Hello There's one thing i have never understood... well there are tons of things i have never understood, but let's start with this one :
When you PvP, usually, you don't want to wear implants, at least expansive ones, because you have much more risks to get podded and lose them than if you are missioning in high sec or sitting in Jita, right ? So you take a jump clone without implants, or with cheap ones, when you go to PvP, right ? But there is a cooldown of 19-24h between two uses of a jump clone, right ? So if you PvP every evenings, when will you be able to use your clone with expensive implants ? With the cooldown, never, right ? Is a regular PvPer condamned to skill up much slower than a PvEer because he/she cannot use expensive implants ? I have read all what i could find on the topic, but the only conclusion i can come up with is always : why bother with implants at all when you are a regular PvPer (unless you are Rockefeller) ?
How do you guys manage that, or have i missed something ?
Thank you in advance for your explanations and tips :)

Pirate implants give a bonus to your ship and help you skill faster, when youve got high grade slaves/crystals why would you ever want to jump clone, youd just gimp yourself. If you cant afford decent implants then you dont have to worry about jump cloning anyway :P |

Its all down to choices.
When I started out in NullSec I used + 3's for the two attributes most important to the area I was training as they are fairly cheap and have a minimal skill outlay.
In LowSec where I live now its a lot easier to avoid losing your pod as long as you take the appropriate precautions so having a variety of heads for different uses is viable.

There are sets of implants that plug into the 1-5 implant slots, that give bonuses to both your attributes and certain ship stats. The most common being the Slave set (armor hp boost) and the Crystal set (shield rep boost). Nearly everyone uses these sets when pvping as they give significant bosts to your ships and enhance your skill learning. Once you have them the only reason to jump clone is to swap to different sets. |

No, no need to buy them from the pirate LP shop directy. Just buy them in jita.
But don't use them right now. After you done some month of PvP you can form your own opinion if it's worth to pvp with expensive imps or not. Buy then you should know when you lose them (situation, system etc.)
Some people are bad at warping away when they die thus loosing pods very often. Other are very good at it. Some do a lot of brawling pvp in 0.0 where there are bubbles. Some do a lot of kiting pvp and have no problems when flying with snake sets (more speed) Some don't watch local, have no gatespot und constatly die to smartbomb Battleships.
Just pvp with a cheap clone and see for yourself how often you lose a pod
Also if you just have 2x +3 imps they are fairly cheap'ish and go a long way when it comes to training time.

I keep a role-specific JC so once in a blue moon when there is an opportunity to use it the bonus is worth it but for day-to-day PvP it's become easier to just stay naked and take the pod xpress home instead of losing 10-20 minutes warping pod back home every time a ship is lost. For frigs and dessies a lot of T2 rigs are cheap enough that it's worth losing those with the ship over potentially being smartbombed while trying to get home in a pod with implants worth many times more. |

pvpers in nullsec often use empty clones (there are exceptions of course) due to the fact that bubbles reduce your pod survival chance to a minimum. Losing a pod in lowsec is usually your fault however and largely avoidable.
So once you figured out how to warp your pod away in time and also how to not warp it into a smartbomb BS right after you warped it away, you can start using cost effective implants again. I lose maybe 1-2 pods a year and i pvp in low all the time (last pod loss was to a disconnect, unstable inet can definitively be a problem).
how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Pod Survivability in Lowsec: When in a pod - Never warp to the sun at 0, and never warp to a gate at 0.
Create a tab that displays only moons. When you start getting into low structure and know you are going to die, switch to that tab and start spamming warp to one of those moons. |

Added. Align to said celestial and overheat prop mod if applicable. It sometimes works and you keep both your ship and implants.

A clone switch every 19h is good for 2 evenings of PvP in a cheap pod. As a nomadic player reshipping at trade hubs, it's more convenient IMO to PvP without expensive implants, so you can safe a lot of pointless travel time. Yes, it negatively affects your learning speed, and that even more if your are living in Nullsec, where bubbles are standard.

Don't forget the smartbombombing proteus catching up on you and lighting up when you hit that gate ...
Also +3 implants are cheap and if you compare them to the +5 the training time difference really isn't that big.Rather +3 and pvp then +5 and stay docked just to have a few days training time extra on a yearly base.
We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.
