I have a kill right on me and would like to know when I get killed (by a NPC for example or by accepting a duel) without anyone activating the kill right will that kill right go away or should it be activated first ?

Hello Julx,
The kill right will go away if one of these three things happens.
1) The person who owns the kill right activates the right kills you anywhere (including empire hi-sec) 2) The person who owns the kill right activates the option to sell the kill right and then they kill you 3) The timer on the kill right expires.

If the kill right has been activated, anything or anybody that kills you after that within the 15 minute suspect timer will remove the kill right, including NPCs.
The only way it will be removed without activating it is if the 30 day timer runs out.

Also, the kill right doesn't do anything other than give you the suspect flag (Concord doesn't come if anyone shoots you). It won't warp scramble you, won't webify you, won't do any damage to you. You CAN run away / to a safe spot and wait for the 15 minutes to expire.
Most people aren't actually prepared to properly kill someone when they activate the kill right on them. Though some are.
Finally, once anyone shoots you, you have a limited engagement flag, meaning you can shoot back, tackle them, and kill them, in "self defense."

Bold this, underline it, and italicize it in your memory.
Anyone that's gotten a kill right on them got it by being willing to take the CONCORD smackdown to pvp in highsec. Ergo, even if they're in high-sec (the usual reason to invoke the right) there's a good chance that they're set up to actually fight you.
Which, don't get me wrong, is great. One sided fights are hilarious, but not necessarily _fun_. You need to be aware of it, though. If you see an invokable kill right, work out where the person is and if they have backup that might suicide you, grab a PvP ship with a PvP fit, THEN go after them. Don't just be like "ah, ha, I have license to shoot you in high sec, feel the wrath of my mission boat!"
(Honestly, I tend to leave people in high alone unless they annoy me, and usually the ones that annoy me aren't the actual PvPers. So I don't invoke much, if I'm typical then OP is probably relatively safe.) |
