A few of you may remember my thread which detailed my Nereus baiting adventures. Upon joining the ranks of the Tuskers, baiting has sadly become a lot harder for me. Forced to rethink my often puerile combat techniques, I have begun to move into bigger and more capable combat vessels.
I have wanted to fly battleships for a while now, it is only recently though that I felt comfortable enough in my skill set to take some for a ride. Last night I took out my second Battleship for a long roam and had a fantastic run of luck. This was entirely in contrast to my previous attempt, which ended in abject misery as I looked up at the pointy end of Overload everything bombers...Such is Eve.
Dominix Loss Mail
Moving swiftly onward I enjoy writing and thought some of you may also enjoy reading what I have documented below.
A Roam IGÇÖll Remember
I undocked the elaborately named GÇ£DomiGÇ¥ deep in Minmatar faction warfare. The goal was to reach Amarr faction warfare, to begin the nightGÇÖs escapades with my friend in his Raven class battleship. My ever diligent scout forwarded me the location of a nice chain of wormholes, which allowed me to bypass the more sweltering areas. As a result of this the trip down remained largely uneventful.
Arriving in Kamela with some time to kill I had my scout pop into Sosala. With a deranged grin he reported a small gate camp that consisted of a Vexor, Omen, Confessor, Hyena and two Exequrors. I promptly undocked the potato, jumped the gate and aligned out waiting for them to engage. They did with gusto and as fast as my lock speed would allow, I staggered two heavy neuts on an Exequror whilst simultaneously putting DPS on the Vexor. He melted quicker than I could have hoped and I switched DPS to the Exequror, who was not receiving neut treatment. Following his friends example he also dropped like a sack of excrement and I promptly switched across to the final Exequror. I was only too happy to oblige his apparent determination to join his friends in egg land, and after a short while he did just that.
It was at this point the Omen and Confessor left grid. Casually perusing the wrecks around me as I aligned out, I raised a quizzical eyebrow at an elite frigate wreck. The remains as it turned out of a proud Hyena who refused to leave grid under sustained gate fire, diligently performing his duty to the end.

My friendly neighborhood Capsuleer at this point, let me know his Raven was ready and was a mere 6 Jumps out. So off the scout went dancing merrily into the void with his faithful spud in tow.
The journey over was quiet. Fortunately my friendly Raven decided to keep me well entertained on long range communications, letting forth frankly majestic and colorful displays of swearing in a tireless attempt to catch a Drake. As any wise pilot knows the Drake, is always bait. His reluctance to leave system confirmed our suspicions, and I held on gate awaiting his backup.
GÇ£A Myrmidons landing!GÇ¥ Quoth the Raven. I could tell he was smiling even across the vacuum of space. I jumped and warped to assist as another Myrmidon appeared on long range scans.
To his credit, the Myrmidon tanked our combined DPS along with three heavy energy neutralisers, with a skilful and savage ferocity before succumbing. The drake was next for the grinder and we split points to ensure nothing escaped. It was a hollow victory, we expected more reinforcements and frankly I was panged with guilt as they were totally overwhelmed.
Even though one of them had the chance to save himself, they all committed with an honor so rarely found new Eden, earning our respect for what little it is worth.

Whilst we were fully immersed in hauling their carcasses back to station, as well as sorting through any useful cap charges and ammo, an Orca popped up on scan.
GÇ£At a POS no doubtGÇ¥ I arrogantly muttered, foolishly paying it little more attention. Scouts were sent forward to decide our next route, their heads almost snapped off swiveling round as they passed the space whale on gate.
Long before I had even suggested we give chase, the Magpie (read Raven) was enroute gleefully chasing his shiny target. The much faster scouts kept good tabs on his progress towards the grave and noted he was about to jump into Huola. As he jumped we feared he would reach the safety of high security space before we could reach him. Three Amarr Navy Tristans however had other ideas, they kept points on him long enough for us to jump through. With all the grace and agility that a space potato can muster I pushed him off gate. Rapid heavy missiles and heavy drones tore him asunder. Thanking the Tristans the only way we know how (with fire and brimstone) we killed what else we could and warped off to station.

Before departing Huola in search of further pastures green, we took the time to assess our cargo holds. The poaching of the great space whale and other skirmishes had put a reasonable dent in our stocks of ammunition and capacitor boosters. A scout was poked awake from his slumber and he begrudgingly trudged off to the trade hub of Amarr, upon his return we excitedly opened our presents and undocked once more into the black.
It was at this point we were joined by a Tuskers Svipul, who became our eyes and ears as well as another set of pointy teeth. This also had the added benefit of letting our tired scouts have a much deserved break. It was quite late at this point and the allure of a warm cup of hot chocolate and a bed time story was in our minds, but we continued on unabated.
Not 5 minutes later an animated crackle over our communication network, confirmed a smattering of frigates supporting two Cyclone class battlecruisers, loitering with malicious intent on a medium plex. Our Raven with his normal jubilant exuberance jumped into the fray to join the Svipul who was already taking his pound of flesh. My beautiful Tuber held on gate before jumping to see what all the commotion was about when points were called. The first Cyclone dropped under overwhelming DPS before I even landed on grid and the other followed in kind. The 4-5 frigates fled as the Svipul turned his blood shot eyes on them and gave chase.
Another overwhelming fight for our opponents, but given an inch people will invariably take a mile. Not to mention there is always a bigger fish in the vast ocean of New Eden and whilst our luck held for now, it would not foreverGǪ
Cyclone 1: https://zkillboard.com/kill/46310018/ Cyclone 2: https://zkillboard.com/kill/46310034/
Onward we trudged and scared a Rattlesnake, Ishtar and N Auguror out of a 5/10 DED site. Sadly they knew how to use D-Scan and made haste as our bloodthirsty Svipul landed. The N Aug however possessed by some true grit or incurable madness decided to warp to a Large plex and engage our Svipul, who quickly made short work of him.
A few systems over we also encountered a Navy Omen who confidently sat inside a medium plex. We exhausted ourselves fruitlessly in attempts to push each other through the acceleration gates, deciding a resulting diet was a good idea. After some quite rude abuse in local our Svipul popped inside to defend our honor and send him on his way.
N Aug: https://zkillboard.com/kill/46310367/ N Omen: https://zkillboard.com/kill/46310895/
Tiredness crept through our veins but we decided on a few more jumps before we turned in for the night. It was upon jumping into Iesa that our jaws dropped at the resulting D-Scan. A nightmare was somewhere in space and most certainly not at a station.
Our minds raced with the possibilities, dead space anomalies were checked, plexes scouted and finally combat probes dropped, to ascertain his location. Nothing, he was warping around too much to catch him.
Suddenly I hit him on a 5 degree scan at an old abandoned outpost. The Svipul hurtled through space as we discussed the fact this was likely bait. Our normally gracious Svipul closed to get tackle cursing at the recently imposed Concord speed limit. Fortunately the Nightmare was tackled none the same and we warped our lumbering battleships into glory or doom.
Fate as it turns out had played us another lucky card. The nightmare held briefly but the neutralisers did their job and sucked his capacitor dry. No support ever came.
Nightmare: https://zkillboard.com/kill/46311097/
We finally turned in for the night, agreeing to head out the next evening to meet our maker. But that is a story for another time. |

Before I threw myself into the comforting embrace of the mighty space potatoGÇÖs leather recliner, I took a moment to recall the previous nightGÇÖs efforts. They came to me awash with a mixture of feelings, on the one hand I was satisfied with the carnage my vessel had wrought, on the other I knew all good things must end. I was panged by a sudden sadness as I realised that tonight we may part, never to see each other again amongst the black.
You see whilst wise Capsuleers view ships as expendable, they would do well to remember that individually they deserve our respect. Tirelessly they offer their lives, shielding us from the harshness of space and asking for little more than to be fed with ammo, drones and cap boosters. We watch in awe as everyday they forge stories of victory or defeat, often burning brighter than the many suns of New Eden, before we invariably extinguish them in fire. All too easily we forget the individual trials and tribulations they endure to the ravages of time, our only ongoing memory to their boundless exploits a cold calculation of monetary cost.
Undeterred and thankful for his service, I called for GÇ£DomiGÇ¥ to begin the undocking process. Flanked by my ever faithful Raven and joined by a stalwart Typhoon, we warped off to once more together to wander aimlessly amongst the stars.
Our forward scout had reported heavy gang activity all around the neighboring Amarr area. Disliking the odds we requested a wormhole to be found to a more palatable area, and soon one was plotted which would take us to infamous Black Rise cluster. As is often the case the grass is rarely greener, and we soon found ourselves preparing to fight a twenty strong gang of destroyers.
They landed like a swarm of locus and our Typhoon felt the full brunt of sustained and co-ordinated fire. The initial Alpha volley proved too much for his active tank and he succumbed, his lower resist profile than that of our Raven proving to be his downfall. Furious as we watched our friend envelop in blinding light we began tearing thrashers off field, only slowed by our struggle to lock onto their low signature radiuses.
Quickly losing count of the Thrashers that we left smouldering before us it was not long before they warped off to regroup. We made a decision at this point to remain on gate as all of the points dropped of us, defiant to the risk. Fresh destroyers shortly swarmed in alongside logistic repair ships to sustain the larger vessels now being thrust upon us.
Like a bastion of strength in the darkness the Ravens tank held against the onslaught and soon beady eyes turned to my Dominix. They tested his tank and found it wanting. The armour buffer held well enough bolstered by the ancillary repair that worked tirelessly to mend the incoming fire. But it was a mere matter of time before the inevitable core breach.
Opening communications I informed the Raven I would not last much longer and he informed me he had a small window of opportunity to leave grid.
GÇ£Agreed get out if you can, IGÇÖll hold them offGÇ¥ His micro warp drive spooled up and I grinned as his ship flew through the twilight to safety, leaving me alone to my fate.
The sound of artillery rounds cascading violently against the reinforced steel plating grew louder, increasing to a roaring crescendo. Alarms screamed as the proud battleships armour failed and rounds streamed onto the hull directly, the end was near and i had but a moment to say a parting word.

I had actually posted the requisition form for the new Dominix a few weeks back. It was however only a few days ago that a member of secure commerce commission contacted me. Spitting down the comms link he flat out refused to believe that a space Badger could cause GÇ£that kind of damageGÇ¥ and that it "looked like artillery fire to him". My counter point was that having never met a space Badger he was unqualified to refuse my application.
Content with my blatant insurance fraud I sipped my coffee and traced the mechanics slow shuffling across the space port, keys in hand he eyed me suspiciously before handing them over. Happily undocking I plotted a course over to Sosala and crashed through a small instant lock Svipul gate camp that scattered on arrival.
My directional scan indicated a hurricane undocking so I warped over to check it out at the station. A quick head count revealed they only had 3 members of their corp in local. I watched them undock a Vigilant and Svipul to join the Hurricane and decided to take the engagement. It was at this point I shivered as a large shadow fell over the Dominix, caused as it turns out by a Moros class Dreadnought. Like a child caught with his hand in the cookie jar, I pulled damage in the hope of re docking. As the first volley tore through my armor I frantically dialed the secure commerce commission.

I think that Dominix fit is the best solo armor brawler you can squeeze out of it all things considered. It boasts close to 150,000 ehp with mid grade glaves and gains 50,000 ehp after 8 ancil cycles, with a high chance of getting a reload. The merits of a reactive armor hardener instead of the 2nd EANM could be definitely be argued successfully though. |

GÇ£Stupid Secure commerceGÇ¥ I muttered to myself as I deposited the Interstellar credits for a new Dominix. They had not bought the story of how a space Duck had obliterated my 100 ton battleship in a GÇ£devastating and mighty single peckGÇ¥ and thus I was left to pick up the bill.
The recycled air inside the station was stifling, filled with sparks and the ring of metal on metal which further aggravate my foul mood. Yet as I surveyed the triple lined steel bulkheads being welded snugly underneath the original factory armour plating, I had to give a wry smile. Such was the absurdity of forgoing the conventional tanking mechanics in favour of the insane.
GÇ£Looking good lads letGÇÖs throw on some transverse bulkheads and be done with itGÇ¥
My caffeine fuelled scout was already out scouring the verse and reporting back some interesting findings as I slithered out of the docking port. Destination set for Kurnainen I hurtled through space to forge a story new.
I only got as far as Kourmonen before I had an Interceptor orbiting me menacingly. Prodding some Acolytes into space I waited for him to start his ancillary armor repairer before neutralising his capacitor. He made a brief and futile attempt to align out before the drones finished the job.
Malediction - https://zkillboard.com/kill/47083172/
I carried onward and soon found myself tackled by a Federation navy comet in Sosan. D-Scan was reporting 3-4 more frigates so I waited before eviscerating him. A few Navy Slicers and a Tristan landed so I gutted the comet in scram range and aligned out. Pausing momentarily I sat and waited to see what other meals they would lay before me.
A Navy Omen joined the fray at range and I made some unquestionably wondrous displays of agility and speed in an attempt to force him within neutraliser range. Failing miserably and knowing I would be unable to secure the kill without a scram on him, I called for one final directional scan report before activating my Micro Jump Drive. A Harbinger Navy Issue was noted to be closing fast and landed 80km off my starboard bow.
"Align to him quick and fire up the jump drive" Propelled through space by technical space wizardry I landed well within heavy neutraliser range. Setting to work I put his engines and weapon systems offline in short order and It was now a race against time with the ONI, two slicers and a tristan applying solid damage to my hull buffer. Thankfully the Harbinger exploded whilst I still had 20% hull integrity remaining. Aligning out I fired up the micro jump drive and hastened into the shadows of space to fight another day.

For a while now, I think since the warp changes, people are saying that T1 BS in solo/small gang PVP is "practically dead".

GÇ£Sir, your ship is on fireGÇ¥
Conceding his point I handed over the money and waited patiently for the repairs to finish. Thankfully they did not take long and as my fearless scout was mumbling something about a Tornado on scan in the neighboring system, so I stumbled out once more into void. I ended up catching him red handed at an Amarr FW mission site and my flight of heavy drones dismantled him with ruthless efficiency.
Tornado: https://zkillboard.com/kill/47126900/
Bumbling back to Kourmounen I chanced across another Tuskers pilot who was putting his newly concocted artillery Scythe Fleet Issue through its paces. I opened up a communication link and was met with hysterical laughter as he called out seemingly arbitrary numbers in the low thousands. At first I thought space had finally addled his mind but it was actually the damage a poor Federation Navy Comet was enjoying.
We formed up a rag tag fleet and were joined by another Tuskers member who was out causing grief in his Malediction. As we sat around regaling each other with stories of our nights solo endeavors, a Dominix Navy Issue popped up on directional scan.
GÇ£HeGÇÖs landed 90km off meGÇ¥
I aligned ready to use my jump drive but soon found myself webbed and scrammed, he had beaten me to the punch with his own jump drive and the brawl was on. My capacitor reserves dumped as he fired up 4 heavy energy neutralisers. Activating my capacitor booster I staggered my own neutralisers back at him and called for our interceptor to hold point, whilst I wrestled to win the capacitor war. I watched as he struggled to maintain his modules and they fell off one by one, the extra time taken to stagger mine had done the job. I regained point not a moment too soon as the enemy Dominix erased our malediction from the sky.
GÇ£This is going to be a close one, if I go down send him to hell with meGÇ¥
Our structure tanks held neck and neck with barely a percent between them, his higher ehp value making up for our higher dps. As we approached the end a neutral Talwar landed on grid and fired a single whoring volley into our foe before taking it on himself to kill Geckos. It turned out that some Talwars just want to watch the world burn and we ignored his religious crusade to rid the world of the Gecko menace.
It was as I approached 5% structure our foe finally succumbed. We breathed a sigh of relief as we looted our formidable enemy and thanked him for an excellent fight.

We formed up a rag tag fleet and were joined by another Tuskers member who was out causing grief in his Malediction. As we sat around regaling each other with stories of our nights solo endeavors, a Dominix Navy Issue popped up on directional scan. GÇ£HeGÇÖs landed 90km off meGÇ¥ I aligned ready to use my jump drive but soon found myself webbed and scrammed, he had beaten me to the punch with his own jump drive and the brawl was on. GÇ£This is going to be a close one, if I go down send him to hell with meGÇ¥ Our structure tanks held neck and neck with barely a percent between them, his higher ehp value making up for our higher dps. "Not like this, not like this." I muttered to myself as I reflected upon the events that had led to my latest predicament. I had taken a fight against a group of assorted Frigates and Cruisers, the idea being to destroy the Vagabond they had on field and warp away into the sunset. However try as I might he continually slipped through my grubby palms and thus I had decided to micro jump away to safety.
Aligning out, I fired the micro warp drive and hopped 100km away from the blood hungry gang. "Warp Drive active" reverberated throughout the ship and I threw myself back in my recliner happy to be alive. It quickly became apparent though that the on board navigational computer was on the fritz, as my warp drive was far from active. I swore under my breath as a Navy Slicer regained point and I gave the order for drones to be released once more.
I set to work taking as many of them with me as I could before my hull gave way to the storm of incoming fire. A piteous way to go for such a proud vessel but it had served me well and died with its head held high.

It is a quiet Friday evening in New Eden. You have recently purchased, taken delivery and had assembled a glorious shield Dominix in the system of Dastryn.
You sit and reflect over a beer how far we have come as a race. Long has it been since we stripped mortality of power, those with the pockets deep enough now freely traverse the stars embracing eternity. So in this infinite verse where all is possible, what does one do with the time given? The answer is simple and yet elegant.
You go bait EvE University into a fightGǪ
Jumping into Uphallant I took note of the 10-15 pilots in local and made a quick assessment on the best way to bait them into an engagement. I chose to warp to a besieged covert research facility and begun to dispatch the MorduGÇÖs legion vessels I found there. As I cleared the first wave a further 3 battleships and two cruisers were sent in and I was quickly webbed and long pointed.
It was at this point a curious Interceptor warped into the fray bearing the EvE University insignia. A short ranged D-Scan reported a Cynabal, VNI, Thorax, Caracal and Corax (mainly to keep morale up I assume) fast approaching. The Malediction added another warp disruptor to my already heavily pointed Dominix whilst I continued to grind down the Mordu to shake off the stasis webifiers slowing my movement. My drones had become primary for the University group and a valiant Ogre was lost before it could reach the safety of my drone bay.
Freedom was soon restored to my engines and I turned narrowed eyes on the group who had so callously destroyed my drone. The Corax was first and exploded the moment my drones hit their first volley. I quickly overheated my MWD and drew close enough to the VNI that I could smell his fear before I dropped drones and activated my neutron blasters. Twelve hundred DPS takes a terrible toll against T1 resist profiles and he lasted seconds against the onslaught.
Sights set on the malediction I pulsed my heavy neutraliser and heated my MWD once more, catching him briefly with a heated scram before erasing him from the melee. They turned to flee but the Thorax was too slow and joined his brethren.

A shield Dominix that can tank a Mordus site and players simultaneously? I'd like to see that fit. |

Notes: Invul can be swapped out for another cap booster if you are expecting more than 2 heavy neuts or a Curse etc. Lack of web is an issue with this setup. Does just shy of 1200 dps with antimatter. Obviously run with Crystals/Blue pill.
