The Story of Earth and It's Role in Eve Online If we ever get to the point where we can return to Earth, the original planet in which player's ancestors come from, we wouldn't know what to suspect or find. In my eyes we will find an civilization far more advance than New Eden's, all the lost technology and Knowledge hasn't been lost by Earth's Inhabitants. More likely they expanded on their knowledge and grew to become an civilization that exceeds Eve's current civilization status. Of course if New Eden ever re-establishes contact with Milky Way, there the Rogue A.I. will more likely seize on this and take over technologies from the Milky way, thus creating a new war where Milky Way is in danger.
Either way, I think if New Eden's storyline ever advances to the point we return to Earth, we will be faced with new and exciting technology. It would dramatically reshape New Eden as a whole since the technology would also extend into this frontier. Milky Way's faction would probably mimic real life's United Nations, where multiple nations spread across the galaxy will be united under a single banner or they could be in a interstellar war against each other in the milky way without the threat of Rogue A.I. hanging over their head like New Eden has. New Eden's factions would more than likely unite under a single banner in effort to aid the Milky Way or be thrust into a three way war with Milky Way vs. New Eden vs. Rogue A.I. because Earth will blame New Eden for their crisis.
This would make for an exciting story-line if it ever reaches this point. High Advanced Artificial Intelligence bent on destruction of both Milky Way and New Eden, leading to new technology that can be incorporated into the ships. I can see the Milky Way becoming their own faction with their own unique technology and skills that would set them apart, over time these technology will be incorporated into New Eden's ships, changing the way warfare is fought. Unlike New Eden though, I can see the Milky Way will probably be much larger than New Eden with unexplored territory which could make up the new Null Sectors. Pirates will be a universal thing, meaning Milky Way will have their own lawless areas of space where pirates spring up and take advantage of this.
Of course we could end up finding out that the Milky Way is dead and all there is left is relics of the Milky Way's past which will still be more advance than New Eden.

When they do finally re-establish contact with a Milky way, they will no doubt remark on just how small they have become.

I thought we'd just about totally forgotten about the Milky Way and Earth.
We might make contact I guess, but to us it'd be like the first time, not like recognising earth as our ancestral home or anything.
I'm not huge on lore knowledge though so could be very wrong.

3. Mankind is one of the secret voices that's already been dicking around with New Eden for some time, e.g. the Force that sterilized the Jove or the one that opened the wormholes.
4. Mankind is the Sleepers, and the wormholes are the eve gate reopening without us realizing what's going on. When they wake up they'll casually kick us around a bit before getting bored and transcending in a different direction. |

A sci fi writer's dream. Perhaps, from another galaxy (of which there are many) an advanced species has millenia ago found the Milky Way, and conquered it; enslaving "our" ancestors, or even exterminating them as an infestation preventing the healthy promotion of their own species on this new found ground - as it were. Perhaps not a scintilla of "us" remains in any form - not even living memory. Why would vermin be memorialized?
I've always found it odd that people assume "advanced way beyond us" can happen without the required passage of time. Time passes the same for us all. One race, or civilization doesn't get a time warp to advance leaps and bounds beyond the rest. Physics seems to apply the same across the board, so the "real" hurtles advancement faces are the same for us all. There's never a hint as to how this hyper-advancement could have occurred - the starting gun going off for all life forms at the same time.
BANG!! <--- big bang.
Perhaps New Eden's unbridled sociopathy defies the rules of organized society and allows for actual advancement, letting the Great Clone ME-my become so powerful that they'd at least be on a par with a civilization more fundamentally attuned to the facts of reality (which most certainly would have advanced) and could present a real challenge to them. Though, the odds are against that, and I wouldn't give you spit for a chance if there was still a Vegas.
Perhaps inflated ego is all it really takes in the end. That, and rueful disregard. Bang! Bang! (After all.)
Then we'd really have a chance! (Chance at what? Oh yes. If we find them, of course we'll try to kill them.)

If you are speaking about Edens lost ancestors on earth, it depends wether they had a dark age similar to the one in New Eden too. If not is it quite possible that they are far more advanced. But this is of course all speculation because uncountless diffrent things could have happend. |

To me I rather find out that Milky Way inhabitants were destroyed, left on their planets is clues and mystery what happen which lead up to an highly advance enemy we would have to face. Of course when we gain access to milky way, we would regain technology lost to us players. Over time we would reverse engineer, bringing new ships/equipment/technology/skills to the game that needs it. One that would rock Eve Universe. |

The Amarrians used a Terran jump drive to make their "Super Weapon" that destroyed the Minmatar elder fleet. You can infer from this that Terran tech was ALREADY much more advanced than New Eden is currently at the time the EVE Gate was open.
If they are still around, they would be less recognizable to us as human than the Drifters are.

This is one of the great mysteries I never want solved. It's incredible just speculating what may have happened and Otso Bakarti was correct in saying it was a "sci-fi writer's dream".
Personally, I wonder if the Milky Way survived at all or have been replaced by some form of AI technology or Sansha imitator. The original intro video heavily implies that mankind was locked in near eternal military conflict and war once the entire galaxy was settled. New Eden was so important and gave mankind that lifeline it needed.
With the gate collapsed, it's very likely they returned to their old ways of conflict and strife. Drones rose to sentience here in New Eden. If they did in the Milky Way, were they under control?

Yeah the old intro was IMO pretty clear on that the humanity of that time was heading in to deep trouble as they had colonized the entire galaxy (and still needed more, greedy bastards) and were about to turn on themselves until they found the New Eden Wormhole. With the gate closed - and in fact somewhat depending on how it closed - the old humans likely descended back in to chaos and civil war. My vision for what happened to the Milky Way is that they have mostly warred themselves to the stone age by now, with perhaps some isolated pockets of humanity still having some advanced technology, which are regarded priceless relics much like in WH40K. |

As any civilization keen to survive by consuming must consume and then either fall or consume more and then fall. Civilizations keen to survive on philosophy and wisdom can be eternal. Terran civilizations could became a worlds of libraries writen on crystal pages on the walls of their stone citadels, build by man, not by engines.

Absolutely nothing.(That's not even taking into effect the damage caused to the other side by the collapse of the wormhole.) Whatever was left of mankind consumed everything before they died out, probably even destroyed anything of relative use technology wise for salvage. Why? It was part of the reason why the EVE Gate was such a heaven sent in the first place.
They needed what they didn't have.
