CCP Games is on GitHub! We've got a number of projects already available to the public, and more is on it's way. We've also got some details on documentation and licensing. If you're interested in finding out more, you should read the latest dev blog from CCP FoxFour with more details.

Awesome stuff. Love how progressive CCP has always been with their API access and documentation (within reason for an economics and intel focused game of course). Can't think of another company that does it better :) |

Did you happen to take a look at https://readme.io for docs?

For that he'd have had to put in a request to get the budget approved, which would have been an arse (I'm guessing, since it always is!). Since there was no guarantee anything would come of it, there's a real chance it would have been refused. |

I've never used Git Hub because it seemed too complicated for me to spend time figuring it out for something I don't really need to use. It looks like I might want to contribute some documentation at some point now though. Is there a simple 101 on this somewhere? And also, I have to install python and other software installed? This seems to be a bit of work for some text input doesn't it? I'm sure I'm missing something here of course but am I making it more complicated than it is or is this just how you use git hub?
Thanks

Do you need python?
Not really, but you won't be able to preview your edits exactly as they will appear in the final docs without it.
That said, it's standard markdown syntax, and the style isn't particularly different from what you'd get from any old markdown previewer. Here's a dead simple online one.
Really it depends how much you're going to do. I setup readthedocs (the system that generates the documentation pages from the markdown source files) as I was doing quite a lot, including working on the menu structure. If you want to start by trying a minor edit to something, then you should certainly be fine without it.
If on a mac or linux machine, you can pretty much just run the commands from the readme, on windows, it's going to be a little more effort to install python first.
On a related note: readthedocs seems to use pretty standard github flavoured markdown. GitHub have a tutorial here (there are many others available) |
