Would like to test Vivox, but I can't get into it at all. All I get is a bunch of "Error logging into voice chat please try again" messages.
DX is fully up to date, and I've even repatched from Tranq client.
I'm putting in a bug report with attached log server info as well as this post.

The Error's don't mean anything... forget they exist. Often times the first time you login and join audio after patching the client you will have to relog before your join audio works properly. Try reloging and you should be set.
Already tried that. Gave no joy.

Edited by: Elaron on 17/11/2006 13:14:32 I'm disinclined to shell out for it unless I can actually get it to work. Two nights I have tried it, across two versions of the client, and nothing.
Some more documentation from CCP about how it works and transmits the voice and login information would help with troubleshooting - after all, I can't even reliably see who is in voice coms, even after relogging, completely nuking my cache directory (yes, prefs and all), leaving and rejoining the channel etc.
I really don't want to have to start digging around with packet analysers. I do enough of that at work.

Still can't join voice. Another bug report with DXDiag and logserver capture submitted.

Personally, the cost is pretty trivial. I'll merrily pay for it, and I dare say quite a few people would be willing to. That is, if I get value for money (ie I can get it to work and there'll be people to talk to). To achieve this, there are significant technical and community issues that need to be at least examined, preferably overcome:
1) Quite a few people are having problems getting it to work at all. People running EVE under Windows 2000 appear to be completely out of luck because a Windows DLL lacks functionality compared to its counterpart in Windows XP.
2) Not everyone does want to pay for it, which will cause fragmentation of the community. Do Alliances force people to pay? On top of that, how is the charge to be levied? Separately? What about people who only use time cards to play, or have no credit card? Will they have a GTC-like option, or will they be forced to do without?
Revelations is only a few days away and so far there has been a disturbingly small amount said about Vivox by the devs, and almost nothing on the above issues - some of them quite significant. I'd rather see the feature pushed back to Kali 2 than have the problematic implementation we have now.

I noticed that as well. One can only surmise that CCP believes that it's not ready for prime-time at the moment. Which, to be fair, it wasn't.

Originally by: Nate D We will not see the voice chat feature on the 28th of November with the rest of Kali 1.
Originally by: kieron Vivox voice chat will be added on its own in a forthcoming patch in December. This patch will be seperate from the second part of Revelations.
I like this because haha who knows what improvements they will make before it goes live! And maybe they'll fix some bugs too! :-P

Like hopefully it'll work for those players who couldn't get it to work at all! EG Win2000 users, random other people...
