Hi guys,
I've taken the habit to wanna train "Mastery IV" before flying a new ship... I realize it might be stupid cause, of course, it's wayyy to long.
Question is, do you use "ISIS Mastery" for skillplans ? Are they really relevant ? When do you use a new ship ?
For exemple, i could quickly fly a statios but with poor drones and T1 turrets... And i've no other cruiser available at the moment. Does it worth it ?
Thanks a lot |

depends on the ship.
If you're not in newbie territory, i wouldn't fly a hull unless i have the hull skill (example, amarr cruiser) at IV and t2 weapon system. If it's drone boeat, i wouldn't fly it without t2 drones and drone support skills at IV.
Exceptions apply, some ships are just terrible without the proper skill to V (lots of facion stuff get huge bonuses per level, so the difference between IV and V can be quite massive), and some can do without t2 weapon systems (say, a nado, for the general use meta guns will work)
T3s i wouldn't fly without offensive, defensive, engeneering subs to V (or other subs depending on hull/use).
That said, ISIS mastery is non sense, you get a lot of stuff you absolutely don't need for that hull. Example, trajectory analisys on laser boats. Why would i care about fall off.
Specifically, a Stratios with poor drone skills is a complete waste, t1 guns not so much, you can slap neuts on those highs, and i really wouldn't fly a shiny with real good skills |

I never use these masteries stuff. Before, we didn't have it, and we were thinking instead of following a stupid list. As for when to change your ship : when you change your activity. Else, better fly a cheaper ship that you can lose often without pain and try training the skills you need by analysing by yourself what why when until which level etc. Avoid the "spaceship command" skills as much as possible ;)

I've never personally paid any attention to the ISIS mastery stuff. It looks useful if a bit convoluted. Some of the skills it wants you to train to have a 'perfect' ship is a bit silly. Can't think of any off the top of my head though, I seem to remember have BS Mastery at 3 just because a certain drone skill was at lvl 4 or something.
Regardless, if you WANT to min/max your ship it certainly helps but depending on where and how you fly it not necessary. Just make sure your support skills are good and you can skimp on some of the ISIS stuff and get away with it.
THAT or I'm completely wrong and have just been really lucky for the past 2 years. =P

I've taken a look at them when they where introduced, they are not really a useful guide. I found out I was flying a SNI at mastery I because I didn't have certain drone skills.
these masteries only tell you how high your skill is, not how important the skill for the ship. |

There are still a number of Mastery requirements which are... shall we say slightly excessive...
Although I actually have them for other things the drone specialisations are one of the major ones - or the Sensor Compensation skills on Marauders... They're immune to EWar in Bastion!
What you will actually benefit from training is often different to what the Masteries require; particularly if your ship is tailored to a specific use. They aren't a bad guide but neither are they iron-clad - don't fetter yourself too much with arbitrary rules. |

I don't know if I have any ship to Mastery IV because once you get past Mastery III there are usually a lot of skills included that I don't care about for how I use the ship.
The only thing I might wait on are the skills that provide the hull bonuses for the ship to level 3 or 4.
Nothing wrong with wanting to perfect your favorite ships. But since you asked the question I suspect you're missing out on some fun or utility in the meanwhile.

Yeah, that's exactly my point, i was somehow stucked in the same activity while i got to train for another ship. Anyway, thanks for your answer all |
