Okay, now that that mistake is out of the way, lets continue with our regular posting... The Game... ...which you all just lost again.
(Real thread starts here.) Recently(last month or so), I 've had some interesting problems with certain games freezing for ~10 seconds or so, after which the game would fix itself, only to freeze again shortly.. First this started with GunZ, then it spread on to Empire at War demo, then Shattered Galaxy, and lastly it went to Empire at War: Force of Corruption Expansion (The full game, not the demo).
Oddly, the problem seems to have fixed itself for GunZ and the regular Empire at War game, yet remains for EaW: FoC and Shattered Galaxy. Now, if every game had started to freeze, it would most likely be something wrong with my computer, and at least there I'd have some idea where to start looking for the problem. Since the freezing has fixed itself in some games, I'm really quite lost as where to start looking. Anyone ever had something similar happen to themselves/a friend/relative, or at least have an idea what I could do? I like my sig... ~~~Sig Stuffs Here~~~ I highly recommend drunken posting. Oh yeah, you just lost The Game |

You have a Harddrive +2. It has +10% chance to freeze, +5% to Critical Stike and +25% to Magical Find.
Sorry I ahve no idea, I just wanted to be funny.

Do you have freezing problems outside of games (eg. when browsing the web or typing a document)? If it's just games that are having this...first thing is try to turn the GFX settings down if they're high, turn AntiAliasing and Anisotropic filtering off and drop the screen res down a notch. If that doesn't help, try updating to the latest drivers, or alternatively, rolling back to a previous driver. If it was limited to one game I'd suggest try uninstalling/reinstalling it, but if it's all or most of them the cause is elsewhere.
Basically something is tripping over itself and information isn't flowing smoothly, it's interrupted because something isn't running as it should. Do you have a way to see what temperature your CPU is running at? It could be that it's overheating and "throttling" to try and combat this (are you overclocking it? If so, you can try turning it down temporarily). It's possible that the machine's RAM has a fault, you can test that with a memtest type program (google from free RAM testing or something), though that's unlikely. Lastly there may be bad sectors on your hard drive, or a dodgy read head, but that's very, very unlikely. You can also try turning GFX acceleration down and/or reinstalling DirectX (google about for how to do that, sites like guru3d.com have unofficial utilities to do stuff like that, use with extreme caution!). -------------

There is also the possibility of your graphics card giving out, either getting to hot, or the VGA ram dumping out on you, which could cause the freezing. The HDD drive is more likley, but the possibilities are pretty much limited to RAM, HDD or VGA.
