Dear CCP,
I am not sure where to post this so I post it here.
I wonder do CCP have any plans in future, to correct some physics in New Eden?
Let says like beam laser guns..... (can apply to many other weapons)
laser suppose to travel in straight line...
So if I open fire on ship A, but actually ship B is direct in front of ship A "blocking", the beam should hit ship B instead of ship A. But currently the beam somehow "band" or "curve" so it will hit the ship A behind instead of ship B.
I know very well as a programmer that, this kind of mechanism will bring a very heavy burden to the server and calculation.
But if this kind of "method" is implement, first it will be more logic as it fit the law of physic, second, let say in a fleet fight, a BS can really take "cover" for a logistic ship by doing that.
Can I know the opinion of CCP about this suggestion?
Thank you very much
Sincerely, Aya Mikagi |

Realistic physics in space combat is the antithesis of fun gameplay.
If you wanted actual realism, line-of-sight weapons would not be used since you would never be able to hit anything and you would always be outranged by the single weapon system that works: missiles (also drones, but they are just a different type of missile).

If you want realism, dump "warp drive active", the almighty duo of web/scram, rail guns that don't blow themselves apart after two uses, lasers (the amplifiers of which would be as large as the ships themselves)...oooh, how long is this list, the entirety of the market listing?
No wait. Livestock. Exotic dancers...homeless...marines... Imagine auto cannons that don't shove your ship in the opposite direction you're firing!
Okay, dump EVE. Play farming on Facebook?

Sincerely, Aya Mikagi This is never going to change. As a programmer, as you say, you should know that already.
There is no way they are going to add more code which has to be calculated ... ... for every single turret fired ... ... checked against every single ship on the path.
At least assuming basic RaySphere intersection.
Even if they traverse an octree to cull out the majority of ships ... ... it's complete madness to do this.
So ... save CCPs time and accept that this would be completely batshit crazy to implement. People love their fleetfights with several thousand participants. This would cut it down to a fraction.

The obvious solution is to wipe them out and make sure they don't come back.

Hm... seems both are correct?
But there is no "a space" ... ... so how can space be A liquid?
Saying space is fluid seems wrong as well.
Someone help me out!

Line of sight mechanics would be cool, but they would be the mother of all bitches to programme in now (both in actual coding, and the needed reworking of ship collision spheres), and it would hammer in a ton more battle-processing, and render a sensibility restriction on battle sizes, and I love my massive battles too much to give them up
Plus, its worth pointing out that a lot of line-of-sight supporters profess it to limit the affects of focus-firing and alpha-strike, but if (in the impossible ideal world) it was possible to code, it would have to apply across the board - ECM, remote rep, cap-pressure and support, everything, to prevent it becoming a game of stalemates (Heh, I personally love the idea of an ally accidentally passing in front of a tackler and both breaking a tackle and breifly scramming himself). |

I can pictures ships being flung in odd direction as the recoil of their weapon systems is applied to the ship. If a battleship gets rocked by it's gun while sitting in water, picture the results of a ship "floating" in empty space.
You can't hold a scram on an arty boat if it can shoot it's way out of your range without it's propulsion system. |

CCP stated back in Odyssey they could turn-on the code to force on-grid boosting, but it would melt the servers.
What do you think line-of-sight calculation for every volley would do?

Water is liquid. And, not surprisingly, water is a liquid without a smell or color (at standard ambient temperature and pressure, tht is).

Something can be light and still pretty resistant to being torn to pieces but it won't stop it from "drifting" in the opposite direction from what it was shooting.
Aim those 1400mm toward your enemy with a tornado and your first volley surely send you out of point range. |

I would settle for simply ship A is shot at, but ship B is in front of it, so ship B gets hit.
