I don't know if the cruc would cut it, low PG and fragile armor. What about a tormentor for a "T1 electronic attack frigate"?
I don't understand the issue people seem to believe in inflation due to mission runners and ratting...
Without missions and rats, isk wouldn't exist in Eve. All trading, selling T2 stuff, and buying ore, all of it depends on isk generated elsewhere.

The crucifier is a good ship, it just doesn't have very much tank or damage, but it has it's own role, you just gotta play to it's strengths, make sure you utilize the tracking disruptor bonus. The crucifier probably works best in a gang or with a friend because of it's low damage but I've gotten some good solo kills with it too.
I mostly just fly laser ships, but shout out to the dragoon and the arbitrator. Spend some time in EFT, figure out what you wanna do . crucifier, dragoon, and arbitrator would all be good for a sentinel-type role, like tracking disrupting, energy draining and armor tanking, and drones. the arbitrator would be a good one to play with because it's pretty cheap since it's just a tech one cruiser, and it still can get a decent amount of tank and damage output. I know I've used arbitrators well before, just not recently because I'm more into the laser boats.

I've been going through EFT and that looks like what I might be doing.

which role of the sentinel are you trying to fulfill in a t1 frig?
I feel like the neut range bonus with the TD bonus and some drones is kinda hard to squeeze on a t1 frig.

The neut boat part. Figured it might be a fun role.

Malice for neuts, its neut range bonus and beeing a t1 hull make this by far the best t1 ship for that role.
In all seriousness though, it very much depends on what you want to fly, only a few ships have bonused neuts and som eof them are crap (cruor). If you want to solo with drones and neuts, tristan or dragoon or even the algos are all capable of that, as is the worm. If you want anti tackle for your gang in form of neuts (which the sentinel is) there sadly is nothing t1 that does that as only t2 stuff gets a neut range bonus, howewer a armor tanked td + neut arbitrator is probably your closest bet for that if you can life without sentinel mobility.
A crucifier can be amazing though, it is a better td boat then the sentinel (same bonus, but also gets a range one)

This ship can sit at 150km (168 with a all V character in fleet) and td 3 ships, or 1 ship super hard , if you and your friends for example are fighting a machariel that is kiting you, with its 6.6+73km barrage range is not totally useless, if you heat its new range is 0.4+4.9, meaning it does 0 dps outside of scram range, so it either gets tackled or is rendered pointless. You can on your own take 3 omen navy issues out of a fight. Or your friend is tackled by a annoying 10mn svipul, well stick the tds on it from 150km away and its range is 0.1+0.4km meaning if your friends is at 1km he takes 0 damage or you can totally ruin his tacking. Now if you have info links this gets even more absurd, a rail naga with 318+46km optimal vs yoru 3 heated, linked tds now has a 7+1 range. |

I presume that throwaway costs are a significant factor - the Sentinal isn't exactly large and cubersome in the first place.
I haven't checked the prices recently but IIRC the EAFs were fairly cheap anyway, and the skill requirements aren't huge... Perhaps the mini-sentinal you're after is, in fact, the Sentinal...
None of the T1 frigates really do the job, the only possible exception is the Tristan... I would suggest that the Cruor can work quite nicely though, less rapidly than some of the others but with considerably more sustain as you're using Nos to run your Neut. |

I know for TDs the crucifier does the job.
My theory so far is that in order to accomplish neut/nos role like a sentinel, given the severely reduced range compared to the sentinel, it has to be fast in order to stay in range, but also pretty tanky, have decent pg. That's either Tristan or Punisher at this point it looks like.

punisher probably doesn't have enough mid slots for the job unless you have someone who web/scrams for you and you reduce your role to cap warfare only. Staying close to the target will be tricky otherwise.
how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

What's your reasoning for not using the Crucifier in the first place? Is it strictly lack of tank or are there other factors as well? |

Crucifier isn't too bad as a sentinel replacement, you'll have to operate in scram/web range in order to get the neuts to work but you can fit an AB for some speed tank action and get a passable tank on it.
However it is not at all representation of how a Sentinel flies, the main thing about the Sentinel is the long range neuts, being able to neut to long point range makes it a potent kiter as well as great support since it has alot of options to disengage. |

Either use the Crucifier for TD, as intended, or use a Dragoon for pocket-neuting. As the other posters have said, you could fit any frig with neuts, but their short range and meager tanks/DPS won't make your presence fantastic just because you can neut a bit.
If your composition desperately needs a dedicated neut frigate (and not a dragoon), and you don't want to ball hard and use a Cruor, I'd revise the general idea, because it's not gonna work wonders.

OP, there is no T1 sentinel. Just fly a sentinel. They're cheaper than AF's and aren't a terribly long train.
Just remember that there's a special circle of hell reserved for sentinel pilots, right above the one for people who try to get solo fights in worms. |
