Ok, suppose I'm mining and I want to activate my passive targeter to scan a nearby ship. I coulnd't manage to do that unless I actually stopped mining. The standard procedure for using the passive is the following (correct me if I'm wrong): - have nothing targeted already. - click on the passive targeter module - click on the ship you want to target (e.g: from the overview)
The problem is that if I am mining, I already have an asteroid selected. Therefore as soon as I click the passive targeter it will "use it" on the asteroid, which ain't do anything, and I can't select the target for the passive target module because I need to lock them first, but that would make them aware that I'm targeting them! This really feels like a Catch 22 situation to me.
I looked around for "how to deselect your current target" but I can't really find anything. Any suggestion, or is this just impossible to do? |

It would be nice but it's not possible, AFAIK

Use CTRL SHIFT LEFT_CLICK on any locked-targets to unlock.
Otherwise click on ship, then activate passive targeting module. |

Selected ship/object =/= targeted ship/object. You can see the selected object by default over the overview. I cant check in the client atm, but I think, you should be able to select the ship in the overview, then activate passive targeter on it. |

If you click a ship in your overview ... ... and then a module ... ... the module will blink and wait for a target.

Unless you have something targeted already, like my ice asteroid ;) |

when you are mining and you have the asteroid selected as your target and your mining laser is on your asteroid, simply unlock the target lock on the asteroid ,when you do this you are still mining with no target selected, then select your passive targeter and select your ship and scan him,he will be none the wiser.i hope this helps. |

I love the carebearstare. Doubly so when it's from a Drake. |
