Originally by: Lisento Slaven As it stands right now, stations are the ultimate safespots. You can never kill them. They are safe and can continue to do things in the game (buy things, trade with other people including alts, communicate enemy positions etc.). I would enjoy some kind of way to get people out of stations at the least =P
Pretty sure people can do all that now... it's called docking in a station. ---------------

I like this idea a lot! this is the 1st step for planetary landing and interaction, where we'll be able to explore planets, create planetary structures, vehicules, and other stuff like that, planetary battles will be awesome too!
But they need to start somewhere, station walking sounds like a good start!

However, I do see some good coming from it, mostly black market trading. Meet somebody in person in the dark corner of some bar to buy, sell, and trade your contraband. But as far as sitting around and 'drinking' in bar, and 'dancing'? Are you people serious? Give me a break.
This would attract more players, and different types of players. How are either of those things bad?
I doubt seriously that many of the current playerbase would spend much time doing this after the initial novelty wore off. Very little would change after that period other than new people joining the game because the game would have more features that would suit their tastes.
I dunno, maybe I'm just unaware of the downside to a larger more diverse playerbase.

The big problem with combat in stations is this: what happens if you die? You're no in your pod, so you can't go to your clone.
I'm all about walking around, social interaction, etc, I think that will be fun. -- The universe is governed by the aggressive use of force. Hows this for a little note! Oh, and YARRRRR!! - Petwraith I prefer the term RAWR - Xorus |

Edited by: Edward Drakiel on 12/11/2006 20:02:38 About death outside of the pod...as an assumption, let's just say when you leave the pod, that was your last backup.
That said, that backup is a good reason to not spend days on end outside of it....thus incentive to go outside and get some fresh vacuum.
So if you die, it should be safe to assume your clone will be you as of the time you decided to exit the pod. No real harm other than a few hours of training lost and some implants. Well and oh well, such are the risks of leaving bed in the morning.
Of course this could be completely wrong....no point in ranting about something that we know so little about yet. Let's see how this unfolds, and give feedback as needed.
edit: and it might be cool sometime to just kickback at a station window and watch things go by sometime.

Why do you want more players when the server already suffers from player/fleet loads that create crashes and lag? Not to mention we already have login and jumpgate queues.

If they're running around in station, they can't lag up your fleet battle...

Depends,
I would *LOVE* this if it was more of a representation of your actively selected functions. If there were a screen of my character interacting with the hangar which was a dynamic environment, it could be cool.
As well, I would absolutely *HATE* it if it were anything like the a-typical WASD control system. That would be VERY VERY bad.

My guess is it would actually help this. With a seperate code base for the Avater interaction system means that it would more and likely be handed off to dedicated nodes that with the small exception of normal DB queries for the market and such, would completely remove the player from the system server till the hand off for you return to your ship to leave station.
Not to mention lag has improved with the latest server hardware additions and Kali 1 is adding more code optimizations(gang update reductions at least) plus the remainder of the hardware order most likely will help significantly.
Do I expect that it will be a relatively fluffy addition at he start yes. But it will be something to expand upon.
I'd expect planatery interaction to be similiar with the base being put in and then added onto.

DO NOT INTRODUCE NEW STUFF WITHOUT FIRST FIXING ALL THE ALREADY IN-GAME CRAP THAT IS BROKEN.
Sorry for the caps, but this just further exemplifies CCP's lack of customer care :/ I would rather kali have been delayed while they fix
1) force recons 2) mobile labs 3) expander i/shield boost amp 1 bpo 4) exploitable lag bombs 5) etc etc.
there is so much that is broken in this game. For someone who has played it with 2 accounts for 3 + years it makes me wonder WHY I've spent money on this game when the people that make it so obviously don't care very much about folks that are already playing the game.

Two words.
Not interested. How this could possibly tie in to helping eve I dont know, and TBH I dont care. Add planetary interaction or those systemwide belts youve wanted for three years now, or the comets.
But please, scrap this.

This sounds great. One problem I see is that many stations will appear empty and so it could be somewhat awkward to wander around inside an empty structure. I'm interested in the role NPCs will play in this sort of scenario. Perhaps when your character logs off in a station it becomes an NPC?
He wanders about/sits in a bar/sleeps/exercises/reads etc...
Heck, throw in a game of cards and we can sit at tables. Perhaps we could end up seeing player casinos.
If done properly this could be absolutely incredible.
Thumbs up!

Why not park your tempest next to the station and put some holes in the entire bar?

I dont want to be walking around in stations...i want to get in, do what i need to do and get out. I really dont want to watch some sad alt butt dance around whilst goonswarm stand infront of the docking door to stop ppl returning to their ships. After all if this is to make the game more "immersive" then I cant walk through them...or attack them!
Fanfest was great..im still totally ruining mentally and personally think this idea is toilet. But there ya go.

It sounds...interesting, but a little out of place. It wouldn't feel like EVE. Maybe if they didn't go very far with it, like FPS style combat...maybe when you dock in station you could be sitting in a room looking out a window at your ship or something? If you open your items/ship hangar your character picks up some kind of PDA thing and looks at it for example, or if you wanna change fittings on your ship it zooms out of the room to the ship in station like it is now?

Not sure about avatar combat but other things might be nifty. Meetings/production etc etc. I'd hope though that people could conduct their business without having to enter the station as a character.
I can see it attracting more people to the game even it it isn't to all the current players liking.

From what I saw on Eve TV, this is aimed purely at bringing more of the ladies into Eve.
Whilst an admirable aim, I'm not sure what allowing us to walk around stations would actually achieve.
I'd much rather they spent the man hours on useful stuff like the long promised features and a dynamic interactive storyline.
Nice graphics etc may well bring more people into the game, but they won't stay for long if the rest of the game doesn't have proper interactivity.
