Hey all o/
How do skins work, exactly, when regarding a POS and Ship Maintenance Array?

No no, I mean if I store a ship that is skinned, but I still have the skin 'installed' in my head, is the next ship I board also going to skin that ship, even if it wasn't originally mine?

when you board the new ship, if you have a SKIN for that ship, then it should be on the ship fitting screen on the left. Expand it and it should say available skin. |

Does the skin work for both the tier 1 and tier 2 versions of the hull? |

it means you can fly the ships that have a permanent skin with no fear of losing the skin. |

Technically when CCP created the new skin system they reduced the value of ship skins because now they are not lost. Any skin license you own, you can apply over and over to every ship of that hull type that you fly.
I like the new skin system. The only problem I see so far is that there aren't enough of them. lol. But I think CCP will see this as a good income generator and will make more. They need more corporation specific options for both ship skins and clothing.
Btw, who exactly is "Ore Development"? Because I was curious after I saw the ship skin and tried to look up the corporation. Only I think I was only able to find a player corp by that name. |

I knew who ORE was. "Outer Ring Escavations". However if you try to look up the corporation "Outer Ring Development" in-game, it doesn't show up. I tried to look up an agent for them and there was none. I did a corp search and saw no NPC corp listed. Maybe I didn't search correctly. |

Oh, I see. So any ship that I board becomes skinned, but if I leave it it does not.
That's.. confusing. So if I board say, a Catalyst, and it becomes Intaki Syndicate Catalyst, if I lose it, what shows up on the lossmail?

SKINs won't show on killmails now, but CCP has given signs they have ways to make SKINs appear on killmails retroactively later on. |

Skins work like so:
Step 1) Aquire SKIN (various methods). It is an item in game, just like any other item. It can be bought and sold on the market, carried in cargo, destroyed or dropped on ship destruction, etc. As an item, it has no effect on anything.
Step 2) Apply SKIN. The skin is now permanently tied to your character. Let's go with the "Sebiestor" SKIN for the Thrasher as an example. Once applied, every Thrasher you get in will have the option to be skinned with the "Sebiestor" paint job. When you leave that Thrasher, it reverts back to being a regular run of the mill Thrasher again, not a "Sebiestor" Thrasher. Once a SKIN has been applied to a character, it can not be removed or reverted back to an in game item. They are one time use only, and only affect one character once applied.

Interesting. So they've shifted the possession of skins from an asset to something that cannot be lost once consumed. Okay, thanks for all your answers.

In a way, it is "lost" from the game the second you apply it, because you remove the ability to trade it. So very rare skins, if not applied, will only become more rare and expensive and when all of them are applied, it will be "gone" from the game, as an item.
I think this is a great way of doing it, especially for collector editions and such, since nobody had the guts to actually fly a special edition ship before, nobody saw them, but now they will see them.
So you need to make a choice, do i use this rare skin myself or do i hang on to it for a year or two, and try to sell it?
