Seriously,
For $240 a year, what can EVE offer me?
I'm playing the demo and it seems like fun but hardly worth $19.95 a month. And as far as I can tell, there's no breakdown in price if I decide to purchase a quarter, half or full year.
So what makes EVE so expensive and why do you players think it is worth the price?

It's no more expensive than any other mmo, incuding not having to pay ú30-90 extra per year for expansion packs it's fair bit cheaper. Don't like it then don't pay. ----- [23:08:46] GM Fear > I am stuck as well [23:17:57] Sharkbait > so why ... you drag me here. thats just mean :( [23:18:03] GM Fear > hahahaha

Firstly, Welcome to EvE. I do hope you decide to stay and enjoy this wonferfull world.
Here are the current subscription rates:
Current subsciption plans available:
Europe Cost/month* Total cost* 1-month-plan Ç 14.95 Ç 14.95 3-month-plan Ç 12.95 Ç 38.85 6-month-plan Ç 11.95 Ç 71.70 12-month-plan Ç 10.95 Ç 131.40 * VAT included
Outside Europe Cost/month Total cost 1-month-plan $ 14.95 $ 14.95 3-month-plan $ 12.95 $ 38.85 6-month-plan $ 11.95 $ 71.70 12-month-plan Ç 10.95 $ 131.40
If you are in the USA, and pay $14.95 per month, the most you will pay is $168 There is no "demo" in eve, only trial accounts, everything you see and do is the full game. Although, full accounts have more access to skills / ships than the restrictions placed on trial accounts.
I have been playing EvE for 3 years and have loved every moment of it. I hope you feel the same way ___________________________ ~Jiekon

The best forums *****s. weekly lag and node crash's. Cute little IRC client with 3D ship possibly the best Support staff. (the One that reads the problem) Sever logs that show nothing. Client with more bugs in it then a hobo Y-fronts.
Jokes aside, it's one the best games I've played and i'll be here until they pull the plug. -------------------- SoonÖ Copyright CCP. I don't pay money to play this game, I pay to see how badly CCP screw it up. |

It's the best MMO out there.
It's one of the few to actually grasp the concept and make properly make something worthwhile from it, something that justifies a monthly sub. Oh Eve has its problems, mainly the state of the server for large fleet battles right now, but CCP continue to uphold their ideal of PvP based MMO and thank hell they do. - - - - - - - - - -

Edited by: Fortior on 29/10/2006 21:38:47 Strange... I only pay $179.40 per year. And I know it's possible to only pay $155.40 per year. The really cool people pay $143.40. And if you pay off CONCORD you can get away with $131.40 per year. Perhaps you have to pay more due to math deficiency?
For those who didn't pick it up, EVE is not $20 a month. Check your account details for the payment intervals. I don't want to discuss something with the basics not clarified.
That being said, EVE offers me waaaay more entertainment than most other things I do on my computer. The drama, teamwork, silly social stuff and so on. Compared to many other things the cost is totally worth it. As a college-student in Sweden I usually spend $40 whenever I go out partying/clubbing.
EDIT: Too bad my typing skillz suck so people respond before me saying the same things

when its not lagging, you basicly get the best gameplay experience you could buy for any money. but when it laggs, you get an overpriced IRC Client.

Edited by: Isstvan Myth on 29/10/2006 22:10:36 Hm. I musta missed something. I went to upgrade from a demo account to a subscription and the only option I had was 'extend trial' for $19.95
$12 to $14 a month is reasonable for a subscription.
I wonder why I'm not finding quarterly or annual payment options?
-= NOTE =-
This is the only option I have when I try to subscribe.
30 day game time period +Initial account registration $19.95 Please Note: You are signing up for a game subscription. Your credit card will be charged recurrently at the end of each game time period until you cancel the subscription. Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time from the account management website.

You get to laugh at the silly notion CCP uses hamsters to power their cluster, then cry when those poor little hamsters take a break and Eve crashes out... By the way.. no one has said YAY to no recent server crashes!

When I started eve I was just as unsure. After exchange rates, I can see the cost.
I have never looked back, and this game has allowed me to meet some really great people.
This game may feel withdrawn because you see only space ships, but the options open to you are vastly superior.
If you do not like Sci-fi, just imagine you are riding a dragon through the clouds, or whatever festish you have.

Expensive? Are you crazy?
A game that takes me 5-10 hours to beat costs 50 bucks.
For that same 50 bucks, I can get a few hundred hours of EVE.
That's a bargain.

That's what I love about MMOs. A lot of the good ones can be picked up for 30-40$, including expansions, and then they're usually 10-15$ to maintain.
Considering the amount of fun in these compared to a normal 50-60$ game, even in a crummy MMO, it's a deal.
Not to mention the addiction doesn't charge by the hour, so you save money on books, movies, other games, food, water, and any other things you might usually buy :D

Node crashes server deaths lag grief and whiners .. yes eve has it all however there is a damn good reason I and all of the others here are still playing eve even with its faults. Its simply the best mmo out there offering a gritty world wich is in contrast to the other mmo out there actualy hard to learn stay alive in and get somewhere untill you start to use your brain. The fact it has a built in calculator and more graphs then a wallstreet journal should point out something. If its nothing for you stop and dont pay a single cent if it IS your style your in for a hell of a ride ;D >----

You can also buy Eve Game Time Code and upgrade your account with it - thats even cheaper, no 19.95 fee, just price of GTC. Some GTC sellers are listed here https://secure.eve-online.com/etc.asp. Second one has 30 day code for $14.95.
