I know lots of people love the new skins, and good for them. But I also know many like me think the new decals feel cheap and lame (personal opinion, everyone is entitled to their own).
I want to see THIS brought back:

Incorporate corp/alliance logo creation similarly so ships can fly political colors and patterns. Turn it into an industry where artists are paid to paint your ship or can create sell-able skins that have more flare than just a NPC color scheme change.

I agree, changes like these would bring in a new aspect to the game where artists would be encouraged to create content. Eve could create a color and paint scheme customization shop that sold player skins to other players for isk. |

Having the ultimate individualized customization is one of the pipe dream ideas that CCP should aspire to. I didn't start playing EVE because I liked the game. I started playing because it had the greatest possibilities, and I would very much like to see that.

While this would most certainly open the door to Hello Kitty Titans, I don't necessarily think that is a bad thing.

Nah, no uploading patterns or textures, just the CCP approved colors and patterns like in the video. Wont stop a corp making their colors white and pink, but Hello Kitty herself will not be making any appearances. |

Yea you'd need to have some form of content control, otherwise you'd end up with a large ship with an equally large phallic object on it. Although, that would probably just give players a reason to shoot that ship even more.
That being said, a Hello Kitty or MLP Titan would still be interesting to see in game.

I am not understanding where this idea of phallic or kitten imagery would come from if the only thing you can do is control color and apply a handful of patterns only put into the game by CCP...just like what you see in the video demonstration CCP themselves made. Granted, I am sure someone could come up with a garish or nausea inducing combination of colors and patterns, but I fail to see how this can lead to hello kitty titans.
Its talk like this I think that puts them off giving us ANY form of customization beyond the most bland and pandering (read current ship skin system) of choices. There will always be a few bad apples who would love to spoil the fun, but I feel CCP could responsibly prevent the vast majority using what they already demonstrated and anything else can be reported like we do with anything that is inappropriate (like racist chat talk or attempts to sell isk for real money).
Lets talk more about how we can make this a valuable asset to the game, how we can use it to help solidarity across coalition fleets, how it can be used for game-play immersion and identity. How it can expand market opportunities and trade. Or help to create confusion and chaos on battlefields or fleets when someone slips in amongst the ranks.
Its not like its anymore taxing on the system than our avatars and portraits to render, those with performance issues can merely uncheck a box to see the default skins built into the client. I dont think that demonstration video is really all that much to ask of CCP to deliver to their loyal and paying pilots. |

Knowing EVE players, I'd rather stick with ship skins. I'm open to the idea of alliance skins for large alliances similar to alliance logo (But size limit should be higher than for Logo) And the players could have that tool to create the skin for their alliance and it then be QA checked.
But I'm sure ingenious players would be able to abuse a custom paint system to create exploits somehow, this is EVE after all. Also Skins keep unique colours rare and meaningful, custom paint jobs allow replicating faction colours too easily. |

i would rather player custom skins at the risk of losing npc skin individuality
however we will never get this now that ccp has started making $ off the ones in game
it was a dream that could have been but then like incarna ccps marketing department came up with another idea

Okay, lets say then that CCP sells a blank skin template for arum, the painter applies the art, and then sells it to the player for isk? Make it a $0.99 item maybe? those things would roll off the shelf in mass quantity like that. Maybe put a block on existing faction combinations (pretend its like a copyright law violation or something).
Thank you, while slightly negative I believe that was a very constructive point brought up that can move this closer to a reality. |

It really would be nice if CCP would let players make their own skins for market. It can just charge it's sales tax on sales transactions to make it's money :) |

I really like this idea of more flexible ship texturing. The most wanted thing with it for at least from my point of view, would be possibility to paint text and/or logos to side of the ship.

CCP has already ruled out any Hello Kitty-esque extravaganzas during the last Fanfest. Thank Jamyl for that.
