Hi,
I'm returning to the game this week and want to give faction warfare (missions and PvP) a bash.
Not sure what side to pick yet, though last time I heard I think there was only one side!
Just to ensure I get all my sheeeet together correctly, can someone please advise me where the main staging grounds are now-a-days and if I am able to trade in LP there or if I need to head to a hub?
Thanks

Hey,
Thanks for the reply. As much as I'd love to do some SOV stuff at some point I need to build an ISK bank first.
Opening question still stands if anyone can assist.

You may have better luck in the Warfare and Tactics subforum. General Discussions is for trolling only, preferably with multiple alts. |

You will need a trade hub to cash in your LP, there is at least 1 for each faction and if needed there is always Jita (with a neutral alt if appropriate)
Basic summary of each factions situation based on my very limited knowledge (my opinion only not looking to start an argument):
Amarr - mostly asleep except for their veteran high SP group who are frustratingly capable.
Caldari - seem to be doing better, but still getting stomped on by Gal Mil, frustrated that half their members are Jita station campers.
Gallente - still regarded as 'the best' militia but caught in a bit of limbo between being able to stomp on Caldari Militia and finding the pirate superpowers a little too tough.
Minmatar - recovering from a complete warzone wipeout and desertion by most of their veterans. Still trying to fill the vacuum left by so many corps/veterans leaving and training up the new recruits.
As you can see each militia has different challenges and opportunities, hopefully you'll find you'll stay around because FW is fun, not just an ISK printing machine!

Barrak, if you wonders why no one answered your question yet ("where I can sit on a button with all my warp core stab and still get the best money?") you should realise, that no real PvP FW pilots likes farmers. You are planning to ruin prices for their LP without doing much efford or losing ship. Another point is that FW ia the last remaning echo of game story line. You will find role playing persons in here and you picking side on the LP basis is very much of coward in their eyes.
Now back to your original question: at the moment you can see everyone and their russian grandma farming minmatar LP. Farming so hard, that there is a number of amarr systems, regulary getting into vuln. state but never switched side. For a good reason.
No idea what is going on Cal / Gal zone, but they still have like 30 % more players, than amarr or minmatar. I guess there is also good reason for that.

Again thanks for the replies.
My previous comment around build an ISK bank was something way off in the future. I currently live in a Wormhole and can run C5's daily as a team or C4's solo but I want to do something different.
I got over 100m in Combat SP (I appreciate that nowadays this inst impressive) in Barrak here, I didn't do that to.... how did you put it.... "sit on a button"..... don't even know what that means.
I tend to play fairly solo when PvP'ing so I like a lot of options thus one of the weaker factions is more suitable. Joing FW isn't about grinding ISK.... though if I can come by it then great. I have better options for that.
The query around who should I join is based around my explanation above. It's boring being on the strongest team + I don't want to have to lug half my gear around half the map (lazy? yeah... probably a little).
I understand the concerns and don't wish to appear aggressively defensive, but there is surprisingly little out there about FW.
Can someone please advise me as to which are the major hubs for each faction? I think I recall Minnies being Hek?!?!

Minmatar are Hek and Rens depending where you are in the WZ. There are also various militia staging systems/stations where enterprising marketeers can make isk putting up sell orders in the right places.
If you are looking for the underdogs then you either want Caldari or Minmatar. Frankly Minmatar need more high sp pilots atm (100 million sp is a lot in FW) so I'm sure you'd be welcome.
The Cal/Gal war zone tends to be more active though.
If you do join I recommend you join a militia corporation - FW is a fun community. If you join Minmatar there are lots of good groups and I won't risk controversy by recommending some and not others!
If you join Gallente I would recommend Spaceship Beebop alliance, Amarr - Multicultural F1 Brigade, Caldari - Templis CALSF.
There are a couple of articles on EN24 giving a bit of a rundown on the Amarr/Minni war zone in recent months. Also Faction Warfare.com has gone inactive but has plenty of historic info. |

Something tells me, that regardless to which militia you join, you will face mostly pirates, if you are going to get solo fun. Every time I fly into PLEX solo I get hunted by pirates in faction or T2 ships. Average time till pirats shows up is about 2-3 minutes in minmatar space. But it is probably also because I mainly fly around Gulmorogod and my killboard is awefull... |

Hey.
Thanks.
Out of curiosity, and I only ask this as Role Playing was referenced earlier, do pilots tend to stick to their faction ships or do they simply fly whatever they want?

Funny thing is, that some of us actually do tend to avoid ships of opposing faction. Like me hating squids ships but love amarr, though I am Gallente in Minmatar corp. Active members in my corp are minmatar and they did once told me they hate amarr ships but I often see them flying caldari frigates. But this color is so minor, that I am sure most of FW pilots just fly what they want and find suitable. |

Some die hards only fly their factions ships but those guys are rare.
Even if you join a roleplaying group then you always have the excuse of 'these ships were captured on a raid' or some such excuse for flying opposing faction ships. Most roleplay groups simply encourage roleplay - it is a rare corporation that make it mandatory. |

Once I asked what kind of ewar my FW minmatar fleet prefers - dumps or disruptors. They answered - ECM. So no problem here ;)) |

Most people pick the closest NPC corp station to Jita, cash in their LP there and then Red-Frog it to Jita. For Gallente, Caslemon is the closet to Jita so you would cash out all your LP items there, create Red-Frog courier contracts to Jita 4-4, then sell in Jita.

If you are looking for a busy warzone you want Gal/Cal.
If you want it slower then Minm/Amarr.
In Gallente militia you will probably want to apply to BLFOX and if you get in come live where we do. We're semi-nomadic (Marauders), but we assist with moving if/when we move/deploy.
If you want to join Caldari I hope you die in a fire! Really though, just talk to the Caldari corps and join one that lives in the WZ and will defend their home system, that doesn't give you too many options. |

For Gallente the two main hubs are Vlillirier (Spaceship Bebop/Villore Accords) and Fliet (Aideron Robotics). Nennamaila was a former major hub but was degraded by massive sustained pirate activity.
Most alliances/Corps have smaller satellite hubs. Fortress Eha is a small hub in Northern Black Rise, while Nennamaila and Hallanen are the southern satellites.
LP redemption stations are within a handful of jumps from all of these. |

Yes, because you guys need one more griffin pilot.
Anyway, OP, if you want some good ole shoot-something-in-the-face fun, you can't go wrong with the Templis guys for Caldari or RDRAW. We spend just about every TZ shooting each other in the face, GFing, smacktalking in local and then rinsing and repeating.
If you have a hard-on for Mumble, Aideron has their weekly fleet that can be fun too.
And, this thread has plenty of representation from the galmil guys up north. They're downright swell fellers too. |
