Edited by: Ionstream on 06/11/2006 10:37:26 I have the new build of kali and i'm running windows vista RC1 build 5600 and just as i log into eve i get to see my ship for about 3 seconds and the game crashes, and then vista tells me Data Execution Prevention stopped the program running. i thought this was a little odd, so i went into the Data Execution Prevention Control panel and added the eve.exe and evefile.exe files. eve.exe was added, but evefile.exe said that it must be run in DEP. this is somewhat frustrating as with DEP running this causes the game to crash, but i can't tell it otherwise. any help?

anyone able to help me? surely there must be a few devs running vista with the new engine and such that might be able to shed some light on this?

following this i have disabled DEP in windows vista and am in the queue on sisi to test if this solves my problem.
if you want to re-enable DEP in vista, follow the same instructions but type optin instead of alwaysoff

I'm experiencing the same problem, have tried a few things and can't get it to work.
It only started happening with the new kali build (26811), worked fine in 26098.
I'm running Vista RC2 Build 5744.

as i said in another thread eve tends to crash after caracter selection because of the new voip software included in the game...
i am currently running on (Windows VistaÖ Ultimate (6.0, Build 5600)) and i am running eve perfectly because a dev disabled the voip on my account
if you ask "very nicely" in the #eve-chaos channel on coldfront you "might" get it disabled for you too

I'm running Vista RC1 (build 5600) on my ThinkPad and both the release and the test client are doing fine.
I also installed this build of Vista into my Mac's Bootcamp to try whether EVE is running. It did infact run. Although in the beginning i had some trouble with the graphics driver. I used the one from Microsoft that was delivered with Vista. Yet, this must have been outdated or something. It constantly crashed and relaunched itself. Anyways that didn't cause EVE to crash but just froze it while the driver was launched again. When i got a more recent driver from Intel (yah, it's an integrated graphic card) everything was fine.
Have you ever tried to run the client as an administrator? Maybe there's something bugged with this data execution thingy...

Edited by: Ionstream on 06/11/2006 17:30:15 how did you guys get RC2? :P
i run eve through sockscap and httptunnel as i'm at uni (and this worked before this version of revelations and it still works with TQ.) so i can't run it as an admin.
i have the new test version 2.14.26811.
what's the address for coldfront? i can't remember.

I got RC2 via my msdn subscription;
Is there no other way to disable VOIP? Through an ini or something perhaps? |

sorted. if you have vista and your client is crashing just as you see your ship or just before you would be able to, it's the VoIP on your account on sisi that's causing it. ask in coldfront-#eve-chaos to have it removed. (remember to be polite)

Well, for what it's worth, logging into #eve-chaos was a fun experience. there were good guys there (plug for Nate and company) and good info shared. I ran into Mephysto and humblly asked, as was suggested, to disable my VoIP. The responce (a polite one, rest assured) was that my request is denied as they wish to load test the VoIP portion to see what if any effect it has on the servers. Additionally, although it is a known problem, they are requesting more bug reports to be sent in to aid in finding a good solution to it. As Mephysto said... there is no such thing as too many bug reports. (although he did stress to keep them under 2MB in size) So, with that, I guess we'll all have submit our reports and wait to see if they come up with another patch to fix our problem... or... for those runnig Vista, we can forego the wait and reload XP.

Confirm.. Vista RC2 and crashes when it should shown the station/space after loggin in.
There isn't anything in logserver to hint why and only crashdump that is created is the one sent automatic to Microsoft. |

Just a short question, will this problem be sorted out until the release. Would like to see it sorted out, because I'm running on Vista at the moment. ------------------------------------------- Every winner needs a looser, only idiots need a leader! |

A guy who posted in General Discussion was running Eve on the final version of Windows Vista with no problems. Here is the thread. :)

Like the guy in that forum says, Eve (Release) works fine on Vista.
But we are talking about Revelations here.

Edited by: Pinpisa Jormao on 14/11/2006 19:50:07 By taking a look at the current build and Revelations build, we find following difference:
RTCDLL.dll RTCRES.dll Vxc.dll VxPortManager.dll VxRTCCORE.dll
I suspect "vxc" is the third party voice client software that uses some sort of dll hooking as described in the article linked in my previous message. As seen, VXC is the dll mentioned just before the crash (Exception). I'd say there is some irony in the situation.

as mentioned earlier, the voice software in the Game is the problem. I tested it on my laptop with XP but didn't really liked it, seemed to me quite buggy.
I would like to see the possibility to choose if i want to install the software. At least as long as there are such heavy problems with vista. ------------------------------------------- Every winner needs a looser, only idiots need a leader! |

Tryed EVE on Vista Release (build 6000) with Audigy2 and Nvidia 6800GT. Works fine and smooth after updating video drivers from Microsoft's embedded to newly released Nvidia. ============= Matari Rullz!

My Eve (regular, not kali) runs pretty laggy on Vista with the latest Nvidia drivers (6800GT also). I was thinking maybe the Vista drivers weren't in good shape yet.

I have read this thread, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus or solid answer on Kali/Revelations on Vista.
I have EVE (regular version) running in Vista, and have for a month or two. Rock solid I have to say, no lag or drops to speak of.
But if Kali/Revelations does not run on Vista I would like to get a bit of a head start and get my system up and running with XP again before the patch hits.
Have people been able to run Revelations in Vista?
Thanks

Edited by: BBQ on 23/11/2006 16:42:33 I have Vista RTM and can report
TQ current build... Vista 64 = Yes (infact, very good frame rate)
Kali current build ... Vista 64 = No. DEP error and MS wont allow DEP to be turned off in Vista 64
Vista 32 should support Kali IF DEP is disabled for the evefile.exe file in the bin folder. Vista 64 will never allow you to disable DEP as microsoft want the 64 bit Vista to be secure.
XP64 and current TQ & Kali builds works fine. I suspect the DEP error on Vista 64 is somehow tied into the crashing to desktop at station entry that some people have even under XP. ----

Since Microsoft doesn't yet support it themselves, right?
Since it [Vista] is not even released, figured that would be the case.

I had same problem as most (crashing when logged in) but build 27641 doesn't crash. There was a small 1mb patch just now, dunno whether it was an intentional fix or not but the above build now works on Vista RC2 Build 5744 Ultimate. ___________________________________________ http://www.eve-tutor.com

Possibly because they don't get the full version of Vista until Friday, like all other MSDN subscribers... --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |
