credit to.
and NOBODY has mentioned chribba yet?
