Isn't that... against the rules?
And holy ****. $2000?! Some people should stop spending so much time making money IRL and spend it mining Veldspar so they won't have to pay $2000 for a great character.

you're **** right its against the rules. apparently they are trying to get around the EULA by selling the "time spent training" as a service, with the char as a result, even though you are buying the char and transferring it to your account.

Nope.. but it would be ridiculously easy for CCP to figure out who the character is if they cared to.

Report it to Ebay that it is fraudulent.
In order to sell the character the person is trading him to your account via CCP's character transfer.
Therefore, you aren't buying his time. You are buying the service of CCP's transfer. Which has a value of $20 (?).

That was uncalled for. It's his char. EULA notwithstanding, you just destroyed years of work out of envy. I find that reprehensible and stupid.
If someone wants to make 2 grand off of his char, more freakin' power to him. Sorry it steps on your toes to have some noob with more skill points than you out there. I hope it makes your e-peen feel big to have screwed someone over that bad.
Mothmar Friedsquid. Because SWG sucked and EVE doesn't require my entire life.

Umm its a breach of the eula, him trying to sell his account on ebay means that all his work should be destroyed and all records of his existance also

Besides... isn't that... profitable? EvE's been around about 40 months right? maybe longer.. idk exactly when it came up. even if he's been paying since the first month... 15*40 is no where near $2000...
I could understand if he just wanted some compensation or something, but that's a big payoff

"profitable" is kinda the point, otherwise there'd be no desire to ebay anything at all.
As far as I can see he's not screwed much at all. Looks like it's over $3K now.
How is it fraudulent, by the way? This is another common thing out in reality. Especially with consultants in the networking fields, lawyers, etc. They sell their time. You can't tell me it costs $75 for someone to come out and plug a cable back in...but it happens. The EULA says you can transfer characters from one account to another. If he wants to say he's selling his time and the experience he invested in the character, but is giving the character itself away freely...there's no fraud.
Trying to "screw him" by claiming he's a fraud could possibly be taken as libel and defamation per se, also. especially given the rising amount of money he'd potentially lose because of it. You can be sued for that in some places.

hmmm play eve or get 2000 grand worth in real life cash.
So the guy wants to sell his character for rl cash have you thought the guy might be in a tight spot owe rl money to some loneshark or put it towards his family? What he does with it is his business just because its against ccp's rules doesnt make it illigal to sell it on ebay.
Dont you have anything else better to do with your life other than screwing with others.

Why are you trolling ebay..Eve characters... in the first place... fancy yourself a new character and dont wish to do it 'in-game' or was you searching for a new ship!
Next time, dont be a ****.. just petition it.. not name and shame when your not privy to all the information at hand.

Fraudulent is ebays term. Not mine.
If you report the link, you are given dropdown boxes of "Why you are reporting". The one this applies to is under fraudulent auctions as it is not selling anything, it is sending you to another service (CCP Character transfer).
That's why I said to report it as fraudulent.

Gindar why are you promoting Ebay sales by linking an Eve auction on the Eve forums? Are you trying to get someone a little more cash for their auction? If you read the Eula links like you have in your post are also in violation and hopefully action is taken against you. |

well .. one thing ..
how can you sell time so that it's not a fraud on e-bay??
i always thought the using rights of an account are something different than time ...
CCP allows you to use "your" account for a monthly fee. you rent these using right.
so if you sell an account (or a char) for cash you're selling the using rights that CCP granted you to another guy - in fact you're selling something that didn't belong to you.
if you're selling the "time" to babysit - you can do so. but don't forget - you're selling your time - not the using rights of a char/account. so if you want to stay on the safeside of the EULA - you'll break the TOS of e-bay (as you're selling something that can't be sold - the time that has allready passed) ... if you don't want to break the TOS of e-bay you'll break CCP's EULA.
conclusio: don't sell chars/account for cash ___________________

Edited by: Vargrh on 14/11/2006 03:45:23 No one is harmed by character sales, the new player will continue to pay a subscription fee to CCP, it doesnt 'skew' the ingame economy like farming does, and CCP have made it clear they dont allow account transfers but do accept character transfers between players. All in all, ccp are money up from this because of the transfer fee. The guy/girl gets their money back they spent on a sub, and CCP continues to get a sub from the new player. Why grief the sale? Strikes me as sour grapes as you dont have a 55million 'spare' character of your own to sell. For all you know that guy/girl selling that might be using the money to pay towards college or buy a car so they can get to work etc in real life.
