Edited by: JP Moregain on 10/11/2006 20:11:28 I have a problem in which when I run EVE, the program often just closes (crahses?) to desktop when either I am leaving a station or jumping gates (apparently when some kind of handoff is being done between the different eve servers.)
The problem almost completely disppears (happens maybe 1x a day instead of 5-15 times a day) when I am running two accounts on this machine simultaneously.
Any ideas?
I dont like to HAVE to have both of my accounts running on the same machine all of the time in order to have a semblance of stability.
As a side note, this problem (clients crash to desktop) does not occur at all with my laptop, so it would appear to have nothing to do with connection problems.

I had a lot of disconnects until I tried a tip I found on the forums, I have a wireless router and seems it goes to sleep if there is no activity (Eve uses very little bandwidth) the tip was to run this from the "Start" "run" command box ping 87.237.38.200 -t it pings the game server and seemed to work in my case, get much fewer disconnects now. also shows the state of the connection and if the server is up.

Or even better just ping the address of your wireless router. (If you've got a static IP ping the external address of your AP, if you've got a dynamic IP either change it each time or use a dynamic dns server)

I don't think the issue is user connectivity related. Just every now and then the game will crash straight to the desktop. A disconnect takes you back to the logon. But this is total client shutdown. I have had this problem exactly as been posted. Sometimes when leaving a station or initiating a jump the game simply quits. Its a minor annoyance. I don't play everyday so I can't give an accurate gauge of how often it happens. But it deffinately does happen.

The above poster is correct, this is not a disconnect (in the sense that the game notifies you and drops back to login) but rather a CTD with no messages at all, just all of the sudden the game is gone... It just occurs at points in time when you might expect some kind of disconnect error (leaving station, gate jumping...)
I have only had a game disconnect (drops to login and says you were disconnected) 1x when it wasn't an eve server crash, this is not really a problem for me.
Since it occurs less often when 2 clients are running off of one machine, it seems to imply that there is some timout on my router or something, but then again it doesnt occur with my laptop at all even with only a single client running...

im not sure on this , but my wireless router never dropped either , this could be due that a laptop being used wireless has to keep the conectin at all times otherwise it comes up with no connection thus imo that means a laptop is always sending info to the router to keep the connetion going
idea u could try is to incress the timeout of your router to the max it will go
9999mins < about 5days :P

Running 2 clients off the same folder/.exe had been known to be unstable. Are you guys running 2 acc's off one client i.e. click the shortcut on desktop twice?
I run 2 acc's at once and for max stability I found copying the entire eve directory to another, new directory then placing shortcuts on the desktop for each seperate installation of eve works just fine.
I'm not claiming to be an expert, but this sounds like a memory problem i.e. 2 clients trying to write to the same chunk of memory and failing in the process which results in both clients going CTD with no usual eve re-poppup as usual on a random disconnect.
My thoughts anyway
