Hi, I have a top of the line fiber internet, top-end alientware desktop, drivers all up to date. I have a wifi connection from my PC to the internet box 2 feet away.
my issue is random disconnects from eve client, even though internet itself is stable - youtube keeps streaming, teamspeak still up, wifi stable etc. In other words, i see no reason why client should disconnect.
I have to relog when it happens.
What could be reasons for this?
I did not have this issue before. Started when i switched from cable to fiberoptics as far as I can tell.
But other games that require a connection do not do this. Every MMORG except EVE plays fine, but EVE disconnects once every 30 minutes randomly.
Any ideas? |

Okay, now that is surreal. An Eve buddy of mine is suffering the same 30 minute disconnect as well, it effects Eve only, not any other internet activity at the time. He lives in Columbia, so I wouldn't know which ISPs are in his area!
He's having to call his ISP's tech support to find out what's causing the very selective disconnects that are in the 30 minute timer, he'd recently moved and is using a different company with different hardware.
Since socket closed/disconnects are not receiving the level of attention asked for by players from CCP, perhaps start there for what's going on with the new fiber connection?
A place to start, and the cold comfort of knowing you're not alone in the 30 minute disconnect glitch.

the thing is, sometimes it disconnects and sometimes it doesnt. on bad days, yeah every 30 minutes. on good days - maybe once per night, or none at all even.
I wonder, if there is a log that tracks why client socket closed? |

Can't help much there alas, I'm a computer hardware junkie, not software. Somewhere buried in the CCP folder on the HDD/SSD should be those logs on socket closed/disconnects, though I couldn't begin to point you in the right direction. If it's not a guaranteed 30 minute boot out of the game, then you're another victim of the random disconnect waves that pass through and are still not fixed or directly acknowledged (see older posts in this section of forums!).

*bump. I don't get it every day, but when I do, it is every 5 minutes. The rest of my internet activity is fine. Super weird and annoying; especially when trying to run mining op. I hope someone has found a fix! :D god speed evers |

This started up for me after yesterday's patch after being fine for a couple weeks. Before that was awful for a couple weeks and good before that. Everything else works but eve derps. It seems to go bad after some patches and then magically fixes itself after another.
I've had these periods over the years and these people (ccp) just refuse to acknowledge it. It's never their fault, yet the only thing that has changed is eve has been patched, so CCP pls. I am pretty much on the best connection available in Australia.
I'd be PISSED if I was giving you actual dollars of my own instead of someone else dollars (plex) for this.
Now tell me as you customer to go stfu as usual. |

I am using two accounts. One client disconnects - the other doesn't. Doesn't seems to be an internet connection related issue. I am having a stable vdsl 100MBit/s connection (german Telekom) |

I here U sis. make a ticket, they give you back ships you lost ( 100% ) and it's cool, U get a mail from concord some thing like this: " We have worked our magic and salvaged your ship, it is in hangar X of yours "

Got pretty much the same...
When i am logged in with more than 1 character i will toggle across to next toon come back and 1 has randomly dropped . I then have to reconnect but it will continue to affect that 1 character the hole evening or session , and not drop the other 1 or 2 characters i have logged in at the same time. There seems to be no pattern to this and if was a connection issue on my side surely i would loose connection on all 3 accounts not just the 1 character and am some what baffled by this.
Tried running the eve fix tool had no effect getting to the point i'm having to not do some things due to the risk involved if i disconnect .
Any ideas would be appreciated and as some1 already a Dev Response .
cheers all

1. If you're 2 feet from the router why on earth are you on wifi? 2. Viewing youtube is not a sufficient test for stabilty nor are other games. 3. Eve is much more finicky about packets and lag than most other games. Just because you have xyz superfast internet does not mean you are immune to packet loss.
The problem could be anything from as simple as an intermittent rfi signal causes a brief wifi issue to the way your provider is routing your signal. I would suggest first getting off wifi. Wifi is not for gaming regardless of what anyone says or any tom or joe that tells you theirs works fine. Their pc isn't in the same room, subject to the same interference or likely even operating on the same freq. I had a garbage disposal once that would disconnect mine. After switching to ethernet (or before) I also recommend ready the stickies post regarding socket closures. If neither helps then things get more complicated.

Getting same problem.
Started earlier this week but wasn't too bad. Historically I've not had too much problem with socket disconnects - few and very far between.
Then the last 2 days it's become nuts. Runs fine for hours then I get random disconnects consistently. Sometimes one account, sometimes 2 sometimes all of 'em.
I bypassed my router and bought a new cable modem. Nothing.
No other application seems to be affected... |

Extreeemly good point and TCP/IP so right! to bad I missed it
WiFi is like a button on a web page, no names, but it has a low sec flag on a ship in water that button say " I feel lucky " aka if internet is NOT important to you, use WiFi

This is a pretty old problem and its really random. Sometimes my connection to EVE server is stable for 16h (im AFK a lot), sometimes i get several disconnects in 1 hour.
I guess i depends on the stability of the connection of your client to the server. Every game instance has its own connection and if it goes through bad routers and other network stuff you can get disconnected. |

Same problem here just started after last patch, running 4 toons on a Area51 Desktop all the whistles and bells, wired direct to cable 50mb service..just disconnect the internet. no set pattern. Thought it might be the machine but after several hours of other data intense games it only happens with Eve. Specs

Bump, I'm also having this issue. It's intermittent and has been going on since I changed ISP's a couple of weeks ago. I'm on Comcast in the western US. It might be helpful if you guys also mention your ISPs as that might help narrow down which hop is losing packets like this. Given that a couple of you guys seem to be EU I'd bet it's a link really close to the EVE cluster itself. |

So here's what I'd suggest you guys do.
Go here:
https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Network_Guide?_ga=1.259802890.1242865133.1382920519#Test_your_connection_to_the_TQ_cluster
It's part of the EVE Online wiki. Download pingplotter and start running your own traces while playing the game. Whenever you see a red bar like these or experience a disconnect make sure to take a screenshot.
http://i.imgur.com/955NpMc.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/zfROZjg.png
It'll be interesting to see if all our connections are running through the same routers or not. You should get 100% packet loss before resolving the trace, CCP is blocking the packet type the trace is run using as a security measure so that red bar across the bottom is normal and expected.
Keep in mind you're only running a trace every 2.5 seconds here, it's possible a shorter event that doesn't show up as a trace could cause your TCP connection to be lost . Also every one of these red lines isn't a 100% connection lost, the duration of the disruption has a lot to do with whether you lose connection the EVE or not, and it's difficult to determine how long one of these lasts pinging only every 2.5 seconds. Just keep at it and eventually you'll get one that shows up and you can point to THIS ONE as the exact problem.
It's also important to note that this probably isn't directly CCP's fault, this is a level or two up the internet food chain. CCP MAY be able to complain about poor hardware performance and help us resolve our issues, but maybe not. So run your own tests and hopefully we'll come up with something conclusive to point to. |
