That's just like GCC ... it makes no sense whatsoever. Yes it could be good gameplay, they have to use the ships and Equipment thats available in the system and what the own themselves... Instead of buying in tradehubs, People need to build or get built what they need in their system.... if they have jumpclone, they could jump to a more equipped system if needed. In Null, it would be bad for the pvp guys, and a freaking goldrush for miners, pve and producers. People will need to adapt to the situsation... ofcourse their will be alot of complaining... from the usually choir of complainers :D and how would you build stuff, without the blueprint available in your system ? Forgive me Father, for I have taken OP for real for a sec.
If you dont have bp and the others in that system, neither got any bp's.... ure screwed... unless you can adapt to use salvaged equipment and be much more careful with the ships you got available.... if you cant adapt, ure screwed unless you got a JC and can settle in a another system.
The ingenuety of humans has no limit when it comes to adapt.
On the otherhand.... there is one thing that could support such apocalyptic plan from CCP.... they have some plans with humanbuilt gates =ƒÿë |

See, here's what I think is going to happen:
Drifters don't like DED/Concord doing autopsies on their people, so they made a show of force at the station in Yulai and jammed our news feeds for a while. Concord doesn't lay off so they jam out communications at the Concord station causing local to drop cluster wide. Concord increases power but not enough to provide communications to everyone they once did and the capsuleer empires in Nullsec will have to make due with delayed local or install communications repeaters in their space (new structures).
So now, Concord gets really pissed and attacks the Drifters with an armada thought to be able to wipe them out (a little hubris goes a long way). They fail to realize that the Drifters are far more powerful than they thought and even though they defeat them in this round, the Drifters escalate again by unleashing the weapon they used on Caroline's Star on the star in Yulai. This is the weapon that destroyed gate travel in 3 regions and will have similar effects here.
It is my belief that the weapon used to destroy the star sends a feedback pulse through all connected gates, shutting them down in a cascading fashion. This pulse propagates until there are no more connected gates. So, unfortunately, the weapon is much more devastating here because there are gate links everywhere in empire and we are not isolated like the Jove were.
So, now that local is permanently diminished, Concord headquarters destroyed, and most of the gate system offline, Concord is overwhelmed in the chaos and local authorities from the empires have to step in. At the same time, being controlled by the Drifters, Sleepers invade empire from numerous wormholes and begin to mop up Concord in the now isolated systems. They take heavy losses and never ultimately defeat the Concord forces, but Concord is now reduced to faction status and no longer perform the functions they once did.
The Aftermath:
With the gate system being down, the technicians living and working on them are scrambling to bring them back online with the help of the capsuleers trapped in system with them. The capsuleers provide raw materials from asteroids and planetary resources and provide protection from pirate and/or sleeper forces. The system is slowly re-established over the course of about a week. Unfortunately, since gate connections are random and given the state of crisis, any connection will do, and most gates don't lead to exactly where they did before, some even end up connecting to previously unknown systems. Meanwhile, capsuleers get around via wormholes, it's terribly random, but better than nothing.
With Concorde essentially destroyed, and with it system security status, the empires must control their space without them. Not being as infallible as Concorde, empire system security status is effectively cut in half unless the capsuleers of that system help out in its defense by coordinating with agents of the owning empire. Thus rises the time of dynamic sec status for empire systems aka Occupancy Empire. Those systems that have small populations will go down to their minimum and those with healthy populations will be able to raise their sec status to relatively high levels.
Having dealt with their masters' enemies, the Sleeper drones retreat back to w-space to deal with their capsuleer infestation. The Drifters go back to disassembling Jove tech for a time then disappear back to their own space that isn't on the map (yet).
Seeing the developing power vacuum, Sansha steps up his attacks in both frequency and power. With capsuleers busy helping get the gate system back online, he takes large swaths of territory. Eventually this territory becomes the New Sansha Nation.
Now free of the last vestiges of Concord control, the capsuleer empires in former Nullsec are now able to field any and all technology they can develop. This includes star gates. Eventually, they will connect those gates to the new space mentioned before. This space is where the Drifters call home and is both more terrible and more beautiful than anything known before.
And I'm spent! Sorry.... imagigasm...... |

Maybe that's what happened to Thera...
It was like the Jita of Jove space, then they got locked down and everyone and their bots got stuck in system and couldn't leave, complete anarchy till they self destructed it after they could no longer stand the depravity that is trade chat...

One can dream.
Could be even more dramatic.
Maybe drifters baddies are going to invade high sec NPC stations. ( They need human bodies for drifter production) After a gigantic space genocide .... surprise ..... Players will have to set up the "new high sec stations" by themselves.

Tongue in cheek answer: Why James315, of course!
Serious answer: That's what would be so cool about us being isolated. As long as we had a way out that we could achieve by working together, or prevent by working against. New leaders could emerge and people could become part of a local community by overcoming adversity. Conflicts could start over slights between two groups in a system. Maybe everyone in system forms up their own corp from the sense of community they feel, who knows!
It would be like when a natural disaster hits a neighborhood where people don't normally interact with each other. They suddenly look up and see the people they've been living right next to the whole time as people that they have to either get along with or protect themselves from, rather than just ignore.
Nishachara wrote: But this type of event would be cool, it couldeven give the possibility of new specific missions and stuff.. defend the gate until *insert techno babble* is online, get one million units of trit to the gate so they can repiar *insert techno babble*... rewards could be concord LP for pilots involved and it could be on the basis of "first gets reward" ..pvp players also coulddisrupt those activites maybe even in the service of some opposing force.. or ( in low ..null ) they could repiar the gate and own it as a pos or a station ( with taxing the gate use )... Newer players could becatered that in new player systems those sort of tasks are easier and require less...etc etc.. All in all it could be a 6 month long event until new eden gets back upon its feet and it could be fun ^^
Yeah, that's pretty much how I see it. Everyone in New Eden would have to work to bring things back to normal and everyone would have a purpose, newbie and bittervet alike. We just need the catalyst.

If said apocalypse is going to happen, I just hope that it is a very sudden thing that happens, with no more than maybe 24 hours notice. I can see people stockpiling and entire corps getting to systems in order to establish dominance. Now, if they set it up so that the spread of the outages was slow spreading, that could make for some interesting strategery. |
