No idea if this is already in the plans, but I think it would be pretty neat to have the ability to spawn solo (or with a team) in a 'map' and be able to practice your flying, maneuvers, or even just to familiarize yourself with the map without having to worry about an opposing team or time limits (are rounds timed?).
It might also be a pretty neat way to easily introduce someone to VR, and then let them lose with the wolves.

Ideally we want the story to be a good place to begin and learn the game (and also a good place to introduce someone to VR), we're also planning to let you practice with different ships and loadouts so you can learn how different abilities work before taking them into battle against other players :) |

Would we be able to host invite only matches? |

Reaaaallly looking forward to the story part. I remember very fondly games like x-wing, tie-fighter, Freespace, etc,etc...it would be aweomse to have campaigns expanding upon the EVE lore, even if just a fraction of the size of the ones found in the games I mentioned (I do know the focus is still esports)
That being said, I still would love the ability to have freeflight / exploration of the levels without the usual constraints of a match. Or at the very least, like 1Robert mentioned, a private match without full-teams requirements :)

I agree. I've always wanted to have more of a ability to participate in the story of EvE. That's one reason I love the Epic Arcs, and have always wanted more. |

I've been advocating a yacht mode on behalf of my mother, who isn't really into all the shooting and exploding but would love to fly through and experience the vistas that the Valkyrie team are creating. |

I would like to support the idea for some level of free roam ability, for a number of reasons inculding but not limited to.
- Studying the maps we will be playing on, looking for good ambush sites or escape routes, basically just studying the environment and how i can use it to my advantage;
- Practicing manouvers, this might be close fly bys or threading the needle on environmental objects;
- testing out and analysing new fighter fits. this is particularly useful if the training room, free roam allows for you to have a friend along who you can do a 1v1 dual with.
One of the other reasons is one that IMHO would be very beneficial to CCP, it would allow us to get our friends to try it out, when you combine the cost of a head-set, and whatever upgrades are required to meet the quite high oculus rift requirements, thats some serious cash people are going to have to part with and not everyone one is going to be able to shell out for initially, by giving players a easy way to let our friends test it on our accounts, we basically become a network of salesmen for you.
Now i understand CCP Starbug said that the storylines is where people will learn VR and all the rest, but how long is the storyline, is it repeatable? if i am halfway through the storyline and my friend comes over, does he have to continue my storyline, and what of the content i miss out on because he continued it, or can he start a storyline of his own? will his storyline overwrite mine? will i lose my progress?
I can't count the number of games i bought in my childhood because i had a go of it at a friend house first. So CCP help us help you, give use something like a free roam ability, and with the storyline, chapter-ise it. so we can re-play chapters of it etc.

Co-op could help, but naturally that's requires either two VR capable computers or network connectivity.
There's a whole world of possibility when you consider craft with more than one crew, e.g. buddy controlling a bunch of turrets or whatever. |
